I don't have a job, I don't have anything but time on my side. I saw the credits list. Is it possible if I grind every day to make something like this as opposed to them doing it over the years with other projects and responsibilities in their lives?
>>
Is that chromatic aberration or something wrong with my eyes today?
>>
>>538414
yeah they used it
>>
>>538413

I think Beeple could make it in a day, honestly. Might have to have a guy in a space suit though
>>
>>538413
If you're healthy and you have all the time in the world you can accomplish tons. Be it art, writing, trade skills or another subject, time is the one thing many can't afford too spare. It's really up too you whether or not you succeed.
>>
what the fuck is this screenshot from? god damnit why no info are you retarded motherfucker?
>>
>>538465
Literally just googled "sheriff 3d short" and found this from video thumbnail.

Its probably you who's retarded
>>
>>538465
>I'm too lazy to reverse search image
>I don't pay attention to current animation trends
>I'm a lazy piece of shit who can't do my own basic research

Here's your info you retarded motherfucker

op is asking a question and not providing info thus limiting his posibility in getting his question answered. you fucking retarded cunt, keep doing his work for him
>>
>>538469
Fuck op. He's a faggot anyway. Also fuck you too.
>>
>>538413
Yes It's possible. There is your answer

it's very easy

jesus christ...
>>
There is absolutely no way a a single person could pump out a short of such quality alone.
>>
>>538623
why not?
>>
>>538669
you need to be a character artist and a vfx god which if you are at this point you are probably making over 100k and don't need to make short films to prove yourself
>>
>>538689
Short films for recognition on the other hand...
Art isn't just about the money.
>>
>>538771
all im saying is if you can model/animate/compose a film at this level by yourself it would place you someone amongst the top 10% artists in the entire world

when you ask for probable, here is the probability.
do you have the determination? do you like 3d? then go for it.
>>
>>538777
>all im saying is if you can model/animate/compose a film at this level by yourself it would place you someone amongst the top 10% artists in the entire world

The top 10% of artists in the world is millions of people.
>>
>>538804
being a top 10 artist doesn't make you know all those 3 things combined.
if i used that as a factor you could say 1% or even less
>>
>>538815
Not him but nice moving goal posts. The point is, you can do all of this, if you're determined. You just said yes to OP, so why are you saying yes when nodding no? Herp derp.
>>
>>538826
> The point is, you can do all of this

that was not my point at all. my point is that its highly unlikely to ever happen because personally iv never seen it happen before and i browse artstation everyday and browse on several 3D and art forums.

i saw 2 guys so far that managed to make semi good looking game by themselves. (not to mention they probably used alot of premade stuff along the way). so a movie is even a taller order because you can't use premade scripts to help you generate a movie, so keep that in mind.
what else you want me to tell him? that anything is possible and the sky as the limit? because you clearly see its not. most people shoot way off their abilities
>>
>>538845
cont.

don't want to stomp all over a guy dreams but
you want to be a character artist? go for it. you wanna do vfx? go for it. compositing? sure.

but 6 things combined? uhhh sure. do you have the time? you decide
>>
>>538845
>>538847
The sky is the limit. You say games but I'd say a game is much more complex than a linear video. If you have time and you understand discipline in learning is key, then you can do much of these things. I'm not saying you're going to be a master at compositing, the greatest animator, and the most visualizing artist, but you could easily do this with time. It's really just two characters, props, and animations. You find a sound guy because you can't focus on everything else and you could even find a compositor. But you're telling me that animating two characters is impossible and will take 10 years? Come on now, you're not giving him enough leeway for probable accomplishment. If he doesn't have to create and score the sound, then it's the 3D and the compositing. You could probably get away with just learning how to cut and switch, and that's if you even feel like doing the compositing yourself. Everything else is very reasonably accomplished if you take the time to learn your skillsets.

He's not someone missing an arm and one eye. You either have no work ethic and are bad at what you do, or you have never created art to just create art.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf4ba72kFNQ
>>
>>538863
He doesn't just have to do it, he also has to learn all of it in the first place.
What do you think how long it takes from beeing a total noob until you create a character which is able to express emotions?
Composition is the smallest part of the whole thing, one can learn that in months, but character design and animation?
>>
>>538863
>the sky is the limit
i know your teachers/parents always told you that, but reality check man.

>He's not someone missing an arm and one eye. You either have no work ethic and are bad at what you do, or you have never created art to just create art.

now you are just projecting, i said what i said in terms of observation.
>>
Can you do it alone? Yes. It will just take you an inordinate amount of time. If your goal is purely art for the sake of art, then who gives a fuck about how long it takes you. If your goal is to do it as a job, pick one or two things and do them well so you can spend all your time working on some other dude's vision. It all depends on your passion and willingness to spend the time. Lots of people are doing one-man or small team productions these days because they are passionate...maybe not to the same level of polish, but still.
>>
>>538909
I work in film and this is not Mission Impossible. If you're hobbyists that's fine. But if he wants to learn, I had a friend who knew nothing about characters and zbrush and in 8-12 months could crank out cartoon and semi realistic characters with a good level of detail. He spent every day cranking out sculpts and now works as a junior character artist. I'm sure if he spent time learning animation he could produce these kinds of shorts in reasonable time frames.

