Dumping the viz translation.
I love Souma's reaction face right there
Fuck man, I love the art in this series.
Didn't they talk about how he never came back after graduation? Doesn't that imply he did graduate?
I think it's more likely that he was only Second Seat because he got distracted by love of a woman and couldn't focus on his cooking
just like Souma will. What are the chances that Alice's mom is actually Souma's mother?
Why does everyone assume that his faceless mom has to be a Nakiri? Can't she just be a non-Japanese Megumi who died of
>Not posting superior colored version
You even trying anon? Step up your game.
I'm sorry i forget there's people who don't know how to read moon
>implying megumi winning is a bad thing
>what with Americanization of the language.
because this is the official american version.
Some of the American-isms are terrible, like the gawd by Alice this chapter and the American title Food Wars!
The American version of Soma's catchphrase (which I can't remember at the moment) is better than "It wasn't much!", though.
megimufags are shit. not megumi. Anyone with a single brain particle could tell lobster was gonna beat megumi
there was as much tension on that match as there was in the Souma vs Giga nigga match, we all knew the results, we just wanted to see how it was going to go down.
>megumifags better than anything in souma threads after the massive shit storms they created during the megumi/kurokiba match
Go back to bed megumifag
>Director is changed to Dean
Why? Why? How can the word Dean ever impose the same image of authority as Director? When's the last time a piece of fiction made the word Dean bad ass? I'm more likely to respect DEEN than Dean.
No it isn't. It isn't much has dualism. Happy to Serve doesn't retain that at all and completely ruins the purpose of Souma's catchphrase to begin with.
Anyone who thinks like you basically doesn't understand the point to begin with, so you think it doesn't make sense. That's your ignorance on the matter, not Casanova fucking up.
"It wasn't much" - the original meaning is meant to be the chef showing his humility which is part of Japanese restaurant culture, yet Souma spins it so he's saying it in a cocky manner like "Nothing to it". There's nothing grammatically wrong on a conversational level once you use the context.
How anyone can go on /a/ and still not know this by chapter 97 is beyond me, but then again dubfags and /v/ are so use to being over localized they probably think Ghost Stories dub was legit to the source material.
Their One Piece translation is good aside from their enforced localization rules, but then again that's because they went out of their way to hire CCC.
I really have to wonder who's doing the rest of the line up, cause there's a massive disparity between them.
The sad thing is due to how Viz localizes it ruins a good portion of CCC's translations. He had a good balance of localizing/direct translation and was helpful on explaining the context of why he chose what he chose, such as Strawhat-ya which was pronounced Mugiwara-ya in the anime. Not weeb enough to go full Ken-sama, yet retains the quirks of each character's mannerisms.
Well, at least she gets it.
It is silly for Kurokiba to not think of pickled fish.
Erina has consistently demonstrated she's at the level the hype puts her at. She's always among the first to notice right away what's what even when she's not tasting it herself.
I don't think Kurokiba's odds are as bad as Hayama's. Still stacked in Souma's favour but at the very least, Kurokiba still wants to beat Souma if only out of disrespect. Hayama's disregarded his competition completely.
Erina = Worst girl
I am sad that Alice has the Mad Dog's Mad D every night, otherwise she could be the best girl for Souma right now.
I guess Souma is a strong independent cook who don't need no girl in Shokugeki.
what's gonna be the order of the dishes presented?
>inb4 last dish tasted is winning dish
I'd say your blind but it's more likely that you're just stupid
Kurokiba is just as arrogant about his odds of winning due to it being about seafood. He just hasn't shown his arrogance as long as Hayama, but the moment the fish market chapter happened he sealed his fate.
No he apparently is one of those people with a fetish for ugly people.
True, I don't know it depends on the chapter. Sometimes I can see bits of sentence structure that resembles PowerManga/MangaRule, but again the localization is still pretty heavy and ruins it in a different way than Niggerstream or Waterpanda.
When they mess up something so blatantly obvious it calls into question what else they've messed up that I simply don't know about, how much I've read that originally meant something completely different.
I'd rather have Niggerstream who have been going to lengths to explain their translations at least having it be accurate and take their awful version of localization with it than reading something that has both shitty localization and can be horribly inaccurate.
In translation inaccuracy is where I draw the line, regardless of if it's a one time event for all I know.
