Late night manga thread.

What'cha reading?
What'cha waiting on?
What are you hoping gets scanlated?

>hidden gems
>artists that need more attention

Pictured is Takahashi Yousuke. Hox is working on some oneshots by him, so he might get more of a readership in the English community.

Caught up with the latest Apocalypse no Toride chapter. Was going to start reading some Black Knight Story, which Hox did a little while back.

Waiting for more Mob I suppose.

Hoping for some more Jiro Taniguchi. I wonder if my local library is going to have the last volume of Summit of the Gods anytime soon. My Father's Almanac needs someone working on it as well. I'd love to see some more Susumu Katsumata in English. He has some other stuff published in French I think, but no scanlations certainly.

Manzen Maou Shoujo Ena-sama so i can at least read them raw.Even thought there was chinese chapter releasing slowly.

100 - Handred ,which i had scanned. it is kind of wasted to see the story left untrasnlated.

Otomen_v01_p039.png
3MB, 2819x4400px
Picked up Otomen since I'm trying to read more shoujo. I'm somewhere between a third and halfway through.

It's not bad, but it stretches itself too thin. Instead of developing existing characters, the mangaka just keeps introducing new otomen and while the concept wasn't bad in the beginning, now it feels stale and redundant.

There's no romance, since the main couple is a couple in name only, and the single potential secondary couple that showed up only got a single appearance so far. I hoped that with the multitude male characters it would have a lot of background romance, which is something I'm really fond of, but instead it's just a sausagefest.

Also, to be honest, it feels rather hypocritical - it's okay if you're an otomen, and have girly hobbies or whatever - but ONLY if you're ALSO strong and tall and manly at the same time. The only otomen who didn't have those qualities is not only pretty much a joke character, he ends up getting NTRed, too. I guess it's realistic, but still, bitches and whores, man. I hope it doesn't continue in that vein.
>>
>>113084621
I'm 10-15 chapters behind too. Decided to wait for the end and then reread the whole series.
One of the best ongoings.
>>
>>113082428
That was slightly more horrific than I'd imagined.
>>
>>113084904
>sausagefest
>bitches and whores
You're not really making a good case for me. I was actually considering reading it recently. Oh well.
>>
>>113086202
Well, the bitches and whores bit was more in jest and about the mangaka rather than the girls in this. Well, other than the protagonist's mother, that one is a manipulative bitch of the highest caliber.

But yeah, if you're reading it for the girls you'll be disappointed - the main girl has some great moments, but even she doesn't appear much, and the other ones are completely forgettable side characters that barely show up.

Maybe it will change in the second part, we'll see.

That said, for shoujo it's not exactly bad - I can't bring myself to even read bad shoujo pas a volume or two, while this was reasonably entertaining.
>>
>>113084621
>end
What's up with everything ending all at once recently? And it's all series I never got around to picking up.

Guess I'll have a lot of marathoning to do soon.
>>
>>113088701
I think it's just you. I don't think I've had many series at all end on me. Except maybe Nickelodeon thanks to that Ikki magazine shutting down.

I picked up a couple long shounen series to tide me over during the Fukumoto drought. I'm really liking all of them so far. Also, volume 4 of What Did You Eat Yesterday just arrived in the mail, so I'm looking forward to some more cute gay shit.
I really want to see more scans of Jin. It sucks since EGScans is a very consistent group, but they're too busy working on webtoons to release chapters more than about once a month.

Dorohedoro is still ongoing (got moved to another magazine), so you might be waiting a while if you're want it to finish first.

I doubt it, the artist gets tired easily. He may very well be working on the next chapter, but I don't think it's been published. Who knows.
>>

>>
>>113103100
>redrawing the old volumes?

I was unaware of this. Is that why there are like 3 editions lately?
>>
Started Ateya no Tsubaki again since it got picked up by a new group. Really funny that it got from Batoto on the grounds of being "borderline hentai", yet you don't see any genitals and the sex scenes aren't the focus, the psychosexual violence that follows them and the subsequent investigation by the MCs is. Shit, even I'm not that prudish, this is ridiculous.

The series itself is interesting mainly both due to the atypical MC who is a semi-misogynistic and borderline asexual shunga artist, aand the historical Edo period setting. The female MC is also nice, she's not archetypical and has an existence that doesn't depend on the MC. While the subject matter is bleak, lighter moments also exist so it balances out.

Only complaint I have is the character design for the females. Every single one of them has big tits and asses but we all know that this isn't the case in any country, let alone old Japan. The character interactions and the atmosphere feel natural but those designs sot of degrade that.

Hopefully new chapters won't take long.
>>
New Ika Musume chapter when? I'm guessing the /a/ team needs staff (or just lazy).
>>
>>113103141
Are you Italian too, by chance? We have the normal edition, the "collector" edition (or whatever it is called and then the Kanzenban, for wich I'm pretty sure Hagiwara is redrawing the old volumes.
>>
>>113103942
Just do the same I did and only read it every 50 chapters or so.

