Anyone follows Sket Dance? I think I do it just for completation sake but holy shit, the romance subplot went full retard with the whole "let's just pretend is nothing" chapter
. Fuck.

We just had a 2 1/2 day slow manga thread, don't be stupid by making another 24/7 one.

would be nice if we could have separate threads for different series like weekly anime does instead of lumping it into one giant thread just to stay up

the humor in the manga didn't strike me at all. It felt really bad for me at least. It was completely unenjoyable experience.

Worth another punt?

then all discussion on /a/ shouldn't be posted unless its the air date of weekly anime as well?

Also, RIP boxing manga with a waifu who got fat and actually stays fat.

Japan really didn't like the series all that much.

What's worse is that Major is not even completely translated.

For starters, 24/7 generals aren't allowed. See the whole monster girl fiasco.

I really miss Kingdom threads, the war arc was beyond glorious but there has been barely any discussion since then. It seems like something big is boiling with the creation of Ai so I hope to see new threads in a couple of months.
>>
>>116036720

>And still we see Shingeki thread #3213

There's a report button for that. I just don't want manga threads, of all things, to be ruined by people who don't understand why they shouldn't be forced 24/7.

I caught up with the translation for 7Seeds, I was behind a decent number of chapters but read them all last night. I'm really glad it looks like the mangaka is going to give more development to some of the background characters that aren't in the main groups.
>>
>>116036644
Monster girl threads were trash, I'm glad they're gone.
>>
>>116036861
in case you didn't know, this isn't a single manga series but entire subtext of a board shoved into a thread because individual threads other than more popular manga cannot possibly survive.

You are forgetting why general threads were frowned upon on first place and are blinding just hating the fact there exists a discussion thread! There are shittons of different manga titles out there that would otherwise never survive on /a/ board.
>>
>>116036907
7seeds is the kind of manga I see pop up every now and then in the update list for years and I just think "maybe later"
How is it?
>>
>>116037093

>>
>>116037093
I put it off for a long time, I tried to read it after finishing Basara and couldn't get into it because the main characters were so awkward. But I guess it's supposed to be like that because over the course of the series they all change a lot. None of it is forced either, it's a matter of them realizing how they need to adapt to the new world and bonding with each people they'd never interact with otherwise. It's a good series if you really want to root for the characters and hope they accomplish what they need to do.

That's pretty much how I feel. "Oh I have nothing to read" then I'll look around a little, add 5 things to my backlog, and at least 1-2 of them I end up really enjoying. 1-2 more I'll end up liking enough to finish. Then I usually drop 1.

Making my way through Jojo, currently finishing Part 5.
To be honest I don't like it nearly as much as Part 4, the characters aren't nearly as interesting and the pacing is too fight-of-the-week. Cool stand ideas though, it's kind of like Stardust Crusaders done better.
The scans don't help much.

A lot of characters are on or heading to a single island that had a group of scientists living their in the past, and iirc it also had the town the twin girls were from. There's also a ton of insects on it though. Some of the characters are lost in underground caverns but a few were just introduced to each other, like Ran meeting Botan and Chimaki for the first time.

Also, not manga but some anon yesterday suggested a korean reality TV show called the Genius and its basically Kaiji but in reality tv form and with 12 protagonists instead of 1. I kid you not, the very first episode has the exact same rock, paper, scissors game that was in Kaiji. Give it a try.

Finished second to last nook of Blade of the Immortal. I know how the whole thign ends, but considering that one of the themes is that 'Revenge is Pointless' would it be more appropriate ifAnostu kills Rin? Instead of letting her stab him, he disarms her and insta kills her before getting finished off my Manji. I think this would drive home the point that revenge is destructive and pointless. Why Anostu did set his men loose to rape Rin's mother, she and Manji finished off the ones who actually did it and thus could have turned away

The fact that we get releases doesn't mean they'll be always available. That's why we have Cons, to find old oop manga, unfortunately we too have been infected with the cosplay virus. I think Crows comes close to it, its way more serious than it is funny, it has very few comedic moments. Just my opinion but I wouldn't even advise them, or at least I ended Crows with a bittersweet taste exactly because of that, seeing a bunch of 15 years old in overly dramatic situations and being all serious and shit its just too stupid and annoying, just doesn't feel realistic. Would love to read one that can be serious without being too ridiculous tho, can imagine might be difficult to achieve tho.

Are there manga awards? I imagine there are but never see them being mentioned or being that much of a big deal, what would be the most prestigious award a manga could get?
>>
>>116084083

>Are there manga awards?

Are you fucking serious? There's a tag on MU just for that.

>>116084083
There are manga awards, but I don't trust them at all. Bleach and Fairy Tail are award-winning works.
>>
>>116084276
In the shonen category. The overall winner is usually much more noteworthy. The general winner that year was Medical Dragon, which I at least wouldn't write off.
>>
>>116084500
Also, when something has been running for a short period of time, you don't really have as much grounds to call it shit. Bleach was only 3 years old at that point.

It's basically a hunting/living off the land manga. Each chapter focuses on one of the game he hunts. You would have to find someone that is more interested in those things to translate. It's not bad, but it's very outdoors-man, so that is a hurdle to finding someone who would like it enough to TL.

Hah, so it wasn't just strictly host problems:

>Recent Outage Due to DMCA Request

>This news post is a bit late, but that's because we were trying to investigate and obtain responses from all the parties involved.