Yeah, I'm gonna waste ten minutes looking for raws with a page where he says it, when you should be able to type it out in a couple of seconds. Or are you saying you don't know how?
The best part is I always see faggots defend Viz and other companies not explaining context because providing explanations in between frames is apparently 'unprofessional' or some bullshit but then Viz does it anyways during the fish market chapter.
And they don't even localize the technique name. All it is, is you sticking a nail into a fish's brain in a very precise manner. Yet they weeb out on that simple technique yet change shit like Fall/Autumn Festival to THE CLASSIC.
How the fuck does that work? We're talking video game level localization.
You think I even remember what it looked like? All that ching chong nip nong moon runes look the same to me I may as well find Waldo and Carmen San Diego while I'm at it.
You can literally just look up chapter 1 raw to find it dumb ass. You can't even remember he used it there?
>MEGUMIFAGS MEGUMIFAGS MEGUMIFAGS
jesus christ people, stop
it's お粗末, a shortened form of the expression お粗末さまでした, an expression of humility typically used when presenting someone with food you made. it more or less literally means "THE FOOD I MADE SUCKS" because japanese politeness is fucking weird and nonsensical
Well, you sure knew a lot about its original meaning, dualism in Souma's speech, use in the Japanese restaurant culture and whatnot despite that.
Whatever, it'll come up again in a few chapters anyway.
Tell me /a/
Is she a contender for the best girl? My dick says she is
It's just another phrase part of their culture to constantly remind themselves not to get big headed stop exaggerating like a retard.
This applies more to China than Japan though, but Japan basically just copied China back in the day and actually went overboard with it. China used it because everyone was a smug pretentious faggot in ancient times.
Yeah because people explain it like >>117802231 what am I gonna do? Be stupid and question them asking for their Japanese test marks or something? People mentioned it, and no one called them out on bullshit so it was obviously true.
No offense, but as a general rule in life, you probably shouldn't be presenting people second-hand information that you can't validate on your own. Because even if it's not an outright bullshit, it can get awkward like that.
What do you mean I can't validate it? I can easily look it up on Google it's just time consuming so I told you to do it yourself. Nothing you say refutes the fact that chapter 1 had the catch phrase and no one should have an excuse of forgetting that unless they are senile.
Moon runes anyone?
You guys are suckers.
Casanova's translations may be closer to the original, but they need to step up the PR before releasing chapters.
What I mean is that they don't localize and thus remain faithful to the original Japanese's tone/word choices, but they have issues with phrasing. They need to proofread the TL because sometimes it sounds really awkward or oddly formal and doesn't flow very well in reading.
>"post an anime character from your country"-threads
>Denmark is a laughing stock
>Now they got the hottest female ever drawn
Are they planning to end the tournament on chapter 100?
I'm not sure three chapters would be enough for a three-way final
I'm from Scandinavia and while I've eaten and cooked a lot of fish, I've never-ever heard of "fermenting" fish. Fish spoils quickly and easily, so it's always cooked and eaten the same day it's caught, or frozen, or at least packed in salt. This is too weird for my kitchen.
>Pickled herring, gravlax, lutfisk
I don't think there's fermentation occurring with these dishes...
These seem to fit the bill, though I've never seen them before.
Gotta love all the asspain from Erina haters , that shit never gets old.
also the amount of faggots shipping alice and souma
which was never a thinghas skyrocketedand they are mad that its been pretty much confirmed that she and kurokiba will end up together , which some how is a bad thing? i really dont get waifufags, so they feel the need to fling shit over at other girls and even at kurokiba.
>Erina is a bitch, she has done nothing to but bitch at souma
>except she gave him a ride in her limo back from the camp
>except she allowed the polar star peeps watch souma's match from her private box
>except she agreed to help him with the beefstew instead of straight up calling security to kick him out
Erina is still a tsun, but some people have a HUGE hate boner going for her thats just silly.
Naikiri master race, Alice=Erina> sasaki > everyone.
i hope we get to see this chapter animated because Erina unzipping that hoody will be glorious, as well as alice walking around in that frilly bikini.
You know aren't waifufags shipping their waifu in any given series like into cuckoldry or NTR? Why on earth would they give a shit if their waifu ends up with anyone? Wouldn't it be better if they don't get a guy?
Well i really dont know how their head works , but for me im usually just happy to see characters i like ending up in good relationships that make sense , force shipping a female character i like with the MC because she HAS to "win" or else its all shit, seems very very retarded.
nah i meant Sakaki , that s slip pass me .
