Yes it is, it's episodic so it's nice to just lay down and watch one episode every weeks
It's very fun, it's sometime clever but some episodes aren't very good
Fuck, I absolutely love shows that give each episode to a different director and let them loose. Yuasa did a really good job with this one. That boat scene in particular is one of the best animated sequences I've seen. Say what you will about Dandy, but if you love animation this show is filled with gems like that.
Right now there are people on this board complaining about how the production "went to crap." Man, this board is fucking gay as fuck sometimes.
I'm mainly familiar with his minimalistic works, so I was pretty surprised to see something like that from him. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit due to it being on TV, but I still find it really impressive.
A lot of the sequences on Kaiba, Kemonozume and Mind Game were terrific (Tatami didn't have that many outstanding sequences that are specifically memorable for their animation
excluding one in the last episode)
>Dandy hitting on you at the end of the episode
My heart skipped a beat
>in a white suit
>taking nerd girl to Space prom
Fanservicest episode ever.
There would be more wrong with you if you didn't want the Dandy
>Dandy spends most of the time separate from the Aloha Oe
>an exotic alien is the true protagonist of the episode
>exotic alien predicts the extinction of his entire species
>exotic alien dies in the end
Which of those two episodes am I describing?
you know it. Also since she is some kinda plant alien and this IS prom. Dandy is gonna deflower her
>there's a plant sprouting out of her head
>she's "moe" in more ways than one
W-What if she's an alternate universe version of 033H from planet Planta?
Who ever is doing the episodes for S2 has the most open mind ever, To even come up with this stuff is fucking really good.
S2 has took a giant dump all over S1, Dandy will be one of the best BONES show for sure.
>At the end of the series all the people they met in the episodes will show up one last time and say goodbye and thanks for watching
Space Dandy cannot be defined, for it is both about nothing and everything.
>she'll be considered "more attractive" when her glasses are removed
dang, looks like I missed an episode. Oh well
I thought it was dumb
yeah and she is facing him so we only get to see the back of her head but a group of passing by guys( who were probably cold to her at the start of the episode) see her face with the whole " Hi, i never noticed a hotty like you at this school before " line .
We need more protagonists with Pompadours.
God damn is it an underrated hair style.
No, we see her emotionally look at dandy walking off into the horizon, the camera pan up to the pink sky with multiple moon, Dandy tell his last phrase while the screen goes black and then the ED comes
>This fucking theme
God damn my dick
Here, have some hoshikuzu no pipeline to finnish the job.
I don't especially remember any Space Dandy episode to be very bad but I don't remember any to be extremely good either, it's an enjoyable experience but in the end few of the episodes are truly memorable
Anyone notice Frieza?
Why did the fish planet have battery brands from another planet if they're an undiscovered species?
Some episodes I feel are the opposite.
Not this one though. They spent about 3 minutes too long on getting Dandy and Meow firmly rooted into the plot. If they condensed that part a bit it would've been a 10/10 episode.
I thought it was kind of sweet how Meow tried to
save Carpaccio's life. Given how in the heat of the moment the situation was, I doubt that he did it just so he could perhaps eat him layer. An oddly heroic, if ultimately futile, gesture.
>mfw this episode.
Yuusa got game. Didn't they hit him up to direct/write an Adventure Time episode too?
Yuusa team in charge of animation production this episode. They like super deformed.
If he was a fish then why the fuck didnt he swim up there and just used the harpoon? Holy shit this is retarded. Also who was voicing that green fish? I know I heard his voice before but I can't remember where.
Why didn't they just hit the fish with the flashlight when he ran into the sun?
I'm going to be very sad when this show ends, mainly because we will probably never see anything like this ever again.
Dandy will always be in your heart, baby.
Cartoon Network is funding this, that's why the animation has been able to continue being experimental and high frame amount even though the BD/DVD sales in japan are medium-low. And it wouldn't work out for being a long series. Maybe if this was a kids show it could go on but even then the animation and stories would get shitty, there's only so much one project can do.
>we will probably never see anything like this ever again.
I wouldn't be so sure about that, Space Dandy is a pretty big success in America and it's well reviewed in Japan, this might encourage other animation studios to collaborate with American TV to make crazy projects like this one
Episode 9 last season had some seriously good art direction.
Well, I guess with SnK they're trying to ride on the wave of its popularity (albeit with a less than stellar dub) and like you said, Bleach has been in that slot for awhile and it's what brings in the viewers.
