This is more artist oriented. Post stuff your working on. Not a request thread.

A highly successful /co/ thread series. Post your work/manga/lifedrawing, at any skill level. Help each other out.

Not anime.
>>
Ripped this off from the /co/ "work on your art" Batman Threads. Edited some stuff for better context.

The environment here is much more lax and encouraging than in /ic/, and is generally more about having fun rather than engaging in rigorous studies and minutely perfecting our technique. Despite this, please keep the following in mind:

Rules:
> 1. Post your art.
> 2. Critique other people's art.
> 3. Accept/Reject critique and make better art in the meantime!
> 4. Do 2 without being an asshole or pushing advice on things you don't actually understand. It's fine to give your take on things regardless of skill level though.
> 5. Do 3 without being a defensive prick. Not all critique is constructive or valid, but rejecting the comments that are gets you nowhere.
> 6. Have fun!

> /r/-ing [X]
Try the /a/ drawthread, instead.

> How do I get better in general?/How do I get started?
Read and do the /ic/ sticky.

> How do I draw [X]?
Draw that object/body part from life until you're blue in the face.

Well I'll give it a shot. I'd like to see people post some work. I'm here to help for a few hours. If it gets deleted, no loss. I didn't exactly put in a lot of effort copypasting info.

And maybe I'll try it another day like a monday morning when things are slower.

It's funny, they even have constant "anime/stylized" threads now. This thread has no purpose.

Yeah I've started getting more into drawing in photoshop lately so I don't have to worry about hitting an "edge" anymore, I can just enlarge the canvas. I thought that would've been big enough, that was an 8.5x11, but I underestimated, especially on the wings. I don't have the same control drawing digitally yet but I'm working on it.

Once again this isn't about making a career, just post some creative stuff. The draw thread is for serving peoples masturbatory fantasies. On here you can make what YOU want.

I'm trying to get better at drawing, but I usually get confused as to where to start.
Like for instance when I see how many aspects there are to art and what is important I get kinda overwhelmed and try to learn everything at once if that makes sense.
Like one day I'll work on people, another I'll try and do buildings or some shit.

As of right now, I got that one michael hampton book and am currently reading through that trying to pace myself.

it looks like you've already collected some pretty slamming reference though.

Keep this in mind. The reason you can't find a lot of reference on google is because of image copyrights. Even some things you wouldn't think of anyone caring about, has copyrights. There are so many images you guys aren't seeing on google because of this. Think about how often National Geographic or any similar science resource channel pulls their content off youtube. This is the same deal. If you wanna grab that reference you have to find a library, an image bank and really put in some work to find it or buy it, or torrent it.

I'm lucky enough to live near NYC, so i can go visit the NYPL image bank and get thousands of images you will never find online. You gotta get in there.

Another thing I can recommend you is to shoot your own pictures. Sometimes it just doesn't exist, but if you have a cheap point and shoot, you can make it happen.

Idunno if this helps, but you can see these guys talk about buying reference books.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukNI5ojXU9U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIUbGJuAxTY

The idea is the same, and the Japanese do it too. Hell even in Bakuman they show too.

If you want to improve everything at once then just draw things that are correct, in other words real life objects. If you draw correct things enough times then your hands and brain will learn how to draw even if you don't.

>learn to draw everything at once
This is actually kind of possible if you just practice perspective and form you do train everything at once. I highly recommend you buy this book.

>>117497489
Some people learn faster than others. But you can get pretty formidable in under a year of serious study.

>>117497490
I would have never thought of that, that's brilliant though. I may do that myself.
>>
>>117497489
People learn at different rates man.
When you start trying to improve some things will click with you and some won't.
I mean if you put forth the effort and actually try, you can see results within months.

Just keep drawing and studying, I believe in you.

Even for the style you are going for, the face is off. It's a difficult angle to be sure, but even then the features are misplaced/too symbolic. Try doing at least some studies of proper anatomy before branching into your own style, it becomes much easier to actually adjust and exaggerate.

The background is nice, even though the branches of the trees are sort of off as well (off center, trees also have leaves/pines that encircle the whole upper branches so its better to just have the background peek through a few select areas rather than what you did)

I had been in one of the aforementioned /co/ threads a while ago and got some tips on how to draw women. I feel like the faces have lost a sense of femininity though. Any tips on how to fix this? For reference, the left is where I started and right where /co/ led me.
>>
>>117498615
To start, do you know how actual skulls work? Once you've figured this out, look at some female skulls in particular and compare them to male skulls and musculature.

Pay attention to the jaw, chin, and cheekbones in particular. Eyes/nose/lips will just symbolically communicate gender cues. If you want your drawings to actually look feminine learn facial structure.

You will be better served figuring out the specifics on your own.

>>
>>117498615
In addition to what the other anon said, work on your proportionality. Placing the features of the face in the proper position goes a long way to improving your art. make sure the eyes are under that median line as opposed to below it for instance. I recommend finding an anatomy book, the rules aren't that hard to learn, you can pick them up in one or two drawings and after that your work will look way better.

I draw for fun. Though if I have ever have time I'd love to go back and properly do the lineart and coloring.

>>117499422
When I prepare the lineart for coloring I make sure to use lines sparingly. But yes, I wish my sketches can be cleaner.

>>117499937
That's beyond my skill level since I never learned how to draw proper human anatomy.

And that's all I got on my computer at the moment.
>>
>>117500513
If its on your computer, it might be easier to start with larger lines for your sketch and work your way down to smaller lines as you fill in details and go over the initial lines. That way you can minimize the amount of chicken scratch you use.
>>
>>117500588
