At this point I only watch anime because I am;

A) Desperate for Japanese media since I spent this long learning the language and culture.

B) Like cute and attractive things. 2-D makes everything look better.

C) Like fantasy and escapism in media as well as the occasional SOL (if its funny enough) and anime does this quite frequently.

D) Too lazy/cheap to buy manga.

That said I don't pick up more than 1 or 2 new titles a year. Sometimes I hit hard, sometimes I drop everything and go back to re-watching what I liked as a kid.

Sure, there are some gems if you look for them, but the Japanese culture has full-blown embrassed little-sisters and harem media. People shit on Naruto and some on One Piece, but those anime were (and still are) one of the most creative, and well thought, anime concepts of their time. There isn't even any real anime considerations to replace them anymore, where back then it wasn't the case. All the anime before the big 3 were even better than the big 3, but now the quality has been dropping.