I really hope that what >>110755862 proposed could one day become a reality. It would be great if a block like Toonami had more creative shows like Dandy. With the inevitability of shows like DBZ Kai coming in to replace Bleach though, that doesn't look like a realistic possibility.
But you're right. Yuasa really has a preoccupation with water and aquatic life. Except for maybe his Genius Party short and Adventure Time episode, I'm pretty sure everything he's done has featured an underwater creature behind a transparent surface.
I don't remember the quality on the horriblesubs release being such complete ass and recently messed around with my drivers, could someone possibly post a screenshot of the 720p version at about 1:16?
Ouch, you're right
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for, but Funimation rips do, in fact, look like total shit.
No but there is.
In the Japanese version, Dandy has an accent and sort of "draws out" the ends of his words.
In the dub, the voice actor just reads his lines. There's no voice acting going on save for the occasional 'baby'
I DO like what they did with QTs voice in the dub. Meows voice is better in the japanese as well, carries a more "carefree" tone whereas again the dub just has the VA saying his lines.
Also in the ep with multiple dandys, they got different voice actors for some of the dandys/meows/qts whereas the dub took the cheap route/cut corners and just reused all the same VAs.
And they also change lines here and there, so the humor in the dub seems to be aimed at a lower-age target audience.
The dub isn't horrible, but it's no Cowboy Bebop dub.
I may like some of the actual voices better but the dub has so much more flavor.
And as someone who knows Japanese, I can tell that the subtitles actually just steal from the dub a lot. The subtitles try to add as much flavor as possible, but the original lines, if you can understand them, are often just really dull and regular.
It's unfortunate how much MeowxDandy porn I had to see to find this furry garbage.
I know some Japanese as well. I agree the subs add things to it, but the dub also deviates from the original here and there and while some of the deviations are funny, some of them are dumber and dumberer level humor.
Also not sure what you mean about flavor. The main characters voice is much better in the japanese. QTs voice is much better in the dub, but when the main character is that much worse in the dub its unwatchable imo.
They did the same thing with Kamina in the GL dub. The guy just reads his lines with no intonation/inflection/accent at all.
The fundamental problem is that at least in Japan seiyuus usually train or go to school for this stuff. In America, you became a VA because you failed to make it in hollywood and you dont want to do porn. Japanese VA can be bad as well (SAO II I'm looking at you) but at least there is usually an attempt to act. So many American dubs are bored VAs literally just reading their lines outloud.
I'd rather have less pleasing voices than boring lines. Most of the Japanese dialog sounds close to stock phrases that you'd find in a Japanese textbook, but most people don't seem to realize this because the subtitles borrow from the dub a lot without translating literally.
I disagree that the dialogue in the original is that bad. It's not poetic by anymeans, but it's about what you'd expect for anime. It's not like the dub does this any better (for example, the D-N-A...Dandy sequence in the multi-dandy episode).
Man, I am hype as fuck for that episode.
Are we ever going to see Hana Kana as an alien loli again?
Trippy cartoons, man.
I really liked how chill was Dandy throughout the episode.
The highschool setting, the dancing and the outfit, I can't help but think of a Grease and Saturday Night Fever mix, and in both movies Travolta had pomp too. Yup, Dandy fever is on.
I unironicly love cripple girls. I fap to almost nothing else.
>mfw Dandy becomes a diamond in the rough anime.
>No one will notice this till 10 years from now.
You guys still talking about this trash?
Still can't deal with it.
>unable to even see the connections between the three episodes
You do realize they're linear now right? Didn't you learn anything from the river of time? Or how this show is now about sad dandy?
Im pretty hyped for next week, assuming it really will be a musical.
Not even trolling, it's really on par with TTGL ep 4.
Either they blew all the budget on >>110753943
or the director's artstyle sucks.
We've seen much better animation in Dandy but it blows my mind people think this episode has the best animation so far (probably because of the scene I linked). Even if it did, the artstyle ruins everything.
Those are totally different styles, and both shit.
>implying your taste is objective
we liked it, you didn't like it. you can stop crying now.
I'm really liking Dandy's personality this season. They made him from an incompetent fool to a great Main Character that pulls the show together.
>Resorting to ad hominem
And a bit of criticism don't hurt you know, I personally love episode 6 solely because of Stardust Pipeline but I'm more than willing to admit it's a weak episode.
ad hominem is when I base my counter-argument on unrelated facts about you. when I have an actual counter-argument with an insult it's not "ad hominem", it's "being mean".
stay mad, faggot.
