Pretty optimistic

In term of Nasu stuff:
CCC > Mahoyo > FSN > Tsukihime > FHA

Nothing he did is bad but it's not like there is anything great either, he is well in the 8/10 territory.
Though the sequels of Mahoyo could do something pretty nice if they keep the same production values and keep developing the setting/cast, chapter 5 of Mahoyo is probably the best thing Nasu wrote overall, it was awesome

But yeah it's hard to really get into the TM hype when you have access to stuff like Dies Irae or Muramasa

I reread FSN in Japanese one year ago and both Mahoyo and CCC have much better writing, FSN's script is really really unrefined compared to everything he did recently.
And I put CCC first because it really felt like Nasu had a lot of fun writing it and I had a lot of fun reading it (the gameplay part wasn't very good though)

It's true that Mahoyo doesn't have much story and unlike it's previous stuff Nasu doesn't try to do anything really "epic" with it but it's pretty self-contained in its own right and manage to build a mood unlike anything he did before, in term of characterization it's also some of the solid stuff he wrote.

As for Extra itself disliking the setting may be understandable and the game itself isn't much more than a cash cow but CCC did a lot of interesting stuff with the setting and is more like a thematic follow-up to the entire series rather than a cash cow, at least that's how I saw it

Writing encompass more than just prose you know, Nasu got a lot better at pacing and making sure the scenes are relevant too.
If you just care about the barebone story FSN has a "greater" concept sure but that's just for 2004, some titles already did the same but better since.

What does that have to do with the general opinion at large in regards to what people think of these games? I could say that my favorite VN is Tsukihime, but me having played it isn't all of a sudden going to magically make it more well regarded than FSN.

Egs itself is the playground of 2ch users and is countless going through waves of anti-pro wars, stema and artificial hype

Then you have to take into account the time these titles were released and the situations these titles were in at that time.
Dies Irae for example got a lot of anti because people were fed up with the releases and rereleases due to Light incompetence, that has nothing to do with the intrinsic quality of the game itself.
Another famous example would be Asairo, the game itself is fantastic but it got a really low rating in egs because the game marketed itself as having several heroines but ended up having only one with only one real sex scene.

And then you have to consider that the rating themselves don't correlate with each other since they aren't made by the same people, people who rated shit in 2004 aren't necessarily the same people who rate shit in 2010 and they don't have the same vision of things

In FSN's case in 2004 there was nothing really like it and it was hyped to hell and back since 2002 or so with it even appearing in mainstream media at that time, that was before its release, and hype build on hype.
That has nothing to do with quality (not saying FSN is bad by the way)

Only thing out of those you listed that's objectively above presentation is story. The rest just function to set the atmosphere, which is something Mahoyo's presentation does very well. The reason people don't really care for Mahoyo as much is not because of a lack of voices and porn, but because it's so small. It doesn't feel like a complete story like Tsukihime or Fate do. It feels like a glorified prologue, which I guess it is if Nasu really is going to make it a trilogy.
