I don't agree with your opinion. I find Inaho to be subtle with his emotions, and blunt with his opinions. Unlike with the trash tier whiny and near useless mecha MCs we have have been provided, Inaho has actual resolve and isn't a beta max. I feel that his character type helps progress the plot much better rather than some like Vulvarape MC who required another protagonist to move the plot for him while he whined and bitched for two seasons.
This MC is refreshing and naturally positive in comparison to the run of the mill edge Lords recent Mecha anime has given us.

So i just finished watching EP 4 of this series. i have to say i'm impressed. I kept waiting for the MC to suddenly come into possession of some kind of super-power mecha that lets him effortlessly wipe the floor with the bad guys. To be fair, KlK was just that kind of show. Characters entered and exited the screen with flashy and daring fanfare and a blast of their theme. It was just how they did things, they had tonnes of style to cover the lack of substance.

Aldnoah has a lot more going on behind the curtain and the music often feels like it's fighting for control of the scene rather than supporting it.

The "trained soldiers" (which were probably conscripts like Yuki) spent half their battle shooting at a building and the rest was spent shooting at the kataphrakt at melee range.
The first soldier got killed fast, the second soldier panicked and tried to back away, the third ran out of ammo and had nothing more he could do.
Inaho engaged the kataphrakt at long range, had the opportunity to observe what was happening to the bullets and act accordingly. He also had Calm flank the kataphrakt from the beginning and also had Inko set a trap.

Even if the first group of soldiers could understand the heat effect and switch to AP rounds, they would still have gotten killed the same way. Inaho and the rest would also get killed if not for the distance and the long-range fire support of a ship and a billion cataphracts. Direct confrontation with the Martian always leads to defeat, Inaho understood that thanks to having survived and defeated one of the enemy. He's the only guy to have done both while the soldiers stll believe that shooting at the kataphrakts will be useful.

here's something about the plot that irritates me though. The Martians going to war with Earth is in and of itself a useless gesture. It fact its stupid and infantile. There is no way they can win. Earth has superior numbers and resources. I doubt the Martians number even 1 billion. If the war continues then the Earth will be devastated and it won't be worth living on. Humans will use nukes eventually to try to take out the Landing Castles and the stations in orbit. It seems utterly ridiculous for them to even be fighting. Also its only been 15 years since Heaven's Fall and a total of 40 years since the discovery of the hypergate. Mars has only been colonized for 20 years maybe. And yet somehow they've developed a culture of snotty aristocrats and super technology? The anime is kinda stretching things.

He could go on a reign of terror for awhile and be unstoppable, but eventually someone's going to start figuring things out and actual experts are going to create a way to defeat it.