Nope, it's again an actual argument and an insult afterwards. I didn't base the argument on the insult, dipshit
Oh yeah you're right. You're just insulting me without making any argument, that makes it totally okay and really makes for a constructive discussion.
Or not. If you want to do that, you can simply go to /b/.
Can't compare the two
Each episode is really different so it's more like "hey there is a new season of new stuff starting"
Space Dandy season 1 was basically an entire season of anime smashed down and presented episodically. The only constant is change
Holy shit, this episode.
The first half was okay, but the second one was amazing
After the first season ended, I kind of forgot about it. Only when I saw a CM for the new season did I realize how much I missed Space Dandy. I'm excited for each new episode, and I can hardly stop listening to the soundtrack lately.
That expression on Dandys face reminds me of Lupin the third.
Meow and one of his sisters seem to find Dandy attractive.
Is it just me, or is Honey one of those fan service girls that you don't care much for at the start, but steadily grow more fond of as time goes by? I mean damn, I was pretty charmed by this scene.
>All budget goes to this scene
>Rest of the episode has shit quality
>Not even toei does this shit.
I know what you mean, i was kinda like 'eh' at her since big tittied blonds dont do it for me (im a booty guy) but she just seems so absolutely and genuinely sweet and charming and doesn't seem like a Bimbo at all. Like shes the lady dandy, living life in the moment and going with the flow.
Sweetest lady in the galaxy
Pretty much. She's adorable.
Anyone else here hoping for a Dr. Gel episode? Seems like every new director for each episode gets told "ok, just make sure it has Dandy, Mew, QT, and then throw in a bit with Dr. Gel and Bea somewhere" and I'm kind of hoping someone does the opposite of that. I don't expect a ton considering they're more or less being handed these characters but just as Dandy had some cool character-building episodes Gel could get one too.
>Cartoon Network is funding this
No, Williams' Street is co-funding it which is separate from Cartoon Network funding it.
Success it's relative, until it's released on BD here it doesn't matter
The setting and the sound design kinda reminded me of pic related
No, they did the same voice actor bit in the Japanese version too.
At the mid/start of the episode (namely dr gel scene) i was like hmmm.. has the quality dropped off or are they being artsy and saving the manpower for the last few scenes.
O ya. Didnt let me down.
Will become my favorite show of the year/s.
Honestly couldnt care for it at first but after episode 2 or 3 i realized it is fantastic. Lotta imagination.
The way the art style changes per episode but stays consistent in others is brilliant As much as it may be hated, the whole tie in of pseudo-science and background info using the narratior is fucking GOD TIER.
Best dandy girl so far?
Little Plant Girl
Scarlett is the only correct choice
Also, do you think Dandy prefers vaginal, oral or anal?
That does kinda sound Dandy. But I think he might be an ass-man.
dis goin be good
>my face when plebs said this scene was "overanimated"
>Hung out with Thomas Romain, mecha designer
Space Dandy no!
>Oban star racers co-director
Well, I guess that was okay...
Episode 1- Meh
Episode 2- Delicious
Episode 3- The fuck?
Episode 4- Pretty good
Episode 5- Damn good, baby
Episode 6- The final few minutes saved it
Episode 7- Time to use "that", baby
Episode 8- 2nd half was bad man
Episode 9- Das it mane
Episode 10- Reminds me of me
Episode 11- Bea is great as captain
Episode 12- Damn good
Episode 13- FLCL vibes man
Am I the only one who likes episode 6 ?
There was was something about the story of those 2 strange aliens and holy shit the spaceship battle/duel were so fucking awesome. (Tumbleweed is a great pick from the OST)
I agree on everything else though, fuck episode 8 second part.
yeah because toei is too busy with sailor moon
>last two tracks near the end of the episode
Dear god when do we get another OST?
Fun fact: over a third of the animators on this episode were from America and France, including Titmouse animators Ben Li and Jeremy Polgar, who animated this cut together.
Ben Li did great stuff on Motorcity.
>JP is an alternate universe Dandy
>Sonoshee is his Honey
>MY FACE WHEN QT AND MEOW WERE THE TWO BROTHERS
>AND DR. GEL WAS GORI-RIDER
>mfw this is slightly faster than the version used in the show