At the very least currycunt won't win, he's been too bloody arrogant about the whole thing and snobs have been constantly fucked over in the manga. Kurokiba or Souma wins. Souma would really need a good drop from his high horse by a fellow student already.
>Souma would really need a good drop from his high horse by a fellow student already.
Erina. Souma will win, he will then challenge her then and there, Erina will rape him and she'll force him to become Hisako for a while.
Best possible outcome.
This guy got himself some high grade meat just like that.
>Souma would really need a good drop from his high horse
what high horse? he is confident but souma has never really been in a high horse, hell he straight up admitted that both kurokiba and spicebro were way ahead of him in terms of choosing what fish to use, so its not like he thinks he is above all his oponents.
add to that the fact that he has actually only won twice, against nikumi and against giganigga , every other challenge he has tied or lost / finished behind some else.
I do agree that spice will loose, he set up a HUGE looser flag before the semifinals with spicecake , i would like Souma to win just to speed up the plot a bit and have him start to challenge the seats which he would be able to do as the winner just because now the seats would not be able to ignore him as just another random student.
Well that one is a weird one, Souma did win and yeah it counts but the theme was so stacked in his favor that it didnt feel like a straight win , the judges even mention that had the theme not been bento then Alice would have won, so the theme did half the job.
dont get me wrong, he did a great job and adapting to the theme IS a big part of being succeful , just pointing out why i sometimes forget to count that match for him... so yeah 3 wins.
the one in the high horse is Spicebro, i didnt mind him being a bit smug before but he really ramped up the assholish "im too cool for this" attitude lately, though that might just be to contrast with Kurokiba, but still... fuck him.
It will probably go
>them all cooking
>next chapter, Kurokiba and Curry present their dishes
>Souma has his dish at the end of the chapter
>reveals it and the chapter is spent in foodgasms and explanations
>results the next chapter
>but the theme was so stacked in his favor that it didnt feel like a straight win
The theme wasn't particularly stacked to his favour, Alice just didn't follow the theme beyond 'it goes in a bento box'. She fucked up and that cost her her win.
Smoke prince is top tier bro, so he deserves it... he deserves both of them.
Glasses has his nerdy groupy that cheered for him.
You're moving goal posts now. The talk was about Kurokiba not recognizing a fermented fish. I said it's no surprise because it's a rare method and I haven't even heard of it myself. Not half of your examples were fermented, further proving the point. That's all.
I know right?
With his fight against Souma he only won by 1 point and that in his turf and only because some idiot judge gave ingrediants too much credit.
Will it happen again?
>Your dish was clearly the best Souma, but the fish you cooked looked like shit, not that it matters anymore but still, 3rd place.
He is a "working class" cook in terms of what he is used to deal with, so bento is something he is used to it , Alice is all SCIENCE and a foreigner so yeah she screwed up big time but it also might have had to do with the fact that she really didn't have any idea what a bento meal meant other than the literal definition of it.
Well she is not a Nakiri , she just married one so its not like its in her genes, now Erina and Alice on the other hand might eventually get to that point.
from the colored pages. She is sexy
>he has actually only won twice, against nikumi and against giganigga , every other challenge he has tied or lost / finished behind some else.
Or you can put it another way: He hasn't lost to anyone except his father.
I thought she might held a grudge against Souma or be biased, I am glad that's not the case.
From her attitude I can conclude that unlike Erina, if it tastes good she'll judge him fairly.
Casanova may have better scans but their translations are pretty awkward. Compare "It wasn't much" to "Happy to serve" for example.
Both "It wasn't much" and "Happy to serve" are terrible translations of the original phrase, but there is no way to convey the original meaning in English without sounding like a betalord
>they get to Kurokiba
>he enters berserk mode
>Satsugai starts playing in the background
That would make me so happy
I think after this tournament we'll have mores specialized battles, like someone challenges Souma in their specialty.
>You may have won the tournament but no one can beat me when cooking X dish
they still need to close out Eizan and his "arc." his threat against Soma seems more and more shallow now, but I'm sure he has something planned still. Also, since he's 'relatively low' at #9, something could happen with him
>Or you can put it another way: He hasn't lost to anyone except his father.
he lost to legumewizard (at least he felt like it was a personal lost even if it was megumi) , he lost to Erina and Hisoko (at least) during the dinner serving challenge, and barely made it in the breakfast one , tied takumi, and "tied" with naked apron senpai who was just playing around , tied kurokiba and came behind spicefag
I doubt we will see much of him now because i doubt Grandpa badass or Doujima will let him fuck around with the finals .
he could be the first souma targets , i dont know if you HAVE to challenge them in order but yeah i want to see more of him specially now that he his plans have been fucked up twice by souma.
