>I don't even say i'm into anime IRL
Why would you? Most people on /a/ hide their powerlevels, I've been watching anime for twelve years and my sister saw me watching DBZ one time, and that was it.
Let me put it this way, I watch anime that I wouldn't be ashamed to tell a woman about.
I also get to talk to women.
Yeah, he should have stuck with manga.
I'm semi-serious. This is the most amazing manga I've ever read.
>"We're so glad your sister didn't turn out like you"
At this point I only watch anime because I am;
A) Desperate for Japanese media since I spent this long learning the language and culture.
B) Like cute and attractive things. 2-D makes everything look better.
C) Like fantasy and escapism in media as well as the occasional SOL (if its funny enough) and anime does this quite frequently.
D) Too lazy/cheap to buy manga.
That said I don't pick up more than 1 or 2 new titles a year. Sometimes I hit hard, sometimes I drop everything and go back to re-watching what I liked as a kid.
I spend time on /a/ cause you fuckers are the most hilarious board by far, and not intentionally. I wish I could find a kiss-less /a/non to bully, molest and
hold hands with.
I get to talk to women too and no I;m not talking about my family.
Yes, I'm sure you're also rich, handsome, and famous.
Cold Steel is complete and utter shit.
Why would you pick what entertainment you enjoy in your free time regarding to what women think?
Being desperate for pussy and acting like you're high and mighty is sort of contradictory
Pfffft. That's like saying Kirino is "realistic" because, what the fuck, someone has pain-in-the-butt real little sisters.
If he bitches about taking inspiration from real life, he sure as hell did send a mixed message in the end.
Agreed. Otaku ruined the industry by demanding more moeblob bullshit and generic romcom crap with shit animation and shit stories because they need to feel affection but are too afraid to pick up women. It has gotten to the point where actual artists have to turn to fucking kickstarter to get a decent show gowing
If not for these people this industry would be long dead, he couldn't make money on it because nobody would bother to make some stupid cartoon and you wouldn't be here because this place wouldn't exist.
>shitty /v/ meme
seriously mods why is this allowed?
Posting superior grumpy jijisan
>which actually more or less makes sense in his ramblings, even
>MFW there are actually people who don't like watching cure girls doing cute things
That's good, then. I just haven't been seeing too many examples recently. They sort of moderate in waves, where they'll delete nothing for a while, and then they'll delete a bunch. If it was constant, the problems wouldn't even be discussed because they'd be quelled as quickly as they spring up.
And where and how many animators would you find without industry dedicated to them? How could you make great looking animation that people so praise without workers trained for years to do it? Single studio can't survive by itself and can't be sustain by itself, it doesn't matter to who are you selling your product if factory that produce it and whole industry behind it doesn't exist.
ITT: Losers who have been here so long that they've forgotten what normal people are.
There are people here bragging about talking to women. Next we will have people bragging about having sex.
What's next, kids? Did you put on your clothes all by yourself today? I'm sure you can find someone on the internet that can't do that and happens to share your hobby.
You are wrong
Its just the few butthurt faggots attracted by n/a/ruto who thinks they are edge lords by watching "manly" animu and talks shit about /a/'s preference
Hopefully they will die out, and /a/ will return to what it is
About how moeshit didn't exist until one started watching anime, and how mature anime for mature people like oneself are going to save the industry that definitely didn't have moeshit in it until recently.
Also about how moeshit is definitely not a retarded term used by ignorant plebs.
my manga collection is the first thing you see in my bedroom, so i don't have to worry about any girls seeing it.
>hates anyone who doesn't hold politically correct opinions.
Clearly you are new
Bragging about real life-or blogging-is considered shit-posting and always will be
Also, who wants sex with
The joke is that out of literally dozens of sites, they choose to come to the place that they'd fit in the least with and cry like babies because they aren't being catered to.
