Please, if you're going to bother playing a game as weeb as this, at least use the Japanese cards.
>>
>>116496284
This guy knows whats up. All of the good anime are only in the japanese side at the moment anyway (DC, [email protected], Haruhi, Dog Days, Bakemono etc)
>>
>>116490633
Is this a good rules manual?
http://www.heartofthecards.com/ws/manual.html

The official ones are all shit. Also soon to be Vividred reporting in.
>>
>>116496839
That's the official Japanese Weiss in America rulebook/website. So yes. I refer to that often to do judge type things.

Vividred is good shit man. What character are you going to be running?
>>
>>116497055
>What character are you going to be running?
I have to choose? Shit. Is Akane good? We're just playing starter set right now.
>>
>>116497182
Well, you only get 50 cards in a deck, so you can't run a lot of every character. Didn't mean to imply you had access to only one character to build the deck with. I was just wondering who your favorite was.
>>
>>116496284
Why would I when I cannot read moonspeak

>ib4 not knowing moonspeak
>>
Future Madoka here. How do you play against Jap cards? It was either that or Kek La Kek.
>>
>>116497321
The required moon runes for this game are retardly small. I can recognize an effect on a japense card by the shape of the punctuation on the card. Plus they're a bunch of translations online you can use.
>>116497344
What do you mean how do you play against Japenese cards? Are you talking about strategy or translation issues?

>>

>>
>>116497595
Hitler called them honorary aryans once.
>>
>>116497700
If you actually know german, most things in anime sound retarded when they try to use it.
>>
>>116498181
You certainly could run all of the vivids, but you'd have deck building problems (4 colors is horribly inconsistent). If you've ever played magic, it's like color based land screw (ie have moutain + plains need to cast blue spell).
>>116498304
My waifu is extremly viable, she combos with possibly the most broken card in the game right now. (not niseshit murrika)
>>
>>116497595
Because the wrong side won, so now Japan is trying to spite you English speaking fags.
>>
>>116498422

>>
>>116497321
Card translations exist, use them.

Speaking as someone who knows people who started off playing English who switched over to Japanese once they got deeper into the game and realized how shitty the English meta is compared to the Japanese, you'll be saving money in the long run.

Not to mention the company themselves doesn't even care about the localized version. Pretty much every English set released has typos and required errata. The Persona set that just came out needed errata as soon as it hit shelves due to card text being incorrect.

I didn't know that existed in WS. Thanks. I guess I'll just have to play a few starter games to really "get" the game.
>>
>>116499128
There are 4 colors in the game. After level 0, you need that color somewhere in one of your damage zone to plays those cards (clock or level). Since your clock can change often, its not particularly reliable for getting colors off. Your level zone on the other hand can hold no more than 3 cards. So running 4 colors means at level 3 you have to have a card in clock with the 4th color, which can be probelmatic because that's when you are close to losing. Generally decks play any color level 0s, 1 color at level 1, 2 colors at level 2, and 2-3 colors at level 3. Obviously you can get greedier and go for 2-3 colored level 1s, but the amount of fucked you are when you whiff your requirements is huge. I generally run 2 color level 1 because I like playing the risk on the rewards.
>>
>>116498982
So you're saying that new players should just start out with the jap version

>>116499608
It's not Bushiroad's first card game after all. They do a ton of card games. It's not as deep as M:tG of course, but its got quite a bit of depth than is obvious at first glance. I thought the game was pretty uninteractive at first glance, but I realized that Magic is ridiculously interactive and is too high of a bar to set for most card games.

Ideally, yes. Find a trial deck of a series you're interested in, grab card translations for it off of a site like Little Akiba or Heart of the Cards, then go for it.

There are plenty of tutorials online if you have no clue how to play (since the Japanese manual won't help).

It'll probably help you out down the line with figuring out what other Japanese cards do if you begin to recognize what they say from the get-go.

And if you got it of a series you plan on playing, you could potentially end up re-using some of those trial deck cards for your final deck once you are more experienced and interested in building your own.

Wrong.
>>
>>116499852
I generally only play 3 different level 1s anyway (disregarding backups), so I couldn't even run 4 colors if I wanted to. If my deck had clockswapping level 0s/1s (like Dog Days) I'd totally go for 4 colors.
I mainly play Da Capo Newspaper and there are only blue and red Newspaper cards.

