If you watched the show then you would know, it's pretty obviously explained.

The backpack is a metaphor. The saying goes that a "snail has its home on its back." Hachikuji originally is searching for her home, the irony being that no matter how far she walks, she'll never find it because it's right behind her.

Corn husk. Lots of 'em. Hachikuji is a master thief who travels Japan, pilfering corn husks whenever she finds them. Now you're probably thinking, "What value is their in corn husks?" Well they actually contain an abnormal about of spirit energy. For this reason they're useful in occult rituals and the sort. Mayoi is trying to collect 1000 to summon Belphegor into the plane of man.

>>116572090
Actually, she says that it's her sleep-over stuff. She was going to her mom's after all when she had died.
>>116573891
iirc she ran away from home the day she died so it's porbablya shit ton of cash
>>116573891
It can be both of these things. That actually just deepens the symbolism since that's literally her carrying around her "home" stuff.
>>116573891
Okay, without having actually seen this anime, I'm going to take a wild guess and say she was hit by a vehicle. Am I right? Even better if it was a truck.
>>116573966
>>116574012
No, it's in the commentary of Bake. Cat asked her what was in it and she told her it was her sleepover gear.
>>116573105
She has taken it off, nothing happened.

There is only one kind of vehicle in Bakemonogatari.
>>116574338
have you not seen ararararararagi's car?
>>116574388
Did I say Hanamonogatari?
"Snail" was 70s Detroit street drive for "drug mule". The point was the Detroit Metropolitan Police Department would slow down and detain drug traffickers for the express purpose of bribing Jamaican kingpins. Because they had to jump through this hop, traffickers where "slow as snails."
>>116574435
fuck then what about crab's father's car?
>>116574442
I think it's just because it makes her shadow look like a snail.
>>116574500
Gahara's father is poor after his divorce, he had to borrow the car from a friend.
>>116574442
"SNAILS" is also a term that law students use to refer to other students who study in the law library during exam season. It means "Students not actually in law school." So basically Hachikuji is a drug trafficking college student searching for a quiet place to study.
>>116574500
Yeah, it's different. It's an SUV or a hatchback or something.
If hachikuji is a snail then why is her backpack a face of a bird?
>>116575004
Because she is wings.
>>116575004
It's a defense strategy to scare off other birds that try to eat her.
It's an advanced evolutionary tactic of mimicry.
>>116575004
Because it'sfuck you
>>116574610
Bakemontogatari is wasted on people like you. It's the literary pinnacle of anime and you need to actually understand the world around you to understand the depth of this show. Read a few books on the social history of the west from the late 80s to the death of DFW and you might be able to begin to understand the profound truths the show exposes. If you think you can't do that, go back to your pulpy 2deep "serial experiment lain" Neuromanceresque pulp genre fiction crap.
>>116575427
Does DFW mean Dallas-Fort Worth?

>>116575637
Dude, while Bakemonogatari is a great show, and I also love reading serious literature, you sound like a huge dick.
David Foster-Wallace is good, if that style of writing is your thing. Personally I prefer the less verbose and description-heavy "gut writer" style of prose, but I certainly appreciate DFW.
However, this is /a/. You really sound like a pretentious douche coming on here spouting shit like that to try to belittle someone else. While I do in fact appreciate your ideas and connections, (coincidentally I'm a law student,) your approach and your butthurt, condescending tone leave much to be desired.
This is not /lit/.

>>116576308
Fuck yeah. Bukowski rules. Superior taste in literature on MY /a/?
I like /lit/ sometimes, but there are an awful lot of tryhards on there who read stuff like DFW and the Russians and heavy Joyce stuff just so they can condescend to others. Most of the time they don't even understand it, (some of them anyway. I've had some great anonymous conversations with some really intelligent and unpretentious people there as well.)