Sure, but making even one movie require much more money to it if you don't have both reliable work force and constant flow of money, people from Ghibli work on others things for different studios when they are not making another movie or just aren't needed, otherwise you would need pay them for sitting and doing nothing or train new people before every new movie and that's waste of money.
Reminder that the people who talk about "moeshit" and "manly" anime are actually just fucking losers who don't want to admit it to themselves, so they act like they're superior to the rest of us to maintain a sense of normalcy.
well i dunno when moemoe 'came out' but i guess mahoromatic might be considered using moe and it was in the late 90s
love hina busted onto the scene and popularized a shitton of the stock harem character archetype in the same the same time period
what about before that?
Anime since the 80s has always had its share of cute shit.
Anime has never needed "saving" because it's too cute or substanceless.
Arguing about 'moeshit killing the industry' is retarded on all levels. Moeshit is a retarded term, and whatever definition they try to scrape up from their rotten underage brains, they usually find that it's been around in some form or another since before they were born.
I'm talking about this thread in particular.
I don't watch moe shit because I find it fucking boring. Slice of Life has no appeal to me. That said, the fact that I've personally had sex has no bearing on a conversation about whether or not moe is the cancer killing anime, and were I to claim that my filling an extremely basic requirement for vague normality somehow was evidence that moe was for losers because I didn't like it, I would come across as a pathetic faggot who thought that was some kind of amazing achievement which put me above all my peers.
And behold. The thread is full of that shit.
That's what you're doing now, though.
Just like anime, I was created thanks to bad choices and alcohol.
Just report and ignore blogshit and shitposters.
Dude, their movies could have been four times costlier and they would've been showered in money anyway.
Also, they could've simply done some World Masterpiece Theater shit "in the meantime".
Execpt for Grave, maybe. Which is right, cause it mostly sucked.
Except it doesn't actually elevate me. It's just one of those things not every /a/non gets to. If a person wants to be considered better than anyone else here, they would need to do a lot more than manage to wank off in a wet hole.
If you're being sincere, I appreciate and respect what you're saying. The problem isn't with people disliking moe because it doesn't suit their personal taste, the problem is with retards who gain a sense of superiority for only watching "manly" anime, when regardless, we're all fucking losers.
I like how he's oblivious to the fact that he's simply been left behind by the industry at large. He can't keep up, or understand what younger people are into, so he paints everything with the same, broad brush. It reminds me of the people who watched toonami as children and go on to claim that all new anime is terrible despite not actually watching anything from then on. I wonder if he truly thinks that his thoughts are unique and original?
That's not how economy works, if you don't make x% of profit nobody will fund it especially with given risk since you are making a cartoon, right now they can make everything they want however they please, but without financial freedom they have now you would be getting budget half-productions, which might sell or might not especially with western consumer for whom it's just some cheap looking kid show from county known from making electronics and losing WWII because nobody care about hand drawn animation anymore, it would be cheaper and safer to just make live action movie.
idk man I have like 100 different versions of this and I am not sorting through them all
How did a picture of Miyazaki with something he never even said written on it get this many replies? You guys are worse than tumblr for stirring up shit based on stuff that never happened.
Why is this thread still up? Why are our mods such useless fucks?
Whether or not people want to admit it he's almost always right.
People are just butthurt because their sensitive little egos can't take him pointing out their flaws.
No he's not. He's a hack who figured out a formula Japan likes and has been churning out mild variations on the same theme for thirty years, and while he's made a lot of money doing it that doesn't make him some kind of expert on anything else.
I never said he doesn't have flaws. In fact he has a lot of them.
That doesn't make his arguments any less valid.
No, but it does mean you shouldn't hold him up to some position of expertise, as though his opinion is gospel based on his works.
His arguments weren't valid in the first place.
>No it fucking doesn't. If you know anything about Miyazaki it really doesn't.
>If you know anything about Miyazaki it really doesn't.
>If you know anything about Miyazaki
Well what do you know?