>>116500034
Nichiwoe is suffering.
>>
>>116500135

>>
>>116499776
How is it better? Just more cards or are you just mad because a few translation problems. Because every card game has its share of problems
>>
Is this game broken like YGO or MTG? Or is it more balanced like chess? I'm picking this up mainly to learn the rules.
>>
>>116500229
Soon. I've watched the first anime and I'm saving up to comfortably afford the VNs.
>>116500255
More cards, Bushiroad USA is a clusterfuck, you can actually win a trip to japan on the japanese side, more promos, points, etc.
>>116500274
How are YGO and MTG broken? If you're referring to combo decks (like kill in one turn/kill on the first turn) those types of decks aren't really a thing outside of theory. It's more of a resource war kind of game.
>>
>>116500255
Let's just say Bushiroad flat out said that if JP and EN cards had conflicting text, that JP card ability overrides.

>>116500274
It's much more balanced than most other card games. Series that came out 5+ years ago still are competitive.
>>
>>116500438
Some series that came out years ago are still competitive. CANAAN and some of the other early extra boosters are kind of really bad. KoF is actually a lot better than people give it credit for simply due to the salvage brainstormer and the wide variety of effects that exist.
>>
>>116500415
>YGO not broken
have you read XXXX of the Burning Abyss.
Magic at least has things to keep the combo decks in check.
>>116500274
>balanced like chess
top kek. if you want balance, play Go
>>
>>116500415
So how do tournaments and shit work? Can you actually use foreign cards?
>>
>>116500594
Foreign cards were used in that convention I attended. Can't even read that shit mang. I'm still interested in the waifus.
>>
>>116500594
I don't know of any large tournaments in the US that aren't restricted to one language or the other.

Local stores also tend to restrict based on language, in my experience. You should check with your store about their stance/preference before spending any money.
>>
>>116500594
The company that has the JP rights in the US being stupid and not selling them back to Bushiroad has kind of made it a nightmare.

Two different competitions, one for JP, one for EN.

They both have separate qualifying methods. The EN one has finals in Chicago, the JP one has NA finals in NY, then the winners of those get free trip to Japan for the grand finals.
>>
>>116500549
I did really pay attention to the YGO scene.
>>116500594
Depends on the shop you play at. Some shops support the japanese side and you can play JP Weiss there. Recently the regionals for JP Weiss Nationals were going on all around the country. If you top Xed in one of those tournaments you would get an invite to come to play at Nationals (in Rochester New York). (where X is some number based on last years attendance). If you win Nationals you go to Japan for Worlds.
>>116500693
Just memorize the translations of your cards or print them out man. Some of the sigs are beautiful on the waifu side.
>>116500763
Most stores I played at that weren't running official tournaments didn't care about language.
>>116500869

I have a Disgaea deck, have had it for months but to this very day I still don't even know how to play the game to a basic level, I just impulse bought it because I fucking love Disgaea
>>
>>116501415
The game is pretty simple, you should give it a try. Quick question though, is the trial deck in english or japanese? (English one isn't legal in english weiss, and the japanese one contains banned cards)
>>
>>116501466
The English Trial Deck is legal now.
They announced it on Facebook and I can confirm someone used it at the Atlanta regional a few weeks ago.
>>

>>
I play with a full english Bakemonogatari deck that has a few Nisemonogatari cards mixed in.

I'm probably gonna end up getting some jap decks soon.
>>
>>116501935
> implying I'm L
Maybe if customers weren't so stupid he wouldn't have to insult them.
Half of the people who play Weiss on the West Coast are liars, cheats, and/or scrubs.
>>
>>116501957
This shit is precisely why I recommend just going full JP off the get-go.

F/Z and Bakemono are basically left to die in EN because their followup boosters are long shots to be brought over. Love Live is probably going to be in a similar situation soon, since I can't imagine them bringing the other sets of that over either.
>>
What kind of deck compositions do you guys run with? Do you just use trial decks or do you customize?

I only started playing recently so I just have a slightly tweaked trial deck right now and I'm still following the deck recipe guidelines on the wiki.
>>
>>116501739
Check the comments on the Columbus OH Qualifier from June 19 on the English W/S Facebook page:

>Disgaea TD is, in fact, legal to play in Neo Showdown and there are no banned cards from this deck.
>>
>>116502185
Yeah I do also have a F/Z that's languishing for want of boosters.

I've actually had luck getting my hands on Bakemonogatari boosters though.

