The fleets in LoGH always turn me on.
I just started LoGH and the space fights piss me off so much, I don't know if they'll adress the technological side later on but right now it seems to aim for a somewhat realistic approach. This is not how any of this works, you don't just show up behind your enemy without being seen, you don't blow up an entire fleet without noticing the emitted light and particles from all the engines exploding.
The space combat in LoGH is meant to be reminiscent of the old line battles of the 17th-19th centuries. Don't take it too seriously.
Keep in mind: the plot forces them to do battle in corridors of space that will destroy them for nonsense reasons if they attempt to use the third dimension...
I know, this is a space opera after all, I am enjoying it so far, don't get me wrong, but as a hard sci fi fan it still rubs me the wrong way.
please explain yourself
>as a hard sci fi fan it still rubs me the wrong way
I'm with you man, it's kind of hard to ignore the stupid shit in it
>please explain yourself
Assume for a moment that particles traveling at FTL is a real possibility.
People find out about this either by accident (discovering such particles) or by researching a theory that allows them to force particles to behave in this manner. If the former is the case, then they will only have to look out for particles that are moving at FTL anyway to gain FTL observation.
If the latter is the case then it is a question of how much you wish to move. A spaceship? Radiation or something very insubstantial (that might reflect of matter, and in effect be used like sonar)? Or swarms of mini-drones as seen used by Nagato in the Haruhi anime?
The script was written in like the 50's.
If you can't suspend disbelief on a few things, logh is gonna be a long, painful series.
Valkyria Chronicles has some really sexy weapons design. I like the concept of anti-tank lances, but I have no idea if it would work in real life.
Crazy tank designs were great too, like the Batomys, Marmota and Echidna.
Too bad Sega turned the franchise to shit.
>no idea if it would work in real life
Depends on whether you consider survival a priority.
That's rather interesting, thanks anon.
I think so, but you only get one shot with the suicide mine. You can take another bazooka shot if the first wasn't enough and you're still alive, which is actually possible.
this is mine probably
Buy the artbook, anon. Especially the one for Valkyria Chronicles 3. WOrth every penny. Have two pages.
I wish Raita would do more war shit.
ERA, you say? How about mechs wearing ERA vests?
Nothing better than a big bad super villain being destroyed by millitary might instead of the power of friendship
I think I have to change my initial statement a bit, it depends on what type of ftl travel is used. You're describing one way, by changing existing particles into a new form, you're able to detect them before completing a ftl drive, otherwise you won't be able to develop it anyway. The other method is by entering a nother dimension, I think you shouldn't be able to interact(or detect traveling ships) with it because you're breaking the laws of physics this way. Detecting ships leave and enter those dimensions should work though, you still can't get ambushed unless they drop out next to you which is a horrible way to fight.
The Foundation Series was written in the 50's too and it still holds up well, age is not the issue. But I thought human interaction was the focus anyway, so disliking the space battles shouldn't be a problem
Google works for me, but you guessed right anyway.
If you're using 4chanX, I suggest you add a few additional google reverse search buttons, to allow you to search for the thumbnail and possibly on other google servers as well. (Japanese google, English google, possibly your native google)
Nah man, you're just gonna get more skeletal famine survivors with huge boobs.
Riela was the last good design from him.
Why is Cpt. Varrot so moe?
Yeah, Patlabor is pretty great when it comes to realistic usage scenarios when it comes to mecha.
>Nah man, you're just gonna get more skeletal famine survivors with huge boobs
I don't see the problem with that
The first is just a grammar error, the second is a grammar error combined with a mistranslation which, out of pure coincidence, could mean they are driving their vehicle onto some container instead of that they are driving on top of their vehicle.
The novels are from the 80s, are they based on something else even older ?
Cruel mindset you have there buddy, Democracy was invented centuries before christ and the very first steam based machines are from this era as well (except people didn't take interest in it).
Good ideas and progress aren't always following a straight line and you can overlook a lot of good stuff if you think like that.
Now don't blame its age, but blame the writer because even gundam has a valid explanation for why giant ships go unnoticed in space and why is there no internet (or any communication that doesn't look outdated).
>Being this guy
Patlabor is excellent about this stuff. Labors are extremely lightly armored and entirely inappropriate for most frontline combat usage, in fact the second movie opens with a UN team getting wrecked because they were being used like MBTs. Their main usage comes in construction work and the series follows a police team employing them.
> Das Spiel der Mädchen,
> die ihre Heimat beschützen wollten,
> und auf Panzer fuhren.
The last line is really weird, but every german sentence gets butcherd in anime anyway.