What is this bullshit?
I thought the Naruto thread were only so active because people who usually don't participate in them got nostalgic and visited them now that the manga has ended.
But considering this thread it really does seem like a bunch of newfags actually came to /a/ because of it.
Someone please tell me, who the fuck goes here when they hate waifus, incest, moe and all that? This is literally THE last place you should come to when you hate these things.
>I thought the Naruto thread were only so active because people who usually don't participate in them got nostalgic and visited them now that the manga has ended.
The Naruto thread(s) were so active because of trolling.
You don't get to 30 threads without people disregarding common practice.
You don't get to a thread activity of over 100 if you read people's posts before you hit submit.
It's all shitposting.
Yes but he has been working in the anime for years.
His word isn't gospel and whether or not his work was good is a matter of opinion, but if you consider what his views on a stand-alone basis (i.e. considering the actual argument rather than the person making it) he definitely makes a lot of good points.
But he hasn't since the mid-1980s. Ghibli is indeed making anime, but he might as well be in a different industry for all it has in common with TV studios.
He's making family-friendly films with high production values that are expected to be box office hits and usually perform accordingly. He's never tried to make something in a late-night timeslot with only otaku if that as a guaranteed audience - heck, otaku were just getting started as a group back when he founded Ghibli. He doesn't know what he's talking about.
>hating on naruto
You go back to MAL
His son was a mistake.
If you guys actually read his quotes, he's referring to how anime isn't so much about the story or the characters anymore. Anime nowadays panders to Otakus, creating too many harem anime, making creative anime less frequent. Anime has certainly taken a turn than what it was 10-15 years ago.
I think anime it's more creative than ever.
There's more production and animation it's cheaper.
Sure, there are some gems if you look for them, but the Japanese culture has full-blown embrassed little-sisters and harem media. People shit on Naruto and some on One Piece, but those anime were (and still are) one of the most creative, and well thought, anime concepts of their time. There isn't even any real anime considerations to replace them anymore, where back then it wasn't the case. All the anime before the big 3 were even better than the big 3, but now the quality has been dropping.
>Caring at all what women think.
>Being this desperate for pussy.
>Picking a hobby based on that.
Christ man, why even bother?
Just do what you want, regardless of what a woman thinks, if she isn't into your anime then find something else in common,
Also, I talk to women too, it's not a inherited skill, it's just basic communication
The Wind Rises is seen by many as an introspection of Miyazaki's career. What does it say about the man when his stand-in is an engineer of advanced tools of murder?
Furthermore, what is Miyazaki saying when he cast Hideaki Anno as his this stand-in?
All of it. There's only a small handful of harem shows airing this season, and twice as many anime originals. There are a grand total of two imouto main characters, and neither of them are romantic prospects.
Your nostalgia is rooted entirely in selection bias.
Exactly what are you basing this on? If you're basing this solely on harems, you're not getting my point. Any anime, slice-of-life or the sorts, that exhibit harem in some way (which people consider fan-service), is ever prevalent in a good portion of anime.
Anime isn't the mistake; anime fans are.
Why do you think Miyazaki admires EVA so much? It was the first anime to severely castigate the shut-in, otaku sensibility of the anime devotee.
Truly, "there is no anime newer then EVA." Good art inspires awe, wonder, philosophical reflection and challenges your sensibilities. It's inarguable that anime is meant--especially now--only as wish fulfillment. The fact EVA spurns that very thing is poetic; the fact EVA is one of the biggest cash cows in anime history is beautifully ironic.
Where are you getting that from? I've never witnessed misogyny on /a/
Like, as in harem stereotypes. A lot of "anime cliches" were brought upon by harem anime and is used in non-harem anime. Also, the character design in harem is getting used an awful lot in other anime.
Oh boy, here we go again.
I hate how anti-Naruto fans make the claim about Naruto's originality:
>How is that original?
By that logic, I can use Inuyasha, saying it's about demons and feudal Japan.