I too don't think that Eizan will manage to screw Souma now, but there is one possibility, which is all of them tying in the finals and Eizan stepping in to give a deciding vote, and thus ruining with Souma's chances
>and Eizan stepping in to give a deciding vote
>9th seat giving the deciding vote when the principal, and the alumni with the highest score ever and a incredible reputation are sitting right there.
Doubt it, if anything we might get to see some other of the big wigs like the vice principal or another Naikiri stepping in to break it.
Well maybe Doujima knew of his personal grudge against Souma and did the whole three way final to screw with him.Doujima and Isshiki looked quite shady when they announced the whole three way thing.
>she some how recognizes souma as Saiba's kid imitatively and asks him how his dad is doing
it'd be interesting ...and yeah going by Alice's mom design(just general milf design i know they are not related) then she should be incredibly hot.
>Doujima and Isshiki looked quite shady when they announced the whole three way thing.
Thats just Doujima being Doujima, he is super bro tier and just wants to see the extend of Souma's skills and remember his youth along with saiba.
Anon, just because you dont have normal friends who you enjoy being around with out thinking about them sticking their dicks up your boypussy doesnt mean that the same goes for others , Doujima and Saiba were bros and something happened that drove Saiba out of the spot light and away from their friendship so he just enjoys thinking back about the times when shit was a lot more simple.
At least "It wasn't much" DOES convey the original meaning. "Happy to serve" just makes him another burger flipper at McDonalds.
Anyone who chooses Viz over Casanova for that phrase basically admits they like dubtitles which are worse than secondaries.
You're wrong, he lost to Erina during the 50 meals speed test, however he was faster than Hishoko by a fair margin though it's unclear how much of that margin was used to ask the receptionist for cards.
Takumi was the one who was WAY THE FUCK behind in terms of speed, coming nowhere close to the 3, but Erina was already finished bathing by the time Souma even finished so the gap in that alone is huge.
Are you stupid? The Classic IS the tournament they are doing right now. Viz went full retard and localized Fall/Autumn Festival = The Classic.
This is what you get for supporting jews. You don't even know when you get shit wrong because they just pull new names out their ass.
I could see Marui finally going full Escoffier on somebody for partying in his room, but why would he Shokugeki against Ibusaki? Smoke wouldn't even join the fun if Yuki didn't drag him to the dorm parties.
Car scene, obviously. They'll probably add a scene where Erina thinks Souma reminds her of someone and Papa Yukihira comes to mind, but then she'll be like "Wait wait fuck no, why did I think of him!? They're nothing alike! There's no way Yukihira-kun is like mai hero!"
Speaking of which, does Erina not know Souma's dad's name?
>does Erina not know Souma's dad's name?
We don't know enough about their relationship to tell yet. Although they did get a picture of them taken, so probably. How often do you take a picture alone with someone whose name you don't even know?
Place bets on Erina's reaction when she finds out
>Disbelief --> hardcore denial and fury
>"Baka na! ...but but that would explain why Yukihira-kun is annoyingly good"
>"I do not accept this, you are not worthy of being that man's son!"
>Dere mode activated
I thought I'd cover all the options even if some are unlikely. I figure we'd see a Two-Face stage where she outwardly acts friendly with Souma (say if Joichiro is present) but behind the scenes bicker at him as usual.
Digital colour sucks. Fuck off.
I see you repeating the same shit every other thread. Get your facts straight, anon: Stephen translates One Piece. Has been since the start of ESJ and will be for many years.
CCC has started working as a translator only last year, he is a rookie to get real hits for now. Like, right now he works on Ubel Blatt.
When the photo was taken he probably already had the Yukihira surname, but if you remember his visit on the dorm, he says to just call him Jouichirou, so it's possible that Erina only knows his first name.
Regardless of Viz's localization (which I don't care for), please keep supplying these every week OP. As long as the translation itself is correct I don't mind, though I'll be archiving re-reading/archiving Casanova's translations as I always have.
