The reason why they chose this route of making a series as opposed to a movie is that a movie's too short for UBW. We saw the results of that attempt. It was less than ideal.

They've done their best to mitigate this by the change in focus at the end of day 4, and the reduction in slice of life cooking scenes. It seems like the director for the series has placed a clear focus on the intrigue and actions of teh grail war, going so far as to include alot of minute detail in those opening school scenes to give the audience a proper grounding for the narrative hooks that'll get pulled later. Ayako being one example that's quickly emerged. The school scenes do serve to contrast the rest of Emiya and Tohsaka's actions during the grail war.

If HF is going to work as a movie, it's going to have to be focused. Three narrative threads that I recall are the plot lines for Sakura, and Ilya. Caster will get the shaft in the interest of time. Shinji will likely be killed off screen but the discovery at the Matou house shouldn't take long. Zouken will appear, but they'll have to cut some of the True Assassin scenes unless they've come up with a way to keep all that shit under 10m. They'll have to keep the Alter fight. They'll likely skip some of the school scenes after they establish Sakura's rose colored routine..maybe.

Zero has only had an anime for the last three or so years. Before that it was a shakily translated J->C->E Baka-Tsuki/Beast's Lair LN. In comparison, F/SN had a better translation, and also had music and visuals to boost the experience. That might have helped.
