>All those recycled newbie VA's from Madoka.
Not like I had any hope for this to begin with, but damn did they fuck up hardcore.
I am excited yet, horrified.
but if this means cheaper dvds for the US im down as long it supports trigger.
It doesn't support trigger. Aniplex pays a flat fee for licensing right to Trigger, that's all the money trigger gets out of the equation. Buying the Aniplex BD's gives all the money to Aniplex.
>host couldn't pronounce inumuta's name properly
>slides so cobbled together they still had microsoft word red underlines
>mako's va mispronounces her own last name IN THE TRAILER
Reminder that they want you to pay $60 for four episodes of this QUALITY
Who gives a single shit about the dub? KLK's Jap voice acting was great, there's no way an English dub would live up to it.
The only people who care about this are the casuals who only watch anime dubbed.
Senketu's dub VA is good, I'm not knocking him he seems like a really cool guy from the videos I've seen. But he seems mis-casted for this. Maybe he will give a good performance and I just need to get used to it.
Still, I was hoping the dub would have something similar to the Japanese.
Ryuuko's VA has potential I guess, it all depends on if she can put emotion into scenes and replicate the way Ami talked.
The Devas were surprisingly good, or at least better then I anticipated
I've seen too little of Satsuki to make an opinion yet.
I guess I still have some hype for the dub, but I can tell the original will be a lot better. Curious who the VA for Takerada and Tsumugu will be.
Satsuki is miscast, her voice actress doesn't have a deep enough voice (then again I hated her as Casca so I'm biased)
The rest are ok, except for Ryuko and Sandkats.
It's actually cheaper than I expected. My friends practically sold their kidneys to buy other Aniplex boxsets so I was pleasantly surprised.
It's only around $300 for all 5 of the limited edition boxsets. I was expecting paying close to a thousand
I doubt airing it would increase sales much, the people who care already have watched it. They're just dumb enough to care about a mediocre dub and are stupid enough to buy DVDs through Aniplex
So truthfully, was the dub actually bad? Or are we just saying it's bad because it's a dub?
Were the voices just different from what you wanted, or was the voice acting bad? I missed the live stream.
Wait, when did anime get so expensive? I bought all of Death Note (First half was in a box set, second half individual disks), plus the two relights and that was only like $160 all together if I remember correctly. I guess the prices eventually come down considering I bought those like six years ago.
>Ragna as Gamagoori
I'm surprised at how much I like this. A shame the main three girls are all shit though.
Fate/Zero's dub was decent, in that they didn't badly fuck up, but the Japanese is far, far better. Fate is made by its great seiyuu cast. I mean, fuck, watching Kirei voiced by anybody but Joji is just criminal.
So now we know that they couldn't get A-listers for the dub, who can voice Ragyo and Nui?
That was 37eps plus 2 OVAs, it actually wasn't a bad price when I got it. People are saying the Kill la Kill DVDs/ Blu-rays are going to be around $200-300 and that's for 24eps and possibly the OVA.
Ah, that explains it then.
>My friends practically sold their kidneys to buy other Aniplex boxsets
>I was expecting paying close to a thousand
Its been a long ass time since i've bought anime
so im out of touch
I will agree Kirei's voice didn't fit but the other characters were great.
I guess I'll have to agree...
Comparatively it is. 60 bucks gets me 4 episodes of Kill La Kill.... or 13 of something NISA has, or 52 (or more) if I sift through Rightstuf.
But these are the titles that people really really want, so people will buy and AniplexUSA keeps the lights on. This would have happened years ago if BandaiVisual had stuff people wanted that badly.
>YOU PEEGS IN HUMAN CLOTHING
Magnificent. Simply magnificent.
You're husbando is dead. And now they're raping his memory.
>Rider's English VA can't do the battle cry right
That really bugged me. Rider's VA sounded pretty nice but he just yelled instead of trying to do the battle cry correctly.
