I've been writing a novelization of Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It uses events happening after the game as a framing story to tell the game, namely Zelda and Link leaving Hyrule to start a new life after Zelda's father refuses their request to court.

Eventually they settle in a little village up in the snowy mountains far northwest of Hyrule, and take new names to hide their identity. Zelda takes the name Esmeralda. When she asks Link what he'll use, he thinks and then says "Edward." The subtext joke is that that's the name I picked because his uncle in LttP is canonically named Alphon.

My wife and I named our son and daughter Edward and Esmeralda.

So Edward came from Edward and Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist, if you didn't get it.