Literally any anime that has a range of female characters to pander men's interest, and has to include at least one loli. They're the same cut-out character personalities. One is always shy, the other a nerd/creep, the innocent one, the wild one, etc. There's no middle ground.
Say what you want about InuYasha, but the concept is original. It's not just about certain aspects that make an anime original, but how you use it that makes the concept.
Maybe there will be a Ninja anime with kid/teenagers that will be totally different than Naruto and become widely popular?
Even going by your ridiculously loose criteria, more than half of this season's anime don't count. Besides which, none of that has anything to do with harems, and it's completely normal, in any form of fiction, to include a variety of characters to appeal to the audience. You're just generalizing everything and overlooking all the creative details. This is the kind of viewpoint held by people that don't actually like anime.
Why not go a step further? Pretty much every single anime is about humans. What's with this human-pandering? They're just trying to sell BDs. There's no creativity.
You've been looking at anime charts and realizing I'm right?
Funny how fast you went defensive. I mean, it's pretty surprising when you look at the seaonal anime charts year-by-year.
Nice try, playing defense by trying to cast your opponent as the one being defensive in order to make yourself seem like you're "winning" to bystanders and yourself.
When I was in my late teenage years I LOVED miyazaki. I worshipped everything he did.
And it goes on.
I've recently rewatched mononoke and nausicae and they are total fucking shit, almost unwatchable, too much exposition and the scenes I remember the most fondly (forrest scenes in mononoke) are way too short compared to people talking animu stereotypes to each other.
Only ghibli movie I still enjoy is chihiro and cagliostro.
>All these leddit, tumblr incarnations who came from /v/ here.
>they choke in these shitty baits.
Naruto, in particular, was inspired by Togashi's earlier works. It's not original, but its popularity has led to many clones, which makes it historically and culturally important.
Still a secondary shit, though.
That is the definition of a pretentious old fuck who has turned into a total misanthrope and is desperately pining to die.
There's been a ton of animation auteurs in the medium and the guy doesn't think twice about throwing them all under the bus while he is some sage of the medium by his own bloated sense of importance. Studio Ghibli was his lucky strike. He didn't even create the studio. He happened upon it by other creators who helped prop it up.
This is a type of man who despises all technology and likens touchpad movements to masturbation movements.
And he has the gall to call out other creators for using cute grills for protagonists when he has been doing that all the time himself.
It's sad. I don't really blame the actual mods themselves though (well some of them anyway), it all really comes back to moot. Now posting dissenting opinions about Naruto of all things can result in a ban, today we had multiple 2000+ unironic Naruto stickies it's disgusting.
I cannot understand moot, he used to seem to 'get' it intuitively, now he's off in wonderland, it really fucking hurts to see someone like him go down this path and try and force 'inclusiveness' on the one place we could go to get away from the normalfags. I have seen users banned for telling narutards to fuck off, for posting loli threads, for using the word 'nigger' for fucks sakes. It hurts, Anon.
>in a troll image
Why would you do that?
I'm afraid all I'm hearing is,
>People aren't doing what I'm doing, the way I want to do it, therefore everyone is wrong, the whole industry is rotten, I'm out, fuck this, fuck everything
Said the man who believes that we should be teaching kids hunting, a skill that's only useful for barely sustaining the food and clothing supply of small, primitive communities, instead of math, the skill that allows anything worthy of being called civilization to exist, including granting the time, resources, and know-how for film making and broadcast.
Miyazaki is batshit insane, even by anime director standards.
You just need a handful of no-life nerds and out them in a dark room with low pay to create all the technology. For the rest of society math past elementary school level has barely a meaning.
Spoken like a true basement dweller who never has to interact with society at all. (or blue collar worker who's too stupid to follow what's going on?)
