Ah 6 is out huh?
I haven't been paying attention.
What are some of the new big changes for 6?
>>565411
not much, mostly stuff for people who want to do cloth design
if you use marvelous for sims, for detail for normal map baking and for making clothing for exporting and re topology you will find nothing new
How do I stop buttons from fucking with my layers? I had to resort to faking buttons with circle sewing and adding buttons later.
Honestly, add one button on the cuff and the entire sleeve rolls into a ball of polygons.
>>565540
Do you make your own buttons? Cause I've tried adding solid/rigid objects to my clothing and they've all just deflated even if I've set rigidity to max. Which might explain why your buttons aren't working.
>>565543
No, I used the button function. They added it in 5, I think. It just doesn't seem to work yet. I could, of course, just freeze the damn thing before simulating the jacket.
>>565546
I've resorted to adding buttons/zips in zbrush and I fake the creases by using dynamesh. Gives me more control with the button designs imo
>>565042
Is this shit good or is it just a meme? I haven't found anything I prefer over Blender so far.
>>565605
Marvelous Designer is a completely different sort of software and best in class at what it does.
>>565605
lmao - typical Blender user.
Doesnt even know what the program is; or what is does... BLENDER STILL BETTER
>>565622
One of the reasons i hate the average Blender user....they are so dumb it hurts.
And i say this as a Blender user.
I've never seen or heard a Maya user for example say such bullshit.
>>565649
True, I don't even think Blender is such a bad software(like some here would say) but god damn it it;s users are the fucking worst
Blender's biggest problem are the documentation and the community. It has actually gone downhill since version 2.37 because if you ask the community what feature they want, the community tells you gradients on buttons and circular menus.
And they bully you into removing any feature they don't undertand how to use. That's the way Open Sores die when there is no leadership. Firefox is another example.
>>565699
>blender dish out features like bendy bones and microdisplacement
>whole community is excited, people make day 1 tutorials
>few months ahead, no one even incorporates it in their work.
>>565649
>I've never seen or heard a Maya user for example say such bullshit.
Ye, becomes even Maya users hate maya.
Fucking Autodesk is a cancerous growth on the industry slowly trying to control all aspects of it from sculpting to animation and suffocating the competition.
>>565701
Apart from being crashy I honestly love Maya. Most of the time it's plugins that crash Maya, Autodesk's only fault is not keeping the runtime more locked down and stable. (PRMan is a major offender)
>>565605
does blender make your brain blender when you make blenderart?
the biggest meme here is you and all the other blenderfucks....
I even checked blender and imho it's awesome software. + as free software it's really really good and godsend to people who want to do 3d and have no shitton of money for free, (and people who can not/don't wanna pirate)
but maaaaaan.... it's fucking community... what's wrong with these people? they'll straight up argue with you that it's better than Zbrush for sculpting, and bring up thet it has mno real polys orvsomething like that... they are like radical femminists and weebs who hate them, at the same time...
>>565701
BS... everything has it's haters and most time these haters don't know what the fuck they want in reality. I love maya too. its best general software for me and to many it's users
>>565701
That's not what i meant. No Maya user will take a look at Marvelous Designer and say: what is this shit? I'll stick with Maya!
And if you are a user of a software, you are entitled to criticize it because you know and use it.
I use Maya and Blender and Cinema4d and i have a love/hate relationship with each of them, but i would never generalize and say the whole program A is shit or A is better than B. Except when it comes to certain disciplines.
PS: Autodesk IS a cancer, but the software is not.
>>565701
It would honestly be a godsend if maya got sculpting tools even 75% as good as what zbrush offers. zBrush is the real cancer on the industry because they're the only truly viable solution to high poly sculpting but refuse to clean up their broken fucking software.
>>565718
why the fuck is zbrush cancer? because other devs can not do half what it can?...
+ people who hate it's UI, but don't want to dedicate 2-3 days learning it. and then you find out that they don't know "must" features even exist, like "repeat last step" etc...
take time and go over some deep overall zbrush tutorial. like gnomon's introduction or something.
I'm fairly "new" to 3d, like almost 1,5 years, if no zbrush I wouldnt've stuck with 3d.
>>565735
1) All kinds of random breakage when exporting/importing to common formats
2) Godawful "transpose" shit, Pixologic is very hyped about introducing industry standard transform widgets in 4r8 except it's been over two years since 4r7 and still no announcement.
3) No control on a per-vertex basis. Still stuck in the past with .zpr nonsense every time you start up.
4) All kinds of weird shit you have to get used to and memorize. Reversing texture map direction. Strange menus.
5) Every minor version completely breaks backward compatibility. Zbrush 4r6 will refuse to so much as touch a 4r7 file.
6) No Linux version.
Zbrush isn't something I use very often so I'm sure experienced users have more damning things to say about it.
>>565718
If 75% is okay then just use 3dcoat.
>>565718
>because they're the only truly viable solution to high poly sculpting
You got mudbox and 3d coat.
So no, they are not the only software around.
>>565820
One more problem: unacceptably crash prone. Not as much as Autodesk shit but about as bad as Substance Painter.
>>565887
Painter never crashed on my Windows system. Only the Linux version was crashy.
>>565042
It depresses me that Marvelous Designer is the best cloth sim modeller out there and it's still absolute shit.
It's a great way to model clothes if you don't know how to sculpt but the simulation is meh. If you look at the way real fabrics fold, drape, and wrinkle compared to the way the simulated fabrics do it's very obvious the simulations are fake.
Why in 2017 is decent cloth simulation still such a huge problem? It seems like it's more of a challenge than fluid simulation. Granted we've been using computers to emulate the physics of fluid dynamics a hell of a lot longer than we have been for cloth simulation, but you would think that simulating cloth would be a hell of a lot easier.
Basically if you want truly realistic looking cloth meshes you've no choice but to sculpt them manually which requires a hell of a lot of skill and talent compared to running a sim.
The best a pleb like me can hope for is to do an okay simulation with MD and then try and make it look more realistic by doing the detail work in zbrush.
>>565833
>THIS
Agreed, 3D-Coat is a hell of a good zBrush alternative and getting better all the time.
>>567836
I want to put my penis inside that statue.
>>567836
if you spend the time perfecting the material properties, and ensure your patterns don't rely on stretching to fit your model, you'll find you can achieve very close to life results. You can always export the mesh and simulate it in another program.
