To which Tomino said "don't ask me, ask Regild Century historians".

It is pretty clear Tomino is deliberately not focusing on how UC ended, because it isn't the fault of the FINAL generation of UC citizens that their era ended so badly. It was the combined fuckups of everyone in UC that repeated WW2 and Space Nazis every generation for centuries until everyone died. You can't blame the last few UC soldiers for the mess previous generations left behind.
