The large scale battles are really cool, but the real life stuff is bland and self insert to a degree I haven't seen for a couple months. I was going to say longer, but Mahouka is about the same amount of obvious self inserting.
The worst part is obviously how the author goes out of his way all constantly to say that Weed does stuff in game that no one else would do, even going as far as saying stuff like, "Would you do this? No, you wouldn't." Hardcore grinding and greed is nothing new to MMO players, and I know plenty of people that would and have grinded just as hard as Weed has (including myself), regardless of how super special awesomesauce the author thinks that makes his Gary Stu.

I've read like 80 chapters of Tower of God and I didn't like it. I mean the art is pretty decent but the MCs is one of the most dull ones I've ever seen.

I've had Shin Angyo Onshi in my backlog for like four years now but I like waiting with series which looks like they could be great (apart from ongoing ones) and watching them when I'm in a good mood for it. After six years I haven't watched Cowboy Bebop yet either, but that's mostly because I'm being turned off from seeing all the vermin acting retarded about it.

The major problem is that the majority of those novels aren't translated for a reason. People literally cannot self-insert themselves as those who struggle to live after each battle and won't translate it, because of the fact that normal people can't get into it.
A great example would be Dark Mage (the one where there's a shitty rendition of a manhwa) and Red Destiny. I have them, but they're in Korean.
An example that still retains the notion of a self-insert but doesn't have crazy asspulls would be Haroon. This is pretty fun because it starts as a VRMMOLN but ends as a Sci-fi Fantasy LN.
Other LNs literally state from the start that the MC will be broken as fuck and and then from there he becomes even stronger and eventually become a god or something.
There are logical novels as well as illogical self-inserting ones, I'd say most are logical, but never make it through the translation scene.

IIRC, they were testing how healing magic and the conservation of mass worked by chopping off the soldier's limbs, feeding said limbs back to the soldier, and then seeing if the soldier would starve to death.

What's more, one of the soldiers gets randomly selected as the guy doing the chopping while another one gets to be the experimental subject.

So yeah, Momonga can't really be called sane by human standards. Of course, the Floor Guardians even exceed Momonga with things like Demiurge's plans for a rape-cave and things like that.

I was only reading it for the statues he places around. I enjoy a healthy dose of guilty pleasure, but this was just not the pleasurable kind. Everything else is blatant and embarrassing wish-fulfillment.

There are plenty enough of wish-fulfillment novels in English if that's really your thing, and even the bad ones will at least not have the same awkward language you'll get from JPN-to-ENG translations.

Start with a decent english web novel with a healthy dose of wish-fulfillment (starts slow until the time looping though, but I can see it being a decent young adult novel once the rough parts are edited), then move on to real books.

The Mother of Learning he recommended is a pretty good match for people's taste here. It gets passed around the Mushoku Tensei threads often.

You get the annoying little sister which ends up being a very lovable character later on, and pretty cool sapient monsters (the spiders), plus everything within the loops connect pretty well. The magic theory was nice too and somewhat grounded in reality to describe it in an odd manner. The author is croatian though, so there are indeed some rough areas that could use an editor, but nothing to the extent of how stupid the LN sound in english (i.e. ufufufufu).
