It was fine in terms of quality but I didn't have ANY animation skills back then so I couldn't clean my captures up

IPIsoft while good takes way too much time and space to setup right. You can use 4-6 PS Eye's for best results. And Kinect mocap is mostly crap. The second you put your arms in front of your body the software you use with Kinect will spaz out like crazy.

If you are really serious about doing mocap then it's best to invest in a sensor suit like Perception Neuron. They run from $999 for an 18 sensor suit to $1,499 for a 32 sensor suit that lets you do finger motion capture. I got my 32 sensor suit for $1,299 with an academic discount. Seems they don't do academic discounts anymore though.
