The original western F/SN fanbase was full of cancerous shounen-loving secondaries, and it wasn't until later that people got into the Nasuverse as a whole and realized from Tsukihime that HF is what his works are supposed to be like.

People liked Fate because it was the first route and the one that got animated, so secondaries enjoyed it. UBW was a drastic improvement over Fate and, in terms of the themes and tones of Fate/Stay Night, had the most thematically appropriately resolution to the game's plot. After Fate/Zero came out, people realized that, in terms of the themes and tones of Fate/Zero -> Fate/Stay Night, HF had the most thematically appropriate conclusion to the series as a whole.

It's odd, but tastes from the fanbase fluctuate all over the world. HF really was debased not just in the west, but in Japan too, for being depressing. Nasu's opinions on Sakura and the route have fluctuated too.

If you got him to honestly state his opinions, you'd find that he'd admit that his views were reflected upon the fanbases reactions. For instance, Sakura has gotten a large amount of support since 2009, and if you look at his reviews of her placings, he starts taking back the silly jokes he makes about her when he sees her getting top 10 with little exposure and small roles from an international poll. Probably baffles him. Even says she is perfect legal wife material in the twitter posts for the UBW anime.

Why do you think Kohaku adopted her Melty Blood persona wholesale? He sees what works and goes with it.

I suspect that we'll see more and more official support for HF after the movie.

Honestly, it would be strange if she didn't clash with Rin.
After all, there's no need for two suns in the same sky.
However, although she might be a bit cranky at having the disguise she wore for so long suddenly ripped away, she seems to be having fun passing the days away with Rin, so it's probably alright.

I think HF and UBW are better than fate. Fate doesnt really feel like an conclusion, shirou didnt change that much and if we ignore that retarded last chapter most likely ends up with Rin anyway. He didnt change too much even though he saw someone else with the same beliefs trying to get rid of everything she achieved.
UBW makes shirou clash much more with his ideals even though he and saber dont get together. Ironically Rin and shirou also have a better romance progression even though Fate was riding much more on romance.
Heavens feel is good but changes up quite a lot. At the one hand it handles the theme from another perspective. But at the other hand it just brushes away all the servants and masters nasu doesnt need for the story and has some random cooking in the middle.

People are bitter about it for reasons that baffle me, all the backstory of Saber was really good and the route already gives you a lot of bits and pieces about Shirou's Hypocrisy. Oh, this I agree. But Fate is strictly Saber's route and Shirou is more like someone that encounters and learns something with the experience. The ideal is unchanged, but it isn't that UBW really changes it as well, it just gives Shirou a different point of view, making him realize what's wrong. As Nasu himself stated, UBW and Fate are routes on opposite sides of a coin.
