There are quite few 3dcg oriented sites that probably predate 4chan.
Also I think /3/ was deleted at some point between 2005 and 2010. If it's true that probably didn't help either.

cgsociety and polycount are the two big ones.
fuck even deviantart's 3d community is probably more active than /3/.
There's also 11secondclub, but that's more for animators.

This place is alright though, if only a bit slow. The people here are generally some of the least retarded people on 4chan, at the cost of being the most autistic.

To be completely fair. I think the best 3d artists are the ones we don't hear much about, unless you actually read the credits after you finish a game, that's the only way to find them.

It's the pro's who hide in the shadows but you know they work full time in a studio somewhere. Those are the only notable people who come to /3/
