I can see the need to discuss, model, illustrate and demonstrate certain anatomically correct features but I would hate it to turn into some sort of porn board.

The actual artistic aspects of what you're doing. Depends of course what kind of thing you're modelling for (whether it's CAD to design cars or characters for an animated feature). Things like shape/form, anatomy, lighting, exaggeration, the principles of animation (anticipation, follow-through, ...), color-theory, ...


Software used is one of the least important things, people who fuck around with exotic software & plugins are usually just trying to find some shortcut/lazy excuse that helps them avoid applying any actual artistic skill.

Maybe you've not hung out for long enough, maybe you've gotten unlucky, maybe you've presented your work not in the way /ic/ expects it to give useful feedback, maybe what you're doing was deviating too much from what /ic/ expects, maybe you were just too butthurt, or maybe your art was just too bad to warrant any real type of critique.

I've hung out on both /ic/ and /3/ for ~3 years now, I think, and I've definitely seen and gotten a lot of useful critique on /ic/.

People on /3/ are friendlier and more well-meaning (and there are fewer trolls), but the advice, discussion and critique I see is almost always pretty low-quality. I think almost everyone who browses this board has very, VERY little experience. I don't even mean "Industry" experience or anything, I just mean as in, making anything that is worthwhile to look at.

probably just different interest when it cones to drawing/painting. they really seem to hate anything more along the lines of illustration rather than concept art. that said, the #/ic/ irc channel is actually realy awesome and full of genuinely cool and extremely helpful people. there's teally no reason to use the actual board itself when the irc channel is a much better community, small though it may be

I've been banned about 5 times on /3/ over the years.

1 was for posting a tutorial on how to make proper nipple topology. Yet there have been many times I've posted nudes on this board and not been banned. It's inconsistent as fuck and the board just needs to go red like /ic/ and get over itself.

It's bullshit this board isn't red but do mods even listen to feedback? From what I heard the way 4chan is administered is such a cluster fuck that basically nothing but necessary maintenance is ever agreed upon and implemented.
