>>111941414
I like the remaster better, it may look a bit off when it switches, but there's a reason why they made those changes (because it looks bad in the original version). And of course, higher resolution and quality is nice to have.

Now, what bothers me is that the BD release has two different encoders, and the framerate is different in some episodes. I wish there weren't so many stupid fuckups in things I want to archive.

I've seen a series where the credits were interlaced and the main episode telecined (maybe double telecined). The encoder just inverse telecined the whole thing, and the credits looked completely screwed up. To notice that, all they needed to do was take a look at the frames in the credits, or watch their own encode and notice that the credits looked terrible.

(I wanted to re-encode it, but no one really cares about re-encodes of SD material for unpopular series, so I can't get any feedback for the cleaning and encode.)

The whole anime that was shot in 16mm film is already fairly well preserved with current BD technology. A lot of rippers use 960x720 because the main detail you gain from 1440x1080 is grain.

No, you have shit fucking taste. The entire first half of that series was a near flawless battle shounen. Anyone Yu Yu hakusho thread/discussion I've seen anywhere.
And my actual friends who watched it too, since it was on Adult Swim and everything.
It's the common consensus, ask anybody who's seen the show what their least favorite arc is, the majority will say the Demon world arc, I guarantee you.
>>
>>111953609
>The entire first half of that series was a near flawless battle shounen.

The entire first half was overly generic shit, it had promise at the beginning to be good but immediately turned shit with "defeat x guys". Good Christ the writing is lazy as fuck too, at one point he relies on Hiei being able to dodge mid-air to win and then another he relies on another dude not being able to dodge mid-air to win.

Toguro had potential but ultimately fell flat on his face when they tried to actually redeem him by making it so "HE WANTED TO BE DEFEATED ALL ALONG!" Then there's the whole "he was only b-class!" good lord this isn't even the only problem, it's marred throughout with the whole 'villain explains in overt detail everything'.

>them together with some of the most memorable characters around

>YYH
>memorable characters

None of them are particularly memorable, there isn't that much impact. I'm always going to remember Yusuke as being the protagonist from that one shitty shounen.

>and it had the coming of age story of the main character woven into the plot seamlessly.

Hah, no. That was mostly tacked on in small segments after each arc.

>You are shit taste personified if you didn't like the first half of YYH.

Shit OST, shit antagonists and it took a nosedive into boring tournyshit from the getgo. Tournyshit is only fun if you have characters with impact. YYH only briefly had Toguro like this but then fell apart.
>>

Wings of Honneamise looks really good.
>>
>>111954510
>since it was on Adult Swim

You and them are nostalgia-fagging hard.

Demon world arc was the only one which actually seemed to be bringing some interesting world-building to the table. I like the way the show remains incredibly 3rd rate by not allowing any of the cast to die off even when they are killed pretty much spitting in the face of any characters sulking in mourning.

The series also showed potential after Toguro died with those guys with unique powers showing up, I thought it was actually going to be pretty interesting but that fell flat on its face after the haunted-house thing when Yusuke (who is apparently super-human) was struggling to chase after the doctor guy who was just a regular human.

He was somewhat decent but if you actually paid attention you'd realise he was too blatantly getting written into "bro" positions rather than falling into them naturally.

He'd most likely just remembered a lot because YYH was a babbies-first anime for a lot of people so it's not like they have any other characters to go off of.

You're absolutely right. Anyone who claims the first half is shit has irredeemable shit taste. Calling the people who like it low powerlevelfags just means you're trying really hard to fit in, when in reality you probably haven't even seen 200 series.

>>A mulberry is a tree and kuwabara is a man

The first half isn't even average. It's sub-par.

It's perfectly fine calling people who think it's good low-powerlevel faggots because they clearly must not have seen much to even think that.

Only absolute entry-level faggots or nostalgia faggots think YYH is any good.
>>
>>111957630
Anon there's not need to announce your shit taste and low powerlevel anymore. It's ok, we get it. You want to convince everyone that you've seen more than 20 whole animes and that you're not from off board and trying to fit in.

Stick around and lurk instead of posting, and try watching some more anime.

I'm not sure honestly about the other parts of the franchise, I know my release of Rune Soldier (takes place in the same world as far as I know) I've been watching is certainly not HD. Not as sure about the TV series that retold the OVA story and then had its own story.

Yes. Because they all have different powers and abilities you fucking idiot. Is Yusuke not also having a spirit sword inconsistent?

