I liked second Patlabor movie, but it isn't that easily digestible like the first movie and got a bit less air time for the most of the cast. So I would say that I probably liked first Patlabor movie more.

I'm at episode 4 and the pacing is pretty crazy, one second something is happening and the next the show moves on to something completely different and then back again and then to that other thing again

I don't think I'm far enough yet though, not to give any thorough judgment.
I like how it's set in the far future. So far that humanity on Earth has been reset to turn of the century/industrial era stuff. Then on the other hand the people that settled the moon ages ago are still there and far more advanced. The problem is they want to settle on Earth again and the more primitive Earth people for the most part don't even know these moon people exist. Well it's pretty crazy so far.
Then there is all the nudity, I've never seen an MC and cast be so nude so often.
Also after all the modern "kyaaa he's naked in front of mer pervert baka!" stuff it's weird to see a girl be so composed around a naked guy while also being barely clothed.

I find myself hating the federation, and Char is by far the one with the most character to him.
As a matter of fact, Zeon is fucking great, and they have far more going for them as a whole.

I didn't really care for it. The second half of the series made no sense at all. It felt like what they were building in the first half was just totally ignored and they turned it into something completely different. Something where atrocities were forgiven in the drop of a hat for no real good reason other than "Welp, I switched sides."

Eh, I would've recommended 0080 since it didn't have the usual trappings that put off non-fans from Gundam (Illogical characters and motivations, story direction etc.). Give that one a try.

Macross Plus is great so you should at least watch that.

Macross 7 is polarizing. It took culture vs. militarism theme to the extreme. If the original was a bit silly then Macross 7 went full retard with spirit energy, and space demons, and song lasers. Personally I hate it but a lot of people like it.

Macross Zero is mediocre. It's boring and it has a very heavy handed environmentalist message.

Macross Frontier is nice. It's an anniversary series so it doesn't really do anything new but there are many references to the older shows. It's not the most original show but it's enjoyable.

Does Cobra have the best animation of any TV series in its era? The show is pretty much non-stop action and all of it is animated smoothly with constant movement in every shot