I want some jap decks for variety though. I have my eye on the Nichijou deck, and also Railgun S.
>>
>>116502304
I'll take your word for it, because I don't use facebook. Does that mean you're allowed to combine multiple TDs for a single deck?
>>
>>116502175
All other players in hammergirl are mediocre as well.
>>
>>116502415
You don't have to be a user to check, it's a public page. But I can't link it directly since the board thinks it's spam.

All indicators say you can combine multiple TDs.
They removed the "no Disgaea allowed" message from the website at some point and all the cards are listed same as any other series now.
>>
Is there some not shitty way to play this online?
>>
>>116502681
I'm afraid you'll have to leave your house for this.
>>
>>116502223
Knowing how to play smart is much more crucial than what deck you're running. In NA at least. Think there's been like, 3-4 modified trials which have qualified out of the JP competition to go to NY.

Probably speaks volumes about how shitty our region is, tbh.

>>116502681
It's called Skype video call or Google Hangouts.

Lackey and that other program are workable at best, but too annoying otherwise and better used as deck builders.

>>116502761
TDs are a lot better than precons in other series, because vanillas aren't bad in Weiss.
>>116502797
nisekoi is shit, overrated piece of shit. It doesn't even have any truly broken cards in it.
>>
My local store only has english card players. I don't want to have to bring translations of a whole deck
>>
>>116502761
I don't really play competitively, just with a circle of friends I meet up with a few times a month. We track our wins and losses within the group though, so it's kind of an unofficial tournament among friends.

>>116503002
I can't change people who don't listen. These people don't read the rules, and complain about it. They are scrubs in the truest sense of the word. They aren't newbies who don't know how to play.
>>116503019
Weiss is a rock-paper-scissors game. Everyone is playing rock, nisekoi happens to be paper. When people start playing scissors, itll be fine. Also almost every set has won tourneys too, but not as many, because people aren't BANDWAGONING them. I have no problem with bandwagoning, but it doesn't make a deck better if people do.
>>
>>116503029
I'm beginning to understand why L insults people. It's because his store is full of toxic garbage like you.
>>
>>116503217
Not that anon, but this isn't a childrens card game. If you can't act like an adult and follow the rules, you don't deserve to play.
>>
>>116503029
Oh, you're THAT kind of player. The kind of person that makes people leave the store when he walks in and causes the manager to sigh heavily under his breath.
>>
>>116503193
NK is a ridiculously strong deck regardless of whether or not people are bandwagoning it, I'm sure there were just as many SAO/KC players in their prime and they weren't this dominant nor did they have the ability to kill you from level 2 while cantripping out the ass

Is your argument actually "+2s can kill anything if they don't cancel"
>>
Are there any proper counters for Marika in English? All I think of is Sayaka's Wish, Tarot Reading or a hand stacked with backups.
>>
I wish they'd release a deck that just makes ALL the others completely irrelevant and unplayable.
CCGs are at their best when everyone is playing the same deck.
>>
>>116503453
KLK bounce event

regular backups won't do shit if the NK player is good and runs the Chitoge brainstorm
>>
>>116503402
Other sets can cantrip just as well, they just aren't played. The Marika only does damage, and you could play a 2 soul at level 1 to get the damage in early than the marika does at level 3. Other sets have good clockcore level 1s too. Also, marika is wortheless if it gets nothing to reverse. I also have a hard time believing that you can consitently kill from 2-4 to 3-7 with marika.

2 soul is the best climax though.
>>116503453
SAO has ridiculously high early power levels, so Marika ain't gonna run anything over.
>>
This fucking thread. Everyone needs go back to that festering shithole facebook group and stay there.

>>
>>116503107
LLSIF ENG was a near-simultaneous release with the original EN booster, yes.

I don't see them releasing the other sets, unless maybe a Love Live movie set comes out.

They seem much more keen on releasing new stuff than going back to do old stuff.

Probably highly related to licensing fees and such. Either way I doubt LL will be getting much more support. Switch to JP now, you'll get [email protected] as well.
>>
>>116503654
Name another set that has a 2/2 10.5k that cantrips into a finisher (you can't)

NK players are fully aware that Marika needs to kill something, so actual good players will leave an extremely weak/empty lane on your turn to bait out food for her (which you can't play around without losing an attack or having a toptier antidamage/character removal counter)

The 2/2 10.5k Searcher I really can't argue against, but lots of other set's have just as broken shit. 2/1 -> 3/2 Yukiko is just as good, if not better because it gets more damage early. Playing in the Creek plus Brainstormer is essentially draw 4 discard 3 for 1 stock. My big point is the Marika isn't as good as people are whining about.