Most skilled labor that isn't just managing people and resources calls on math, and pretty much every place has a shortage of engineers who need math above just algebra 2. The guy who designed your house? The guy who designed your car? The guys who manage your electricity, water, and gas? The guys who plan the roads that everybody use? The guys who designed the computer that you're on right now? The guys who come up with new ideas that make everything more efficient and useful? They need math. There's a reason why STEM is referred to as the basics of what society needs to function. Without a population that's strong in math, society would decay and fall apart in no time.
These threads are a trainwreck.
Someone claims that anime lacks one thing or another, or it has no true value, and with people trying and failing to argue that, it eventually snowballs into a ridiculous state where everyone shits on everything and admits they only watch anime ironically, as there wouldn't be any reason otherwise.
Happy little accidents, motherfucker, do you know them?
i watched an episode of Urusei Yatsura at work in the lunch break every day this summer
girls were teasing, boys were joking
i don't give a fuck, in the end all agreed that it was a good idea
Miyazaki's a misanthropic Luddite, and if he was the figurehead of a studio in any other country, the normals would be roasting him alive on television until he went into seclusion.
he's just too old for this era, completely natural
Why does everyone who "retires" from the Anime industry start shit talking it and all the 500 flaws it has but they did nothing to change it?
I have never watched EVA, I just fap to the doujins.
An original concept means jackshit when your execution is bland and mundane. Time and time again there has been an "original" idea that went absolutely nowhere because they tread on old grounds, using the same cliches and archetypes. You can rip out the characterization of literally anyone in Inuyasha and slap it on any other Rumiko work and nothing will change because the entire cast of Inuyasha are just recycled characters from Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, or Maison Ikkoku, except shittier.
Even if I don't agree, as an oldfag I can see where he's coming from.
There's nothing wrong with cute girls doing cute things. It's all the wish-fulfillment/pandering type series that Miyazaki is bent outta shape over.
i.e. Your every day harem, romcom, and LN adaptation (not saying that LN adaptations can't be good, just most of them are pretty terrible).
Also, hardly anyone tries to experiment these days because it most likely won't sell.
Ban people that spam Naruto and Bleach threads, like they did in the past.
>zero character development
Really? Most overrated movie evar. This shit soooooo popular because of "Miyazaki cult".
Calling out the fans with shitty attitudes and creators that pander to them. I don't see the problem.
Also on another note its not that Moe is autobad but its upsetting when shit shows get pushed/better funding because waifu sales. Its stifling but hey its easy.
No, that's the idiot /v/ermin that adopted 'elitism' where they start spouting buzzwords with no sense of _why_ we instituted those cultural boundaries to begin with and end up missing the point entirely.
If it's too hard to explain then you shouldn't bother trying to critique, especially something like Princess Mononoke that's been praised even by western standards.
Just say "I disagree" and leave it that.
This bait still makes me mad.
Everything in this picture is wrong.
>And he has the gall to call out other creators for using cute grills for protagonists when he has been doing that all the time himself.
Miyazaki is talking about shit like this and you know it.
>tree of life
This has to be a ruse, there's some genuinely good or just OK stuff, but to list these things under "Greatest Artistic Achievements" is flat out preposterous.
But fucking Tree Of Life, Gone Home? Really? There exist people who thought shit like that was actually good?
>378 / 68 / 3
>not just deleting this shit thread
Well, let's see...
>AgK Waifu Wars
>ITT: Breasts you can suck for hours
>Kagura thread: Why do I want to fuck her so much? Goddamn. There's barely any decent porn of her either.
>cute little boys are the best
Aside from the threads about currently airing series, it's not like this thread has much to compete with.
No man it isn't H.
That's the FeMC from Dragonar.
No half life in the video games.
>being this pleb
There's nothing wrong with waifu threads, they've been a part of /a/ since the beginning. It's the matter of content and the fact that these days people don't put any thought into their posts or have any sense of etiquette. Go look at waifu threads on /c/ or even on tohno-chan and there's a large difference between them and /a/.
