Angelic Howl is considered one of the best things in the vn. The japs fucking love it. So it should be no surprise that they are going to pour their entire budget into Angelic Howl and dump as many episodes as possible into it. Plus it has Kazuki in it which will allow it tie in with the sequels if they intend to do a second season. On the plus side I am looking forward to seeing scenes like this one animated. I didn't like Makina's route much.
It was cool to see all that Yuuji backstory - though him talking endlessly about Asako became vexing at some point.

The idea of action was cool, but the people from Ichigaya looked absolutely incompetent it wasn't even funny. It was pretty much Yuuji getting away with everything almost flawlessly. Hell, even Makina made them look bad. That alone speaks volumes.

Add to that the bad mix with action and comedy, and the fact that romance had no place in this route and that it's insertion felt forced.

I really didn't enjoy it much.

You know what I hate about this adaption, if it was given 24 episodes, it would have come out pretty fucking good. The voice acting is there, the humor, the art, the music, it's all there. To be fair LB was adapted by J.C Staff who are known for their inability to adapt things right. Plus it had a shit director as well. Blame that on simply bad choices for who to make it. Grisaia has a great director and a iffy studio but have been doing well enough for the episodes they are given. This could be much worse then what it is. Compared to LB this is a pretty damn good adaptation.

And a terrible one at that. It would be a lot more bearable if it wasn't a foregone conclusion, but you know exactly what will happen from the start. Combining this with it's grinding length it's fucking unbearable.

I mean, I get that they were really trying to immerse you in the bleakness of it all. I really do. But it just wasn't a good decision, they could have cut out well over a half of it and still have all the Kuzuki and drama it needed to for plot purposes. This kind of shit is what happens when directors fall in love with thier shit and can't keep it under 4 hours. It just isn't good.

Y'know, I was thinking of picking this VN up if the anime seemed interesting, and to be honest this adaptation is the worst possible thing they could have made for people like me. Aside from Michiru's part, all the rest of the parts seem like they adapted the climax and that's it. So they skip all the background stuff that makes the climax significant, and then spoil you on the twist anyway. This anime is like someone screaming "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE" for me.
