When are we gonna see a Vaporwave anime?
is it ironically retro and intentionally terrible?
Because there's a big difference between vaporwave and just retro.
People who listen to vaporwave actually despise the 80s and 90s, they cherrypick what they find the most ridiculous about them and attempt to create an aesthetic that's as repulsive as possible while still retaining residual traces of their appeal.
>Is it ironically retro and intentionally terrible
There's no way you can accidentally make something that terrible and the maker of the show hates modern anime, I'd say it fits the bill.
School us on what actually is vaporwave, then, genius.
No, because it can't exist unless an incredibly bitter and uninformed director decides to make a parody of old anime so that he can sound deep without actually investing efforts into it.
That'd be pretty hard to come across.
well there you have it
There are people still stuck on this vaporwave fad? In 2014?
>People who listen to vaporwave actually despise the 80s and 90s
Speak for yourself.
Because it's not a fad - it's lasted long enough to be considered legitimate. It was always an offshoot of plunderphonics, which is well-recognized already anyway. People calling it a fad are just complaining about how a "new" kind of music they don't like is getting popular.
The fuck is "retrowave"?
Sounds like Kavinsky. I was never much of a fan of that stuff, but I do love Com Truise. I guess they're what you'd call "retrowave" too?
Isn't vaporwave just late 90's music, cut-up and slowed down and given the veneer of late 90's computer and internet culture?
It's a variation on plunderphonics, which is music made up entirely of samples. It focuses on funk, soul, and synth-pop, generally from the '80s and a bit into the '90s. The aesthetic is maybe more '90s-influenced while the music is more '80s-based. So other than the "'90s music" bit, >>114683633 is generally right.
Not exactly vaporwave, but some people consider Oneohtrix Point Never to be so - he's going to score Koji Morimoto's "Magnetic Rose".
Unless they're going to talk about Huey Louis and the News, trips have spoken.
There are an awful lot of /mu/tants on /a/, you'd be surprised. Besides, vaporwave's aesthetic is hugely anime-influenced, so it's not totally leftfield to have a discussion about it here.
uh, no, it's not hugely anime-influenced, it just loosely exploits the most superficial aspects of 90s anime imagery.
Vaporwave is to anime what Zebra Katz is to the order of the nine angles.
Macross is alright. Certainly better than Saint Pepsi. VHS Logos is really great, though - Mantra is one of the best vaporwave albums out there.
>it just loosely exploits the most superficial aspects of 90s anime imagery
In other words, it's influenced by anime.
>In other words, it's influenced by anime.
that's not how influences work. being influenced means that you're passive, that you merely receive a language from somewhere else. And while it's true that vaporwave artists rarely go through the effort of actually researching their source material in depth, it's also true that they actively go out and look for it themselves because they think it serves their purposes. If you come looking for it, it can't be an influence.
But that's wrong. And 99% of lolicore is generic garbage. Goreshit was a genius, though. Pic related is the best lolicore release ever. Nekophiliac is good too.
I don't think anime is self-aware and depressed enough to be vaporwave. A vaporwave anime would be like, the most self loathing harem anime ever, interspersed with random color shifts and sound fuckery, and the whole thing looks like it was recorded from VHS.
vaporwave isn't supposed to be good. See, they have this "accelerationism" thing going on. Basically, by making shitty music, they think that they can speed up the degeneration of western culture to the point where it will collapse within our lifetime and a healthier culture can take its place.
Not sure if you're trolling, but anyone liking Death Grips legitimately has something wrong with them. It sounds like a strung out crackhead stumbling through garbage cans trying to find their next fix. Death Grips is basically like black Weezer.
And at the end, everyone kills themselves, like this.
Actually School Days might work.
Why are music fags such pretentious cunts that they need a genre name for every fucking artist. Trying to keep track of genres in music gives me a fucking headache.
Whoops, didn't see that.
>tfw I found I love MACROSS just in time for /mu/ to start shit talking the genre.
This thread has, by far, the most disgusting hipster ideological garbage, I've ever seen gathered in one thread.
The pretension is so thick I could cut it with a knife if I had a mind too.
MACROSS 82-99 is the SHIT. My fucking lord. Him and Saint Pepsi are fucking gods.
