My PAL(AU) PS3 was able to play Jap BDs just fine.

Which BD did you get that was region locked? in my experience I've not encountered any, but I don't exactly have a large collection, just a few distro'd by aniplex, one by kadokawa, and some other ones about the place.

Well, I haven't tried any american or japanese ones marked A in a B player. But take FMP season 1 & 2 were region free but The Second Raid was A only, at least the first release which I believe predates the S1 & S2 sets. The US release of the Twelve Kingdoms are marked as A. As is FMA:B and Black Lagoon, so FUNi seems consistently A-only.

- Madoka (series, box and 3 movies)
- Non Non Biyori
- Hidamari Sketch Hiro & Sae Graduation OVA

Eva's BD box is on my top priority list now.
