Pretty much this.
Burumas are one thing to make somehow unattractive, but to make Shimakaze somehow non-erotic, that was a grave sin.
I expected Diomedea to fuck this up though to be honest. I'm pretty sure otaku will think like I do.

Well im not watching for the porn.
I'll be happy as long as they include the subs in the anime and give them a decent amount of screentime.

And by subs im talking about Imuya/Goya because they were introduced in august 2013 and have no excuse to leave them out.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not watching it for that either.
But Shimakaze is a damn symbol, so seeing her skirt somehow covering her into decency made me realize once again just how cheap and disappointing Diomedea is.
It won't sell either (I have near 100% prediction rate) but that might have been inteded. They ARE having that studio animating it after all.

Were you really expecting them to turn shimakaze into some kind of slutty semen demon that goes around in a 1cm skirt and a thong?

That kind of change was 100% expected and its not like the anime will flop because they made her skirt longer.

Yes, I expected, hell 90% of any ecchi anime has that level of lewdness or more. But the worst part is how simple, undetailed the girls are, yet again.
I've had enough of that kind of crap.
Burumas look like diapers and such.

And once again, this IS Shimakaze.

So was Iku. And who knows how long in advance Shioi and Hachi's designs were done. But I wouldn't get your hopes up, the most I'm expecting is a cameo appearance. Plenty of girls that were in from the start won't make it either.

Why would you ever expect that?
Even the damaged sprites in game are pretty tame, its the fans that make the extremely lewd art and doujins and not the devs.
Shimakaze might be incredibly popular but its not like the devs will suddenly change her character and personality because the fans want to see her as some kind of huge slut.

She was always a dumb girl that only cares about going fast and the thong is there because of something about her ship design and its reflected in the anime.

Shipgirls are actually liberates Abyss monsters. This is shown by recent Abyss designs having design elements similar to the shipgirls.

When you sortie you actually capture defeated Abyss monsters, take them back and convert them, that is why you find them after battles.

Ones constructed are built off analysis of captured monsters.

>Michishio here. Why did I get assigned to such a fleet?
Ship girls get assigned to your fleet. Special ones are earned from clearing special missions, like events or the hoops you have to jump through to unlock Germans. The people in charge are just a bunch of incompetent gamblers.
>>
'Murica being butthurt forever because there will never be canon american shipgirls. There's a ton of axis stuff to go through. Namely Shinano, the whole of german navy (including capitals Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Tirpitz and Zeppelin) and the Regia Marina (which was pretty huge). Heck... there's even minor axis powers like Finland if they really run out of ideas. Once they have gathered balls to go allied (if they ever do) they'll still probably go for Britbongs first due to the connection between the countries' navies.

Abyss are the allies. It's canon. Look at those gun calibers.

Modern salute aboard USN ships is similar to the crampiest one shown here.
>>

Almost every one of those calibers correspond to a Japanese caliber, and the allies never had torpedo cruisers. The Abyss do.
>>
>>117074404

>>
>>117074404

According to the Japs, the Abyss are also IJN.

You have to hand it to them. I can't think off, offhand, a WWII product of any description that airbrushes the opposing force out of existence.

>Regia Marina

>>
>>117074526
>Almost every one of those calibers correspond to a Japanese caliber
Of course they do. Engineering works that way. It's just that only the bad guys anglo-american countries used outdated measurement systems back then.

When it comes to torpedo cruisers I'm no expert but as a classification wasn't that a "jap only" class created for their unique way of using torpedo doctrine as part of their very "nikuhaku" kind of fightingstyle. I'll just wave that thing off with the assumption that they ran out of ideas for classifications. Maybe the evil allies Abyss capture some units and convert them or something.
>>
>>117074767
There's definitely an allied portion of the Abyss. They didn't really try very hard to hide "Hellcat" fighters or the "Y" fleet at Midway. But the fact that the clearly American ships are nearly all event-only or bosses implies the generic abyss could be from any side, and the Abyss CLTs are clearly nip.