No idea, nothing to do with any of the series. The show is actually about a police unit that uses labors, but we do occasionally see the JGSDF labor unit that they have a rivalry with. Second movie features the most military hardware.
Absolute top-tier series, a must watch if you have even a passing interest in mecha.
To be honest I personally find the first movie more entertaining, a little heavier on the action and lighter on the Oshii directing in circles on philosophical topics. And of course there's two OVA series and a TV series, all of which are outstanding the whole way through.
And the in-progress live action sequel series
Get a load of these war assets.
The cherry blossom kamikaze.
Thought these were pretty cool.
to be fair, there's an episode of a rogue combat labor which fucking wrecks shit and can't be taken out by (limited) military attempts to take it out and is only stopped by another labor.
Argevollen has been doing a rather fine job at portraying adequate combined use of mechs (save the disbelief-suspending knifefights), tanks, artillery (which is accurately portraied as one motherfucking scary death machine), and infantry.
P.S: The show's setting doesn't include any flying technology. Kinda the opposite of Pilot's Song in that regard.
Thanks you for making /a/ a little worse. Faggot.
While /a/ is mad about spoonfeeding sora no woto
I found it on my own and I'm half into episode one and it's too fucking moe holy shit. Does it get any better and less moe or will it continue to be cute girls in uniform do cute things.
Why is there no anime about cute militiamen fighting in Ukrainia?
France strong, russia is finished.
Feet need to be flat for it to be a proper squat.
Wait. With "France strong, russia is finished" you're suggesting that France is anti-russia. But on your picture those men are holding russian equipment and wearing black-orange ribbons, that strongly suggests that they're russian, or at least very pro-russian. Why they're posing with french flag? What?
>those bubbing barrels
Why can't I get all those hard cocks out of my mind?
>both sides walk to an open field in massed formations to face each other off, I mean fucking really
>spider tanks does a little shooting on its way there killing friendlies
>stop fighting faggots
Pride of the country
Feared weapon of mass destruction
At least it's not a giant robot.
>don't know if they'll adress the technological side later on
They won't. It's a space opera, not a sci fi. Think Star Wars, not Forever War. The tech stuff takes a serious backseat to the characters and the setting.
So yeah, if you're watching for the thorough explanation of military or technological aspects you'll be really disappointed. It's not the point of the show.
Have you ever woken up and you just knew it was going to be a really shitty day?
poor germans. Not having the correct ammount of ammo. running out mid battle. Retard Hitler not wanting to send tanks in to help
so many things piled up on one shitty day.
>tfw ship look great, but girl ver look shit
Masterpiece of a game, shitty anime adaptation.
Also, the artbook for the first game is absolutely amazing, buy that shit.
>spaceship has a built-in wave motion gun
>pic related are still designated as main cannon 1 & 2
I actually liked some of the girls. I mean sure, the models could use some work. But i wouldn't call them shit.
Manga versions are better though.
Mortars are love.
The French are great guys.
>few bad choices
HE FUCKING INVADED RUSSIA AND GOT FUCKED BY thE WEATHER JUST LIKE THE FRENCH MIDGETS DID DECADES BEFORE
YET HE WAS STUPID AND WENT AHEAD BECAUSE HE WAS A FUCKING CRAZY LE
They're holding the wrong flag, aren't they
But the second had them sexy gunships
>there is always a unified earth military
>there is also another political entity in space
>earth's military is low tech but makes up for it in numbers
>space military is always highly advanced
>earth military will build a super sekrit weapon
>that weapon in question will travel around the world and eventually in space and sometimes comes back to earth only to go back to space again
>during the final epic battle the unified earth military will all converge in a certain location like a super asteroid or fortress in enemy territory
>the space military gets destroyed utterly
>if there will be a sequel it deals with stragglers of the space people and their military
>the unified earth military will always go corrupt and be the antagonists
>they form a third faction and sometimes both sides will join in
everytime, fuck this planet
Does this turn you on?
>There will never be CIWS in an anime.
The second definitely takes the philosophising further, but they both follow the same formula of big initial action sequence, then lots of talking and politics, then a big finishing action sequence.
funny, this doesn't google search using the technique described above using the arrow-link
must be that google has yet to create a database from weeks of user input of similar screenshots linked to text-and-images web sites that a lot search engine protocols use!
Anime would be so much more entertaining if they actually used combined arms in military scenes.
I know GuP isn't that kind of show, but hell, is it that hard showing some tow launchers or atgms doing shit for once? I mean there is a reason they are so heavily used.
I love me some Leiji Matsumoto, but holy shit was The Cockpit retarded propaganda.
>Germans save the world from getting nuked.