And they were okay, but the Jap cast was better.
the sad thing is they spell her name correctly in the fucking title card AS SHE'S SAYING IT
I just wanted to watch a shitty fun anime. I didn't ask to witness these misdeeds. Anons in the other thread warned it wasn't worth it to watch the video after I missed the stream. Why didn't I listen? Who could have stopped this?
I know, right? Something so mediocre deserves a more appropriate cast of voice actors. None of this top-tier seiyuu nonsense. Now we can finally watch KlK as it was intended to be watched.
They're killing him anon, slowly but surely.
The only thing that could possibly make this any
betteris if they leave him dead in the OVA. And then dub it.
Why do dubs always flip the names around to our standard? Japs never do that with foreign names. It's always "Bob Johnson-san" not "Johnson Bob-san". They respect their audience's intelligence and assume that their viewers will know, or at least be able to figure out, that other cultures put surnames behind given names, and they respect those cultures by leaving their personal names intact. Why can't English dubs do the same? "Ryuuko Matoi" and "Satsuki Kiryuuin" sound so unnatural and weird.
It's a testament to KLK's horrible fanbase that not even the people on /a/ know how the character's names are pronounced or spelled. Just laughing my ass off at the morons in these threads.
I don't get what people's problem is with the SANKATS voice. He only said like one line, and it was while he was in rape mode.
Willing to bet my bottom dollar that the people pissing and moaning about the english dub are the type that listen to the japanese one a vast majority of the time.
Aniplex is doing something right as they're still around.
First impressions are everything. I can't possibly imagine him in any of emotional scenes between him and Ryuuko.
Sometimes it's best to be the one that never speaks.
Why wouldn't you listen to the better version? Sometimes the english version is better, like with Baccano! or Bebop, but most of the time they don't put forth the effort, so it sucks.
speak FROM THE CHEST
WHY IS THIS HARD
apparently it's actually pretty hard and many voice actors have to go to school to get it right
good on trigger for finding ones that do
doesn't help the current case though
I'm not suprised /a/'s hyperbole was way off
It doesn't sound nearly as bad as I expected. The Elite 4 sound perfect. Way better than I could have hoped. Aikuro sounded pretty good too. Satsuki and Mako will hopefully sound a little better as they get used to their roles. Senketsu's voice sounded a little higher than I would have expected but we'll see how that works out. As for Ryuuko, I'm sure I heard that same voice in some fandub on Youtube. I don't much care for it but it isn't too horrible.
I still really want to hear what Nui and Ragyou will sound like. I guess I will have to wait though.
I think it was just different. It wasn't soothing and deep like his original voice. That being said, it may turn out to be good.
The fact that Aniplex is showing this to a con with Trigger execs and Japanese VAs in attendance makes me thing maybe the trailer isn't as good as the dub once the VAs started to get into rhythm and learn how to play their characters. In every series I can thing of the character's voice changes until it levels out to where the VA is comfortable and can express emotions properly.
What? You're making no sense. While I agree that if a character is constantly referred to by their last name throughout the show it is more faithful to keep it that way, saying Matoi Ryuuko instead of Matoi Ryuuko in English is just plain wrong and would be confusing for people unfamiliar with the Japanese language.
Going by your logic, when speaking Japanese I should refuse to refer to myself as "Lastname Anon" because in my culture it's "Anon Lastname" and Japanese people should just get that.
It sounds like they're dropping the "u" at the end of names, or at least making it vastly diminished, but that doesn't really sound right in English.
The most important question is,
who will voice Junketsu's scream?
I don't really get why they had Patrick Seitz do a higher pitched voice. He could have just done his Garrosh Hellscream voice and it would've fit Gamagori to a tee.
KLK needed the Samurai Pizza Cats treatment anyway. Show the unsubbed version to a group of screenwriters who have never seen or heard of it before, and ask them to write the dialogue based on their own uninformed interpretation.
