The main character of Kaitou Joker isn't called Kaito, it's... Joker. And while the timing of the two TV series is pretty suspect (reminds me of the Nobunaga the Fool/Nobunagun season), the phantom thief was a stock character long before the first incarnations of Magic Kaito.
