Flaws or not. I am actually somewhat interested in Cross Ange on its own merits. Not a for it being a supposed "trainwreck" mess, or a "social justice catastrophe", but because no matter its flaws I still find it interesting.

Angelise caught me off guard. I did not expect the show to be so straight faced with how inhumane the monarchy, including its princess was, and by extension their society at large.
When the show then took Angelise as being a Norma herself, and took this development seriously, not just glazing over it. I was pleasantly surprised again.

And while they have only been in one episode so far, I was a bit impressed the rest of the Norma got enough focus to showcase distinct personalities each, even when balancing screentime among eachother.

By no means a master piece or an extraordinarily spectacular show. But I am really thinking the show looks interesting enough for me to like it on its own merits. Kind of makes me wish this social justice shit had never laid its eyes on the show, and I also guess just about anything has got to be "epic trainwrecks" nowadays.

A show has to have several episodes of good content and promise followed by a slippery slope of retardese, asspulls, inconsistencies and overall completely idiotic storytelling before it can be labelled as a trainwreck. Geass, Flamenco, Vulvarape kinda; those are trainwrecks, hell if you look up trainwreck anime the FIRST result is Flamenco.


If you like the show then just say you like the show, no need to say "OH NO! IT'S JUST A TRAINWRECK! THAT'S WHY I'M WATCHING IT" because if you're calling it that from the first episode than it aint no trainwreck.

Is it named "Cross" Ange because Ange is being cross-trained into a new lifestyle and purpose as a 3rd class citizen? As far as the first two episodes go, I've thoroughly enjoyed both of them. They are entertaining, keep a good pace, avoid filler, and have good seques with multiple-interleaved subplots going on. Having multiple subplots means the scriptwriter, animation supervisor, and director were all involved thru the whole design process before animation production began. That means early on a reasonable budget was alloted in expectations of implementing a tightly controlled screenplay.

The animation is crisp and I like how the animation staff is aware of jitter and tries to avoid long jittery pans. I didn't try to count the number of actual different frames of animation used per second, but this show felt like the number of frames varied as needed to maintain smoothness. A lot of other anime shows simply kept the same number of frames and would become more jittery or have to skip frames during trivial things such as pushing (example: shiro at school cafeteria in ep02 fate/stay night unlimited blade works) or important thing such as explosions (ex: one piece due to toei's cheapness).

No, you didn't misunderstand. But your understanding and normal logic is _overridden_ by any of the marketing departments of the individual production committee members. For character goods to sell, it is important to have her good looks be maintained. It's also important that main chars not actually be convicted of a crime like desertion since that would trash that char's marketing and licensing opportunities. Thus, logic and plot are of less importance than the needs of marketing.

It's bad enough that they fly in open cockpits without adequate face shields or goggles to protect the eye surfaces from dust, debri, and windburn. Moreover, the wind chill factor at their speeds should cause immediate problems. However, it looks grand having them fly in open cockpits as well as making toys that can accommodate posable figures in an open display.

Picture: windshield as shown is worse than having no shield. It would rip her headgear right off her face or shove its sharp points into her neck. However, it looks good for marketing purposes.