>Our recent downtime last week was a result of two DMCA requests. It was from an intermediary on behalf of two different companies. Unfortunately, our host did not notify us and instead disabled our IP address immediately. The most recent requests were due to displaying copyrighted cover art. As some of you have noticed, we have removed the images from some respective series pages (hopefully temporarily). We are currently in the process of looking for another host. It is unacceptable to cause severe downtime without forwarding the requests to us and allowing us to respond. It is likewise poor form by the intermediary to use such tactics without attempting to contact us directly.

>Thank you, MU Staff

Attacking cover art? Seems to be blatantly attacking fair use.
>>
>>116095795

And to think, some faggots were claiming that we shouldn't have to panic about MU going down. DMCA over cover art? Fucking pathetic. They're chipping away at MU with whatever they can get away with to make it further DMCAs easier. Someone really should make a replacement.
>>

>>
>>116095895

>site would be better

Agreed, Woxxy is involved in a replacement but that's probably vaporware

>no torrent

Who the fuck knows, they probably gave up because they think the FTP will last forever (MT all over again someday). FTP admin can't make torrents, either, because his server isn't large enough and bandwidth would probably be expensive.

Problem is that it's only sold in Luis Vuitton boutiques. Maybe only in the Venetian one (although I don't think so).
It doesn't even cost so much, should be around 40, 45 euro.

Chisakobee isn't even written by Mochizuki.
>>116118584
Why?
>>
>>116118692

Yes... it's not written by him because it's a modern adaptation of an older novel.

Ed from Vertical said that Tokyo Kaido was getting worked on, but they haven't officially announced anything, so I don't know what exactly he meant by working on it.

As for the plot summary you gave, it doesn't sound that interesting compared to some of his other stuff?

Probably referring to the fact that they were sucking the Japanese publisher for the license.

Damn, I love Dragon Head. I'm buying the new Italian edition.
>>
>>116119741

Yes, obviously not everyone is American, but if there's an English publication, then normally people would buy that, and most groups would avoid it because it's licensed.

Vertical's parent company is Kodansha. There isn't really too much sucking needed if your parent company already has the license.
>>
>>116119928
Oh, it doesn't work like that here, local publishers make deals with multiple Japanese publishers. There's loyalization (with both publishers and authors) but that's different.

Just started Dorohedoro. Liking it a lot of far. The art is pretty, well...I like it but I doubt an art instructor would think much of it. It's got this raw quality though that makes up for everything.

Everyone being goofy goobers underneath their MURDERKILLDEATH masks helps too.
>>
>>116131179
Gantz was basically impossible for me to read during the last arc. I dropped it for like a year before convincing myself to finish it. But it had some redeemable features, and despite the shit pile, it was entertaining with wrestling dinosaurs and statues with laser beams.
>>
>>116131200
I don't get why people look down on Dorohedoro's art, is absolutely stunning, even if its messy the amount of detail it has is easily above most manga.

>>116131384

A lot of people like minimalistic art.
>>
>>116131384
I just mean on a technical level. PERSONALLY, I love it. It's got this great feel that's totally unique.

It's just that thinking back on various art classes I've taken, Dorohedoro is the kind of thing that would've given a lot of my teachers heart attacks, and I don't mean because of the subject matter.

But then I also think early Part 1 JoJo looks great.

Cool seme, sickly uke, protective older brother that's not actually related to the piece of shit uke, who unsurprisingly has loved the uke the whole time... Fuck yaoi. The few exemplary authors that exist do not make up for massive amounts of cliche, badly drawn shit and the insufferable fangirls.

But why thought? What were your teachers like man? I mean, proportions are good, perspective as well, use of colour, it just has a messy style. I wouldn't really like teachers that forced me to do clean lines as if that was the proper way, if that's what you mean.

That is what I mean, really. The kind of instructors who stress proportion and depth and consistency.

>>116132972
Not that guy, but you are very confrontational. Also realize he's only read two volumes, and her art was still developing around that time. We're all volumes ahead of him where her art is phenomenal and technically impressive.

Calm down.
>>
>>116132972
Ever attended an art class or cracked open an art book? Q's messy, sketchy, chaotic style is exactly the sort of thing a traditional art education would balk at. And it's great. Her style, I mean. But they'd still balk at it. Back in college I had a friend, hardcore art student, who was always sketching and drawing his own comics. I'd watch him draw sometimes, or ask him about technique. He was all about form and perspective and realistic proportions and blah blah blah. If I'd have shown him Dorohedoro, he would have called it amateurish. He would have.

But hey, you know what? A lot of great artists just do what they want. A lot of Pablo Picasso's pieces look utterly bizarre, yet are highly valued for other aspects at which they excel. That said, people still encounter his work with the idea of "traditional, technical" artistry in mind.

Dorohedoro's art is good, but in a way that breaks away from the crisp, "Clean" as one anon put it, sensibilities we tend to hold as the default.
>>
>>116133644
Well, that's why art classes are for. You learn the bases, techniques and stuff and once you've mastered them, you develop our own style and can forget (or not) about them.

>>116133644
I think you've just attended some shitty art classes or simply didn't understand the point of them. When you begin with that type of stuff its normal that it'll be all about realism, realistic perspective and proportions, fi you can't learn those then you can't go about giving them your own style properly like Dorohedoro's.

Q manages good perspective, proportions and consistency, I doubt any art teacher would disagree with that, the fact that it is realistic or not doesn't matter, you begin there but that's all. I know you're not shitting on Q's art, I just think you really got it wrong with art teachers or simply met some shitty ones.