>they pronounce Senketsu exactly like they do in the sub
>everyone throws a bitchfit because MUH INFERIOR NATIVE LANGUAGE
I'll admit it isn't all that great, but seriously shut up about a non-issue.
>mfw I tried to imagine this scene with the dub cast
>mfw I immediately stopped because I didn't want to think about that
Dub is still redeemable. It all depends on Ragyo and Nui.
Also willing to bet that people that only want anime in English audio don't care.
A shitty English track does not retroactively ruin or nullify the existing Japanese track.
I give dubs their fair shake when I watch the disc or whatever. I've gotten over the attitude (that was forcefed) that you had to watch Japanese or you weren't a fan. Granted this was 15 years ago and dubs were not taken seriously at all, but the mentality was dumb.
Whatever. Watch your girl cartoons however. Doesn't bother me.
Yup. Patrick Seitz is a fucking beast. I just don't know if he was given proper direction for the Kill la Kill dub. Sounds a bit too high pitched, and we /know/ he can get a hell of a lot deeper.
>It all depends on Ragyo and Nui
>tfw Ragyo rapes Satsuki
>tfw Ragyo beats the shit out of Satsuki at the Festival
>tfw Ragyo rapes Satsuki again
>tfw Ragyo talks shit to Satsuki in the last two episodes
And it'll all sound so, so bad. I can't wait.
>Patrick Seitz is Garrosh
I thought Chris Metzen just did all the voices so I didn't bother really listening to anyone's voice too well. I'm actually kind of amazed I didn't recognize his voice in that role.
He's got a young pure soul, but an adult's voice and disposition. That juxtaposition is literally one of his defining traits.
>Ryuko and Senketsu are abysmal
>Nui is Voice Actor of all time, surpassing Yukarin herself
>saying Matoi Ryuuko instead of Matoi Ryuuko in English is just plain wrong
It's not fucking wrong, it's the character/person's name.
>Going by your logic, when speaking Japanese I should refuse to refer to myself as "Lastname Anon" because in my culture it's "Anon Lastname" and Japanese people should just get that.
But they do get that, you fucking idiot.
Do you watch zero anime? Whenever a character has a non-Japanese name, it's always "Given name Surname", never "Surname Given name". And if you've ever talked to a Japanese person, they will always refer to you as "Anon Lastname", never "Lastname Anon". If you were to introduce yourself to a Japanese person as "Lastname Anon", they would think you were a retard.
They need to get this bitch for Ragyo.
[8:53:19 PM] Matthew: wha ya think of the vocie actors?
[8:53:25 PM] Matthew: /a/ is having a hissy fit
[8:53:31 PM] Matthew: saying it is bad
[8:53:34 PM] Salvador Avalos: lel
[8:53:41 PM] Matthew: after listening to it
[8:53:45 PM] Matthew: I is not bad
[8:53:51 PM] Matthew: I would need to get used to it
[8:54:07 PM] Salvador Avalos: /a/ could lick liquid gold from the anus of a top anime director and still complain about how bad it was
I'd like to know, for all those who say dubs are worthless toward benefiting the studio, shouldn't part of the blame for that fall on the studios themselves for not asking for better deals, or a share of advertizing revenue for streaming sites like Crunchyroll or Hulu? I mean, Aniplex is actually a Japanese company, not a western one.
What about those Marvel anime Madhouse made a few years back, the ones that were obviously designed for western audiences - did Madhouse just get a flat licensing fee for that, and if so, why even bother making it?
Remember how often Mako walked the fine line before adorably endearing and ear-rapingly annoying? I doubt that gentle balance will be maintained in the dub.
I can only imagine the first HALLELUJAH.
>All those people in the comments thinking everybody is hating it just because it's in English and not because the voice acting is shit
Also, it wouldn't be "confusing" for people unfamiliar with the Japanese language if it were a common element in dubbed anime. God forbid you actually learn something about the culture the work is from while watching it.