Torpedo cruisers were forbidden by treaty, but the Japanese took treaty obligations lightly.

Later it was discovered that strapping tons of explosives to the deck of a non-expendable, larger unit was a bad idea. See Choukai and Mikuma

Untrue, Japan did not complete metrication until December 31st, 1958. Until then, measurements were legal in Imperial, Metric or Japan's old system.

> I'll just wave that thing off with the assumption that they ran out of ideas for classifications.
You could handwave the use of the imperial system and say that they were just using the original names of the British Guns the IJN based their cannons off too, but let's not.

>airbrushes the opposing force out of existence.
It's smart. It lets them recreate history while not excluding entire nations worth of cute girls as potential additions. The abyss are just a stand in for the proper enemy in any given conflict. That way they could represent Americans, or Japanese, or anything in between, and it'd make sense no matter which nation you're commanding to fight them. Meanwhile, the backstory of them being malicious spirits along with some vague voiced lines keeps people guessing as to their true nature. I don't think it'll ever go full grimdark though. It's basically the same setup as the Neuroi, though I appreciate that they put effort into giving the abyssals some character.
>>
>>117075186

>>
>>117074882
Well some of those make up for an excellent design, story or personality for the character. It's not the amazing achievements in battle. Even Yamato was a frickin hotel with sinkings whatsoever, but it's one of the more famous vessels of the war. At very least Tirpitz makes for a great cold and lonely character with her being secluded into a Norwegian fjord for years. I'm not sure if it's possible to shoehorn some Norway-related lines but that should be cool. Regia Marina wasn't great though. I'm not sure if they had any heroic ships or ships with good stories since they lost a couple of their battleships in that silly Taranto incident to some outdated biplane britbong torpedo bombers. That doesn't make for a cool story. Scharnhorst and Gneisenau could easily get a ton of cool lines for everything they did.

If that were true then she'd be the star of the anime and most other spinoff works, but those belong to other destroyers. But immodesty and lewdness are hardly a problem in this industry and I don't think there's anything about her design that needs to be removed or doesn't contribute to her overall style. If her outfit wasn't so effective then it wouldn't be one of the most iconic parts of the franchise.

Honestly, against any other navy in the world in 1941 the nips would have done well. For all the old McMahonites in the USN, it still had a fairly advanced carrier force in 1941 with up-to-date planes at a time when the RN was using a biplane for a torpedo bomber and the Brewster Buffalo for a fighter, and it had the industrial power to replace their losses. Assuming no lend-lease, the RN would have had a tough fight even if it won against the IJN, and the others (RM, the French Navy, Kriegsmarine) wouldn't have stood a chance.

The IJN were woefully outgunned from the start. During WWII the USN had over 6700 surface vessels with over 1000 of those being active naval combatants.

Honestly, after WWII the US navy could of 1v the rest of the world in terms of tonnage. I guess we really fucking wanted to win.

Not exactly. With the resources the US and RN needed in the Atlantic the IJN and the Allies (all of them) were equals in the Pacific throughout 1942. It didn't become a steamroller until the Two Ocean Navy Act started producing results early 1943.
>>
>>117077869
>During WWII the USN had over 6700 surface vessels with over 1000 of those being active naval combatants.
That's not from the start, that's over the duration of the war on two oceans. The IJN was not horrifically outmatched at the beginning, but they were acutely aware that without a major victory or peace they would be in the long run, but couldn't do anything to change it.

The IJN hoped to maintain a roughly 7:10 ratio, which is hardly "outgunned" when the Japanese had a comparatively slightly better carrier doctrine at the beginning of the war and a comparable amount of planes.

Besides industrial capacity of the US shitting on Japan's, the major advantage USN has on the IJN is its fire-control systems using primitive computations and not-relaying solely on line of sights and optics to range and fire on targets.

