TWGOK, except it was retconned in the tank to be very ambiguous so I don't know what to say. She was one of the later girls and started as a background character. She should have won, did, and then canon was re-written.

It was well-developed and not a surprise at all by the end of the story, but Chihiro was basically the anti-Main Girl. In terms of plot importance and time spent with Keima, she was behind Elsie, Haqua, Tenri, and possibly even Ayumi (the supposed First Girl).

Yeah, it got obvious in the infamous, "There is no goddess in Chihiro," chapter and especially the following one, though it was increasingly predictable before that.

A lot of people were thrown by the time travel arc barely having Chihiro in it, not realizing that her absence was intentional to build up the drama of her return, which had a spectacular effect on Keima.

Weird, just noticed that both shuffle and TWGOK's winners have fairly similar circumstances.
Both introduced as friends of seemingly more main girl and both will have drama involving that character later. Both start as playfully snarky at the expense of the main character, both seem to be less obviously interested in him than the sea of other heroines. Both more representative of a normal/equal partnership than the fantastical girls surrounding the main. Both have connections to other males (Chihiro pursuing and Asa pursued). Both have short hair and one accessory on it's left side.

I guess I just really hated the time travel arc and thought it didn't work well at all. Also, Wakaki clearly ended the series early since some plot elements were rushed while others were completely ignored (in example, Elsie = Final Boss, and Demeter in that order)
