Monster is better in my opinion

Recently finished that series. I loved it and all, but best? It was legitimately great from the beginning, but around half way point the story gradually became shittier and the fucker kept adding too much shit in instead of resolving things. Last part's writing was pretty bad and 21CB was god awful. Still a must read though.

There's no such thing as "objectively good" or whatever vague bullshit you like to use.
It's all fucking opinions, what is good and what is not, based on how do you enjoy something or not, even if you will put some criteria for what good is supposed to be, it's still a fucking opinion.
Favorite=best, because that's what people enjoy more then anything else, not because it's supposed to be objectively good or whatever.
Also, different things have different values, you can't compare something like adventure/action movie with thriller and call one of the "best" as if it's actually being better than another, which is why there's no fucking thing as best manga/best movie or whatever, fucking opinions, all of it.

But if you recommend people you try to recommend them something which is as "objectively" good as it gets. I know this is completly stupid, but some people like me can actually non-ironically enjoy a show, which they know has very flawed writing If someone new would visit /a/ for the first time they'd think such people do not exist and apparently almost every show this imperfect writing is shit. For example I like Mirai Nikki, because I found it entertaining, but It'd never even cross my mind that it's flawless, because let's be honest, it's flawed as fuck.

You cannot be objective, it's impossible. But you can have a subjective opinion of something's artistic worth, value, quality etc, regardless of your own personal enjoyement of it.

I personally disliked haibane renmei, especially the end, but I think, based of my own criteria and subjective opinion of what makes a good anime, that it's a very good anime with only flaw it's overly dramatic ending. Get it?
