It actually became the best sold anime of all time recently.

It's got cute characters and a cute premise, "normal" folks won't be able to tell what's wrong with it. At most they'll think, "Hmm, this part looks a bit janky." but those moments will be few and far between.

Just another thing that caught on and'll lose steam about a month or two from now at most.

If they used C4D for the shading, that's pretty fucking impressive, because that program is finicky as hell with its NPR shaders. The outlines look really good.
No idea how they pulled that off in that program. I thought the japanese 3d animu studios all used xsi or something like that.

Unless that shading is just static textures painted on, in which case that's a little shitty.

Yes. Extensively.

Turns out I was wrong, and the show looks awful when moving like most CG anime do. They didn't use sketch & toon's shader for this anyway. Just the line system.
The outlines look nice when paused, but bad in motion because it's constantly redrawing lines in places it shouldn't.

Turns out they also drew the shading into the textures, and it isn't affected by the lighting in any way.
It's literally RWBY's technique, but with japanese texture artists and some post-processing.

I went in impressed, and came out disappointed.