While the daylight was ruled by the carrier and the operative level stuff was dictated by them you have to give the shoutout to jap cruisers and destroyers that were able to stomp allied vessels in nearly every night engagement on the pacific. Everything about jap ships, their doctrine and crews was superior for night fighting. Not that night stuff mattered in the long run because even japs started fumbling once they started to feel attrition on their destroyer force and americans mastered the radar which enabled them to rule the night.

It was even claimed in the japanese navy that brown -eyed people could see better in the dark than the filthy blue-eyed gaijins and thus anything a gaijin could see , a japanese could see better. Americans were said to claim that japs had bad eyesight due to them slanty eyes so I'm not sure who to believe though. Either way the jap lookouts were quite adept at their jobs during night engagements.

Or, you know, they couldn't. The US wasn't just throwing Radars around.
>Modernized battleships are nice to have in reserve, but fielding such things is simply silly
The whole "Hotel" moniker comes because nobody seriously considered fielding the Yamato-class and Nagato-class battleships until they had clearly no other choice. The Kongou, which were fast enough, served admirably in the Java sea, Indian Ocean and fairly well at Guadalcanal.
>Japan didn't even make folding carrier wings standard, even the monsterous Shinano could only carry around 50 planes.
This, though, is definitely a poor decision. At that point, though, Japan's issue was less that they had bad planes (they didn't) than that they didn't have good pilots to use them.

Wing folding gear made the planes heavier. It also would have made it harder to put fuel tanks in the wings, which was part of the reason Japanese carrier aircraft had such great range. They were not prepared to give up the range and light weight to carry a few more planes.

This is working around on multiple levels. The kongous were functional but their armor was to light; as were their anti-air capabilities. The kongou class's armor was designed to detonate cannon shells before then pierced the armor. It didn't work. The yamato class was just useless. It burned up too much fuel, there wasn't enough space on board for effective management, the guns rocked the boat to the point that the ship had to settle before the other armaments could open up, the anti-air guns were the clunky box fed ones that jammed, damage control was awful, they were slow, and they were overvalued. Oh, and it had abysmal anti-air capabilities. I'm all but certain an iowa class would've beaten it.

"few more planes"
Zuikaku: 844 feet, 72 aircraft carried.
Yorktown: 824 feet, 90 aircraft

"few extra planes" my ass. and the planes they did carry were obsolete. I'd like to remind you as well that the average U.S. plane was two times the size of a japanese plane.
"wing folding gear made the planes heavier"
uh, no, a pair of hinges does not way a ton. U.S. planes were heavier because they were bigger, faster, more heavily armed and armored. and also not shit. Their weight was in proportion.

Nope, that's exactly how they salute in IJN. They hold arms very close to their chest because of the very limited space on the deck. IJA always made fun of the Navy salute because "they hold back like a coward".

You're just throwing out flaws without actually addressing my point. Regardless of their anti-air abilities of armor, the Kongou-class performed their job perfectly well into the mid-war.

>The yamato class was just useless.
And that's why the IJN command chose not to deploy them until there was literally no alternative, which was the point I was trying to make.

>I'm all but certain an iowa class would've beaten it.
Which is great, because the USN never got to use Iowa in a surface action either, because this was a war where neither of these battleships were particular important until the planes had landed. Every navy in the world (Hood, Iowa-class, Yamato-class, Surcouf) built flawed or somewhat obsolete surface vessels.

>>117080327
The USN was more advanced in areas, not as advanced in some. The IJN had better carrier-based fighters and bombers with a much longer range, as well as a much better doctrine for using them. The USN had superior radars, much more heavily-armored planes and very quickly adapted to carrier doctrine while their surface vessels were under repair, but they were the ones evidently outmatched in the early war.

Well since the Washington treaty(that pretty much dictated the initial power balance at the start of the war) limited size, the nations had to find different means of swinging their dicks around. It was all about honing doctrines, training crews and advancing in technologies. The japs were steps ahead in various things. I would even go as far as saying that the sides were evenly matched if we take "force multipliers" into account and not only the material balance. It is just that as a country america is so vast and capable of producing shit and having own oil reserves and all that jazz.