Makes all the manga with short chapters and slow releases more bearable.
>>
>>113104101

Nah, just an interested 'Murrican reader. I was browsing Amazon JP to see if there's any indication of it picking up again.

Any comparison shots of the Kanzenban edition?

I caught up to Berserk last night. I'm also trying to push myself through SZS but I'm having a really hard time getting interested in it. I don't want to spoil myself on the ending though. I've managed to avoid them since the manga ended.

SZS kinda requires you to at least care about Japanese culture, if not necessarily be knowledgeable about it - basically, you have to be THIS weeaboo to get on this ride. Unless you're just in it for the girls.

Watch the rest of the anime, it's all good and I think easier to get into than the manga - you can then skip the manga chapters covered by the anime and read the rest if you still care.
>>
I'm pulling a bunch of Takahashi Yousuke from Share. Surprised that his older anthologies are available in decent resolutions (1600px and so).

That's only half of the problem. Other half is 60 second posting cooldown. Fuck, I still remember when 4chan X suddenly broke in the middle of my story time thread when faggot implemented this shit. That's the main reason why they started to die off.

That's sad. Around 95% of links around the web are fucked off by DMCA already.
I decided to archive some complete magazine scans yesterday, but it was nothing but pain and suffering to obtain them. And in the end, it didn't even worth is since everything I got was speedscans without any bonus pages and even the cover.

This is probably a good thread to ask:

I am thinking about finishing The World is Mine. The plan is to buy the French volumes, translate them and use jap raws for the scanlation. So far I've obtained raws for all volumes and I am planning on ordering the untranslated in English volumes from Amazon.fr. I am looking for a skilled typesetter who is willing to do all 4 volumes by himself. I am going to do all editing and whatnot, so it's really just placing text in bubbles.

Kindle images in English are pretty reasonable. Although they're a bit variable. Sometimes they have like 99% jpeg, other times like 80 or worse. Older volumes at worst are like this size. They have 1400px wide sometimes. Kobo is about the same. Sometimes slightly better, but very bizarre leveling sometimes, although easily fixed.

Honestly, just do whatever convenient. Since Mangatraders went down, there's not really a general purpose low-barrier site anymore. Which also managed to repackage a whole lot of manga into volumes over the years.

BakaBT is generally reasonable for completed series, but yeah, ongoing ones just won't be there mostly. I always find that catching up is always better when it's downloaded cause of page lag and unreliable servers.

There's FMD and other online reader rippers, I haven't used any of them in ages and last time I checked FMD was broken for a lot of people.

I'm trying to read Mahou Tsukai no Yome but something about it bugs me.

The premise and characters are interesting, but it's just not enjoyable to read at all. The translation is rather bad, so it's a bit hard to tell, but the way mangaka goes about telling the story isn't working for me at all. The dialogue seems stiff - and it goes beyond just bad translation, since the very flow of conversation seems broken and mechanical - and the pacing leaves a lot to be desired.

Well, at least Chise is extremely cute.

If it was just a bad manga, I wouldn't really care, but it has a lot of potential, that's so far sadly left unrealized.

>>113113490
I picked it up recently too, it seems like Tonari no Seki-kun but actually good, but I didn't want to bring it up since like
>>113158456
said, I'd feel bad mentioning a series that only just started. Same with the other series Ciel Scans translated with 3 chapters out, Hayachine - it's also good, but since the group doesn't exactly have a good track record when it comes to keeping a steady pace of releases, I didn't want to bring it up until more chapters are out.

Yes it is. #1 on Mangaupdates in popularity (for a 6 month time span), The Gamer. Before that, it was Tower of God.

#1 on Mangafox currently, Noblesse. Previously, ToG and probably The Gamer.

It's even less relevant than mangaupdates, so it doesn't warrant mentioning.

Comic artists with an actual background? How does that compare to westerners anyways?

Itou being a dentist. Taiyou Matsumoto being a pro athlete or something just as absurd. Furuya being an actual artist. Tezuka being a doctor. It's interesting.

Can you find any parallel? Normally you would expect the art to be amateurish, simplified, stylized etc. Take the other artists you cited.

It is pretty crazy. But then again, that's what happens. Fucking Shigeru Mizuki did it with the wrong hand. As brutal as the profession is, kids still want to be mangaka.

I'm reading through Slam Dunk because I just realized that I've only ever watched the anime, and never read the manga. Also Usagi Drop, I'm curious why it drives everyone into a rage. I know the gist of what happens already, but that doesn't really matter, I feel things regardless of whether or not I know what will happen.

And I'm still clinging onto a faint belief that Spaghetti Western Berserk will be finished someday. It's painful, but better than just giving up and accepting that the story's dead.

You really should, it's just as incredible as the first time I watched it. I found the pacing good too, I honestly wasn't expecting Kainan at chapter 100. Manga today would probably have fluffed the tournament up and covered this kind of match at like chapter 150 or so.

Also reading Slam Dunk atm, just began really. It always bothered me how fucking slow and dragged the anime was but so far for the first 30 chapters it has been a 2 chapter per episode thing so I'm worried the manga is what actually drags and not the anime.
