>getting DMCA'd over fair use, publicly available cover art
Open-source replacement when?
>Recent Outage Due to DMCA Request
>This news post is a bit late, but that's because we were trying to investigate and obtain responses from all the parties involved.
>Our recent downtime last week was a result of two DMCA requests. It was from an intermediary on behalf of two different companies. Unfortunately, our host did not notify us and instead disabled our IP address immediately. The most recent requests were due to displaying copyrighted cover art. As some of you have noticed, we have removed the images from some respective series pages (hopefully temporarily). We are currently in the process of looking for another host. It is unacceptable to cause severe downtime without forwarding the requests to us and allowing us to respond. It is likewise poor form by the intermediary to use such tactics without attempting to contact us directly.

That's what MU gets for caving from bullshit DMCAs in the first place. Now they look like easy prey.
This is getting more and more stupid.

It was their host apparently.
The one that is bending over is Batoto, with DMCA you always but always refute then because they have to prove it, its too easy to claim infringement and maybe it is infringement but what MU did falls under fair use, the DMCA they got was about cover images but its their fault of having bend over about links, now they got over images.
Anyone seen any of the series?

Batoto is a joke anyway. They dont have tons of series and the site loads slow as fuck.
False DMCA's are like false rape claims.
The only reason is happens is there's no punishment for getting caught.

Great going Kodansha! I guess NnT is getting pretty popular as well.
>>116096316
They don't even account for any meaningful portion of readers either.

Why would they get DMCAs if they don't even host the content? I could understand Batoto, but MangaUpdates? The fact that the affected manga and the companies which sent the DMCAs aren't identified makes this more suspicious.

Because MU encourages piracy and they don't want that.
Hopefully they'll at least be smart enough to move the site somewhere that's not the United States.