Even the japs knew that in the long run they would lose. Saying that they were outnumbered especially after what happened at Pearl Harbour (in b4 someone states the obvious by writing "BBs a shit") is a slight exaggeration. It was the japanese political view that americans didn't have it in them to enter a war after all that isolationism and passive support in Europe. Little did they know they had awoken a fearsome besta that would fight for it's freedom.

>Regardless of their anti-air abilities of armor, the Kongou-class performed their job perfectly well into the mid-war.

...no, not so much. hei and kirishima bought it in 1942 because of inadequate armor. kongou lasted till 1944 till she died because of the same reasons. haruna died in 1945 when the U.S. swamped her with bombs.

>Which is great, because the USN never got to use Iowa in a surface action either, because this was a war where neither of these battleships were particular important until the planes had landed. yea, I know battle ships were obsolete, we all do. The fact of the matter is that the U.S. ships were less obsolete.

The IJN's aa installations were so hilariously inferior that entire months would go by without ships shooting down planes. And yes, that armor made a difference. Here is a DIRECT QUOTE from The Japanese ace Saburo Sakai, a well honored man. here he described the Wildcat's capacity to absorb damage:

I had full confidence in my ability to destroy the Grumman and decided to finish off the enemy fighter with only my 7.7 mm machine guns. I turned the 20 mm cannon switch to the "off" position, and closed in. For some strange reason, even after I had poured about five or six hundred rounds of ammunition directly into the Grumman, the airplane did not fall, but kept on flying. I thought this very odd—it had never happened before—and closed the distance between the two airplanes until I could almost reach out and touch the Grumman. To my surprise, the Grumman's rudder and tail were torn to shreds, looking like an old torn piece of rag. With his plane in such condition, no wonder the pilot was unable to continue fighting! A Zero which had taken that many bullets would have been a ball of fire by now.

—Saburo Sakai, Zero[20]

U.S. aces called the zero "the matchstick" because of it's tendency to burst up in flames.

Actual scientist here (Geology)
>US already uses the metric system in the sciences,

The only time we work in metric is:
1. When we need to publish in an international science journal.
2. When we might be on TV.

Water is measured in acre-feet, land surveys are in square miles, psi and cubic inches are the norm. As far as I'm aware nobody's bothered by it except in passing. Last time I needed to actually convert measurements from metric was about 3 weeks ago we were doing well slug tests
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slug_test

You haven't proved your point, all you've said were that Japanese battleships were flawed--which is completely pointless, since both sides were aware of this and relied on carrier combat throughout the war. I can't disprove a point you've failed to prove

>...no, not so much. hei and kirishima bought it in 1942
Remind me how many ships have survived essentially 41cm rounds at 5000 meters? And that was after devastating Guadalcanal, and wrecking face in Java and the Indian Ocean.

>The fact of the matter is that the U.S. ships were less obsolete.
Which is irrelevant to the point, because the war was not decided by the obsolete

>In early war, sure. not so much during 1943 onward. and NOTHING beat the dauntless.
Those failures came from a loss of skilled pilots and lack of industrial capacity, not because they (as you argued in >>117079605) "refused to update their tech". The Japanese were constantly testing and updating their planes throughout the war, the problem was that they lacked the industrial capacity to produce them, and they were being piloted by drafted 17-year olds.

while shit pilots and shit industrial capacity did indeed have influence, you cannot deny that 1944 is anywhere near soon enough to prototype a replacement to the zero.

>No, it's not, your original point was that You haven't proved your point, all you've said were that Japanese battleships were flawed--which is completely pointless, since both sides were aware of this and relied on carrier combat throughout the war. I can't disprove a point you've failed to prove

I dont' actually understand any of this but let me make my overall argument clear to avoid misunderstanding.

the IJN was shit.

It was shit for various reasons. Some reasons, mind you, were not the fault of the IJN. Some mistakes the IJN did make though was producing battleships that didn't really do anything but sink, not making enough aircraft carriers (of all types) failure to standardize and update equipment and misuse of resources.