To add - this article from the NYTimes http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/29/business/media/hulu-and-netflix-gain-an-advantage-with-anime.html?pagewanted=2 is all about how western companies make out like gangbusters by buying extremely cheap licensing rights.
They'll probably just forget about her and play white noise when she moves her mouth.
[8:54:32 PM] Salvador: *shrug*
[8:54:38 PM] Salvador: What's done is done
[8:55:13 PM] Salvador: I'm sure if there was an anime that originally came out in english, then was translated into japanese
[8:55:44 PM] Salvador: the japanese equivalent of /a/ would be shitting theirselves with "how bad it is" or "should have picked different voice actors"
[8:56:10 PM] Matthew: fair enough
[8:57:04 PM] Salvador : The reason most people would have to "get used to it" is because they're used to watching the shows in their original language
[8:57:19 PM] Salvador: If you're used to only watching dubs, you'll have no problem with it
>All these people worried about Nui
Why? Annoying valley girl voice is Aniplex's forte.
Hououmaru's Japanese voice was actually really cute. It's a shame the show didn't make better use of her.
It doesn't really matter in the dub though. They'd probably just pick their own unpaid black secretary at Aniplex to play her.

The most requested were DBZ, KLK, JOJO, Sailor Moon, and Hunter x Hunter.
The tumbltards don't have as bad taste as we think.
Pic related is source if you don't believe me.
>What the fuck does this even mean?
You may not know this but Toonami's been airing Black Lagoon and all they did was put a small, barely noticeable pixellation over the nipples at a strip club.
The only thing toonami seems to be seriously censoring themselves are f-bombs because they can literally do nothing about that, T.V. laws, etc.
Don't dubbed series' DVDs cost more (if not nearly equal the price of importing the Japanese version)?
I think importing Japan's releases and ordering from Trigger's online store is the best way to support the studio.
Not the same dude, but I have to agree.
I consider Mako annoying because of Trigger misuse of her character, but not for her voice. Aya Suzaki definitely managed to mantain a balance between borderline squeaky and genki.
The only time she went nuts and almost annoying was in the epiode when she went "RYUKO-CHAN, RYUKO-CHAN, RYUKO-CHAN RYUKO-CHAN!!!!" At berserk Ryuko.
You want to hear true annoying? Go and listen to C-ko in Project A-ko,
>can't say fuck
>can still say slut, bitch, cunt, and probably faggot
They should make her French. That would be hot.
>yfw the dub butchers La vie est drôle more than the Japanese did
well thats it for me /a/ i had a good life but now its time to pack and bite the big one
>dat david stern in the comments section
Why the fuck didn't they get Liam O'Brien to voice Senketsu? It's a perfect fucking match.
>not being proud of her noble Native American history
White cis scum.
>Video is not available in your country
Ryuko is half human and half shirt, Senketsu is half shirt and half human. Ragyo's also half human and half shirt, and it's very unclear but Nui's some distribution of human and shirt.
>Inb4 they give Iori a horrible Slavic accent
>Lady Satsuki, Let's go bowling!
Hint: watch the show.
how about shadow's voice actor?
Iori's going to be the Leeron of this little trainwreck. America loves their stereotypical faggots.
The fact that they even know about it lessens their standing of shittiness in my eyes. For all we know, they aren't actual tumblrtards and are just people who go there to ask toonami questions since they do a bimonthly Q&A.
That being said, while I was looking through the archives to find that, I stumbled upon other questions regarding their pay, and I have to say, I'm really impressed with their dedication, the entire staff. They're still doing toonami without paying themselves anything, not a dime. It looks like they really are using all their viewer dosh to get newer shows, and it really looks like they'd bend backwards for their fans. They asked for newer shows, they struck a deal with Bones and got a freaking 2 cours simulcast. I mean shit, they asked for DBZ, and 2 weeks later, Cooler's revenge played last weekend. They asked for Black lagoon and SnK and toonami got it. All without paying themselves a dime and working late at night. I really wouldn't be surprised if they managed to get Jojo too. It's kind of touching when you think about it.
