I caught up with the translation for 7Seeds, I was behind a decent number of chapters but read them all last night. I'm really glad it looks like the mangaka is going to give more development to some of the background characters that aren't in the main groups.

I put it off for a long time, I tried to read it after finishing Basara and couldn't get into it because the main characters were so awkward. But I guess it's supposed to be like that because over the course of the series they all change a lot. None of it is forced either, it's a matter of them realizing how they need to adapt to the new world and bonding with each people they'd never interact with otherwise. It's a good series if you really want to root for the characters and hope they accomplish what they need to do.

To be honest I don't like it nearly as much as Part 4, the characters aren't nearly as interesting and the pacing is too fight-of-the-week. Cool stand ideas though, it's kind of like Stardust Crusaders done better.

Anyone besides myself enjoying 7 Seeds? I know there must be some anons here who've read it. If not I recommend it if you enjoy stuff like Fallout. The artwork can be a bit jarring but the story is gripping enough to keep you entertained.

Battle Royale was definitely the roughest but it was also shit. Litchi Hikari Club and Dorohedoro also but they're a fun kind of brutal. I also started reading Apocalypse Zero and that one has some graphic stuff but the art is very amateur, it's amazing how much better Shigurui and Exoskull Zero look in comparison.

I think Crows comes close to it, its way more serious than it is funny, it has very few comedic moments. Just my opinion but I wouldn't even advise them, or at least I ended Crows with a bittersweet taste exactly because of that, seeing a bunch of 15 years old in overly dramatic situations and being all serious and shit its just too stupid and annoying, just doesn't feel realistic. True, that's definitely a strong deterrent. The chapters are only 8 pages each though, so it could make for a good open project like what I think is/was being done with Ika Musume.

Looking at the past winners, the Kodansha manga award is pretty terrible. That said, Taiyou no Ie is great.
