Scanned in this Kill Me Baby doujin yesterday, currently editing it, first time doing anything else than translating.

What are you currently working on?

Also, does anyone have an idea how to fix stuff like in pic related?
>>
>>115802646
The brush tool you dumb nigger. Also learn how to sharpen and level, your shit is too sharpened it looks awful.
>>
>>115802919

It does fairly look like ass.

What scanlations are you waiting on?
>>
the fuck did you two-tone it? use greyscale!
>>
>>115803164
I scanned it in on greyscale...

>>115802919
will do
>>
>>115803286
>I scanned it in on greyscale...
shit looks two-tone. like something xeroxed.
personally I scan in color & convert to greyscale, in shop. gives me better results than scanning in grey.
>>
>>115803416
I'll make sure to do that next time.

Any other tips you can give?
>>
>>115803536
place e a black sheet of construction paper behind the page to eliminate page bleeding.
in shop ctrl+l to adjust b&w levels, but back them slightly back before absolute solid black. as it tends to bleed too far into fine details.
>>
>>115803671
I just ran my pages through the auto document feeder. Only scanned the cover and one page which the ADF constantly fucked up on individually.

I've been doing that stuff with the levels, though judging by the feedback, I've been doing something wrong?
>>
>>115803763
over saturated the white level, killing off too much of the grey would be my guess
>>
This looks like scanned in BW mode or something.
>>
>>115802568
My eyes. That is going to be painful to read. Make it softer.
Also post a raw page so some cleaners will have a play with it and show you what you are doing wrong.

Inside scanlation has a bunch links to guides, it's what I've been referring to
>>
What's a good ADF scanner?
>>
>>115804399
Just guides and such, I guess. There's some random things here and there I've translated here on /a/ with the help with /a/non typesets so I just deiced I'd like to do it myself if I could to save time.

>>115804407

I did this very quickly at is not perfect. It shows you what you can achieve with just a bit of diffusion and surface blur. It still needs some attention. I would offer to it if I wasn't already the cleaner of a major project.

The sky is fucked up but I had two minutes, it can be fixed manually with a bit of dodge. I did it because the lines are softer and it is easier on the eye, it's more pleasant to look at. Google diffusion, softening and threshold. The 8-bit greyscale format is capable of displaying 256 greys, don't be faggot, use all of them.

>>115805355
Stop using CSlive. Go and download PSCC or CS6. Don't bother with GIMP. Also get Topaz, I rarely use it but it you might want to. Your machine will need to be fairly powerful to handle it all. I use a quadcore, dual GPU and 32mb of RAM.

What are you, from 2000? This scan can be cleaned even with simple leveling, not to mention a little more advanced stuff. Moire is here to stay, since scaner is shit, and he seems didn't put something black at the other side of page when scanning, but it's not that bad and can be somewhat deluded while downscaling.
>>
>>115805893

>>
>>115806417
First of all, I'm not him, and second of all, if it takes you more than five seconds to level, you're doing something horribly wrong.
>>
>>115806018
Over levelled. Too sharp. I'm guessing the original had tone in Agiri's eyes?

>>115806072
It can be fixed. Duplicate the layer, then fade it to exclusion and bring down the opacity until you can clearly see the layer below. Open up the levelling window and adjust the black level until the page begins to turn white, it will bring out the bleed through and also the line where the auto feeder fucked up will clearly be visable. You can then correct it with the marquee tool.
>>
I wish there were some more modern tutorials, but at least the old ones cover core concepts. You pretty much have to ask around for any new techniques, though.
>>
>>115805995
Too many variables to answer properly. It can be caner fault (especially with CIS matrix, like all-in-one or super-slim models), it can be software fault (either because it shit or you did something wrong with it), it can be because other side of page is see-trough (that's why you need unbind and put something black at top of the page when scanning), etc.
And honestly I'm not a expert on it either, and don't have software installed and scanner connected now.

I want to be a cleaner, but I'd also like to get my monitor color-calibrated first. How do you confirm that you're seeing the same color as someone else? Ask them to eyedrop it and give you the hex?
>>
>>115806692

I have moire trouble with color pages (no bleeding, no filters or descreening) at 600 dpi or higher.

If you're that worried about it, get a second hand Trinitron. Trinitrons are /g/ approved CRTs. Sony still make them for professional broadcasting. More information on the colour accuracy of CRTs, the difference between Trinitron displays and Shadow Mask displays can be found by using google.

I'm clean scanlations now and then just to read them. As re-save in png. Though, sometimes it's impossible to clean/fix with actions alone, like those in Kyuusen no Shima (different pages have different leveling), or LasBoss X Hero (scans have resolution jumping from 2000 to 1200), and I don't what to spoiler everything or literally re-cleaning and re-typing everything...