>That dude named /a/nime in the comments
>signs all of his comments /a/non
You're a such a huge faggot, holy shit.
Mako, Inu and Nonon sound pretty good.
Ryuuko and Satsuki aren't as deep as I'd like them to be, but I feel like they'll grow on me.
Never cared too much about Sensei's voice so it's no big deal to me.
Gamagoori's voice needs to come more from the chest, the dub fella isn't bad but it doesn't quite fit Gama.
Uzu and Senkets, I'm not so sure of.
Maybe the voice actors will grow into the roles, but so far I'm pretty okay with what they have for the most part.
>Sandkats didn't get a cartoonish stereotypical vampire voice
I feel as though this was a huge missed opportunity.
No, you can say faggot. You can even say racial slurs like kike, nigger, cracker, etc. Boondocks says all 4 of those all the time considering it's nature.
It's cunt you can't say. Hilariously enough.
Where does Mexico come into this?
I'm frustrated because I'm too stupid to understand why someone would reply
I just looked back and saw that the original person I replied to forgot his picture.
Why not HTML5 streaming?
New doesn't mean bad right? I've never heard of any of those people so maybe they could be good hidden talents, right?
>You're not even good enough to be my-I'LL MAKE YOU EAT THOSE WORDS
Every goddamn time
Who the fuck finds "cracker" offensive? I can only think about soda crackers.
Besides you know its origin right? It comes from the cracking of whips from slave masters.
>I'll call him a cracker (the guy who fucking whips slaves, his owner) that'll show him
People who make anti-white insults are not very bright, are they?
>Lil Jon will never voice Hououououmaru
Did I not just say that it's considered irrelevant?
It's like how women are allowed to be doubly offended when you call them a bitch, but a guy is only allowed to be normally offended when you call him a dick.
Listen, friend. I don't make up the rules. It's from an era the U.S. would probably like the rest of the world to forget, and as such it buries anything related to the period. A bit like how the japanese don't like to remember nanking, except a lot less dramatic in our case.
>That guy in the comments saying it's hard to read subs
Erica Mendez as Ryuuko Matoi
Carrie Keranen as Satsuki Kiryuuin
Christine Marie Cabanos as Mako Mankanshoku
David Vincent as Senketsu
Matthew Mercer as Aikur? Mikisugi
Sarah Williams as Nonon Jakuzure
Patrick Seitz as Ira Gamag?ri
Grant George as Uzu Sanageyama
Steve Cannon as H?ka Inumuta
Lindsey Eaton as Mataro Mankanshoku
Michael Sorich as Barazo Mankanshoku
Erika Harlacher as Sukuyo Mankanshoku
Todd Haberkorn as Shiro Iori
I'll admit the Nanon kind of shifted me in a negative direction, so I may have been unduly harsh on it. In retrospect however, Ryuuko, has room to improve and hopefully the first episode was just rushed to shit and isn't representative of the other episode VA quality, like how Space Dandy was.
That being said, Sats-key needs to get better, Inu needs to get better, monkey needs to get better, Ryuuko needs to get
gud, and they need to drop senketsu. Mako's little clip was too short, so I can't tell, but it sounded alright. And they also need to get McGlynn for Ragyou.
They should've gotten this guy for senketsu.
I'm guessing Nui will be voiced by Tara Strong.
Sorry, anon. I thought the Japanese DVDs also had English subs, but looks like it's just the Japanese ones.
Satsuki's voice kind of sounds like the black girl that voiced her in the fandub.
that would be hilarious.
It hurts to know that this person is in this thread right now.
Hey, her and Ryuko can be bronies together.
I'm afraid I only remember her as Blossom of the Powerpuff Girls, so something like that.
Given the quality of the voices heard in the trailer, I doubt that.
>Flava Flav as Takarada