>Ohka shown destroying a carrier despite having a K/D of 3/800-something
>Americans shown flying captured Japanese planes to launch sneak attacks on infantry.
Have you tried MS Igloo 2's guntank episode?
>GMs and Type 61s advancing against combined Magellans and Zakus
>Supporting fire from land battleships
>Feddie fighters intercepting Zeke airdrop operations
>Zeon land battlleship artillery stopping the advance cold followed by a counterattack from behind the smoke
>Observation planes launched to find the mobile Zeon batteries
Yep, although gundam (atleast OYW shit) has been pretty good at that. I really want some non mecha shit to show it though.
suprised no one posted anything from yamato.
Also this scene gave me a boner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzWfu3STLtQ
>I want to say this is incorrect too, but it might just be a really strange context.
>drive on the tank (liquid storage container)
>illustration depicts a tank (armored combat vehicle)
Yes, context, but not in the way you're thinking.
Man every time I see threads like this I want to play EVE or WoT again but I'm afraid of what the community's are like now.
EVE faction names is still good for a laugh
>There is a German minority living in Czechoslovakia and that minority is being oppressed.
>That much is true.
>Battle of Macragge anime never ever
>Siege of Somonor anime never ever
>Gothic War anime never ever
>Koronus Expanse anime never ever
Daily reminder that this smug bitch was defiled and impregnated by the Emperor's bulging cock.
And Noel-chan is literally Hitler.
I think LoGH keeps the distances between ships large enough that the ship next to you in any direction blowing up won't destroy you too. And at least they fight in distances measured in light seconds.
>weapons have an actual maximum range and not just an effective range
>they have combat speed, not combat acceleration
>when they stop their engines, the space ships stop
They say that counter technological developments made the whole detection and distant battle communication useless and now resort to use dogs to send messages in land battlefields and messenger ships while on space.
Video footage recording for the next Gamilan recruitment video of course.
Join the Imperial Guards and experience the thrill of gunning down evildoers while bombs are falling!
Something like this
It may have been bad translation by the people that I was getting the fansubs from in the 1990s. But I understood that they did have FTL ships but NOT any sort of warp or transdimentional drive. Hence the "corridors" which were thin spots in either nebula or large belts of cosmic debris, which we now call "dark matter" that range in size from grains of sand to small boulders.
FTL ships cant go through the belts without shredding themselves in collisions with the the space debris. You can go around these fields, but it would literally require years of travel time and a war fleet of any significant size would run out of supplies.
This is also why the colonists who escaped Earth to found the Empire- and then centuries late those who escaped the Empire to found the free planets- both used giant ice ships, as the ice acted as ablative armor and absorbed the dark matter that they could not detect or move away from, and they just plowed through the dirty space
>Hellsing girls are not cute
This nigga serious?
I wanna slap her Serass.
Usually I'm an assman.
But for Seras all I can focus on are the breasts
Why do TSF's remove all the good parts from the planes they are named from?
Yeah they can't even paint their camo properly.
They do explain some things later about how they had to return to line of sight fighting because everybody has absolutely god-tier jamming technology, so remote detection and push button wars are just not possible anymore
>There is a Russian minority living in the Ukraine and that minority is being oppressed.
>That much is true.
What is also true is that they were put there by the Russian government about a year ago. I don't know how many are spetznaz, but probably all of them.
Had they not had to stop due to several stupid reasons they could have sped up their timetable by at the very least a few weeks, which would have evened up the timetable on their supplies and pushed them closer to, if not into Moscow.
How much good that would have done is debatable.
its funny how nulli gets the blame for the entire fight, when it was PL who caused the fight in the first place (it was a PL alt corp who failed to pay the bill) and hell the entire fight was a snore fest man, i fell asleep close to 5 hours till DT and was on the field before the fight started
>tfw good world war 2 type anime never
>all ships just sitting there glued into place
>not zipping past each other in unbound orbits
>not dropping out of FTL with a significant fraction of the speed of light
This is even more static than naval battles.
thats what happens when the game server slows down to 1/100th the normal speed (dispite being hard coded to go maximum of 1/10th)
during the fight there were ships being jumped in, warping in/out for 19 hours
well fastest ship ingame is about 32 AU/s (1AU = distance from the sun to earth)
and actually they added in warp in/ warp out effects a few months after that fight
>Focus on western theater
Probably not going to sell well then.
>Have World War 2, but not our World War 2
The Nips are pretty big on denying their own past, they may like a glorified WW2 but I feel like completly rewriting history is kinda hard. Going into a cold war setting with Nippon surrendering earlier and being allied to either America or the Sowjets sounds more plausible.