>>538912
I never went to school for art and learned it in my spare time. Now it's my full time job. Stop being butthurt. This is achievable if he puts the work in.
>>
>>538413
Will OP be able to achieve the technical aspects shown in this video? Yes. Will he have the artistic vision like Pixar employees? Probably not. Everyone whining about how this is impossible works at Mcdonalds or is a neet.
>>
>>538938
not butthurt but why would studious hire teams of artists working a movie when they could just hire all-in-one almighty? maybe because you overestimate your own work
>>
>>538949
Don't strawman my argument please. Studios hire many artists because the difference is time and efficiency. Not to mention that if you hire specialists the work will be all the easier to keep in the highest quality. They don't hire the all in one almighty because that is not a schedule that is doable when the feature is hours long and is to be released en mass to millions.

That is the dumbest strawman I have ever seen, which doesn't particularly relate to the topic at hand. OP asked if it was possible to achieve this, and the answer is yes. The amount of time and quality it will take is up to him, and how fast he can learn his skillsets.
>>
>>538955
that's not a strawman. im coming to this thread assuming OP couldn't model a chair and he wants to one day create a short indie film by himself.
maybe if he given me some information on his skill-level i could direct him.
does he even know interface of zbrush and maya? did he make 100 sculpts yet? does he have the time? will his passion wither with time?
don't give me salty lip because i don't see everything through your rose tint glasses. begginers usually come up with questions like "how do i make realistic models" instead of the questions they should ask like "how do i start with 3D" his question looks a bit odd to me in that regard
>>
>>538966
straw man
noun
a sham argument set up to be defeated.

That is the perfect example of a strawman argument because my reply was of nothing of the sort that you implicated. This is objectively a strawman implication and you saying it's not doesn't change this fact. The argument has nothing to do with hiring one or many, and the only other choice for you to choose besides a strawman is that you legitimately don't know why studios don't hire one guy instead? You know full well and you pitched a strawman argument in its place instead of actually putting forth an intelligent reply.
Second, it doesn't matter if he knows 3d or not. It doesn't matter if he doesn't even know what a triangle is. My friend knew nothing of 3D and was only interested because he liked Disney 3D movies like Wreck it Ralph. He learned, he gained his skills, and now he's working in the industry. The same can be done with OP, but he has to take more steps into achieving his goal. That video I linked you was created by a single guy. He got a job at a studio right after he posted it, and if he took the time to learn other skills he could do this video alone completely. The point is, that you can achieve the technical aspects of this video, but like another guy said, he most likely won't have the artistic finesse that these guys do. Technical aspects can clearly be achieved, you're just an underachiever who is most likely a hobbyist.
>>
>>538971
you are speaking from anecdotal evidence which i haven't yet seen.
why are you throwing your friend at me which is not even related to the topic. yes your friend got a job at the industry because he was a dreamer. but OP does not ask how to get into the industry so stop throwing that example at me.
so back to the subject at hand. which is being a multi-skilled and multi-talented artist. which is rare.
if we are talking about it if its possible in terms of yes/no obviously he can achieve it. but i want to add certain factors to make that delusion a little more realistic because you can't just say yes to a kid that want to be an astronaut. unless you are a terrible parent that want your kid to be heartbroken one day, same applies here. i want to give a realistic approach to the manner
>>
>>538974
cont.

start small and dream as you go along which is really the best method. when i was making kitchens in sketchup i thought i could make progress but never to the point of me making money. it all started as really dumb idea of "what if i can make cool stuff one day" and as i progressed the dream got bigger because
>>
>>538974
So now that you silently admit it was a strawman:

YES. OF FUCKING COURSE WE WANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT DELUSION IS NOT THE SAME AS REALITY. Holy shit man, I am not saying he will achieve his goal, I never said that he would go on to win indie festivals and match this exact video with ease. Many, many, many people fail/give up/don't have the skills to do this. But it is plausible and you shouldn't discourage anyone from trying to approach things with a mindset as above. We can be realistic first and foremost, but we can also have the ability to dream and succeed. Also, anecdotal evidence is a perfectly valid response because:

>my point is that its highly unlikely to ever happen because personally iv never seen it happen before and i browse artstation everyday and browse on several 3D and art forums. - you

It is a counterpoint that in my experience, I have seen people go on and succeed to do similar and related achievements like this. So once again, I never said it would be a cakewalk. Many people fail and/or give up. But you discouraging him from even attempting to learn these skillsets is preposterous. I'd say almost the entirety of your posts have been all but negative, maybe excluding one sentence. This is why I countered it with my own experiences that were positive, to show him that your dreary outlook on the situation is not the entirety. He can achieve this, but the likelihood of it playing out on him succeeding isn't high. It's ultimately up to him and his dedication to improve and succeed. That is the reasons I posted my outlook, to counter yours with realism but positive experience.
>>
>>538977
i agree with most of your statement and i had no intention of putting down OP. matter of fact is most criticism in /3/ are harsh and none constructive anyways so im not trying to be mr.evil here.

so we want to encourage people to do good and grow in life but sometimes we also need to stop repeating good ol boy philosophy that our parents shoved into our faces and put things in perspective
>>
>>538979
Of course. If it was just smiley stickers and pats on the back that breeds for complacency and failure. /3/ obviously has the inverse problem of being assholes with no critical points and criticisms but I suppose that's more 4chan nature than anything. Have a nice day.