I'm going to scientifically determine what the greatest anime ever made is, that way anytime someone dares discuss any other show I can throw it in their face, deride their intelligence and smugly tell them to watch more anime, which I will then proceed to insult the same way.
>>
>>111965391
>Yes. Because they all have different powers and abilities you fucking idiot. Is Yusuke not also having a spirit sword inconsistent?

You're missing the point entirely. One character can move mid-air. Another cannot. They are both of the same order with largely the same types of attacks yet it's perfectly assumed that one guy can dodge and another guy cannot.

It's inconsistent and bullshit no matter what you try to drum up, asswipe.

>Yeah not like they had been fighting and were tired and the surprise didn't fuck with his perception.

Dipshit, stop trying to invent reasons he was actually at top performance whereas Yusuke was the tired one.
>>
Why are BDs so based? I remember buying a set of Rurouni Kenshin DVDs back in the day, and they looked like they were ripped straight from the VHS. Even the worst BDs don't look like that.
>>

Well, I guess you could argue that some BDs look just like DVD rips, just at a higher price.

Doesn't hurt, just don't expect the same level of quality in terms of both writing and animation.

Though the other Anon comparing the OVA to bit of slideshow wasn't entirely far off, but the animation is still what you would expect out of an OVA from the early 90s.

Are you people delusuional enough to think someone who only watches season anime is somehow better or has a higher power level than someone whose watched 5-10x series in total but they were older series?

It's objectively better to watch series after they've been finished as you can marathon or watch on your own schedule. Furthermore, a good amount of people who watch just what's airing are just interested in (shit)posting on /a/ and may not know jack shit about anime in the first place.

You don't get it, do you?

Cel animation is a subset of traditional animation. But not all traditionally animated shows are animated with cels. Old Little Nemo cartoons and shit are not animated with cels, but certainly "traditional animation". K-On is traditionally animated, but so is Cobra. Digital coloring doesn't really change the fact. All the processes are the same, except the layers are drawn on paper rather than celluloid strips.

Traditional animation is just "hand-drawn sequential images creating an illusion of motion". Cels are not necessary.
>>
>>111966584
>where each frame is drawn by hand
you know that can be done on a computer, right
you know that even most modern "digital" anime is drawn on paper before being scanned and colored digitally, right
>>
>>111966848
>>111966857
It's not really "traditional" animation if you're using computers.

Yes, I'm certainly aware that they hand-drawn them, but I think it's really silly to call digitally coloured stuff traditional animation. That implies that the technique has been in use for a long time which it obviously hasn't.

It's also not uncommon to equate traditional animation with cel animation even if it may not be strictly correct.

They cropped scene by scene so at least they did it properly. Only big one I seen was when Raditz got out of his ship and it was a total crotch shot lol. Besides if this had the same grain as the level sets it would be fucking huge in size. After reading about the level sets when they came out and these sets when they came out I seen just as many people complain about all the grain as those complaining it is now gone.

They're the crowd who probably watched hollywood movies on VHS, where they were cropped to 4:3 (although some anime movies, like Akira, also were like this) and then saw them being re-released on DVD/BD Widescreen editions, and therefore thought that everything was supposed to be that way.
That's completely ignoring the differences in formats between movies and TV productions, though (doesn't help that a lot of anime movies are 4:3).

But dumb people, at any rate.

>It's not really "traditional" animation if you're using computers.
Computers have been used in composition, editing, and various other adjustments far before they were used in coloring. Many of those 90s shows you cream yourself about involve computers heavily. You think people back then would still use linear editors when they could use a rudimentary computer? Come on.

The thing is that the essence, which is the hand-drawn animation, is preserved. There's a big jump between digital color and Sidonia, and even though techniques change to save time and money, it doesn't mean that the fundamentals do. Hell, what do you think cels are? Just a way to save money, doesn't make them any cheaper than early, fully drawn animation.

>Yes, I'm certainly aware that they hand-drawn them, but I think it's really silly to call digitally coloured stuff traditional animation. That implies that the technique has been in use for a long time which it obviously hasn't.
Well, when you become a respected animator, maybe your opinion will matter more. But there's nothing about traditional animation, as it's generally used, that necessitates a particular sort of coloring, and digitally assisted animation has been around since the fucking late 80s.

>It's also not uncommon to equate traditional animation with cel animation even if it may not be strictly correct.
