Any way to fix stretched/squeezed UV without having to remap

Just go into the UV editor in our modeling package and adjust the edge's positions until the texture looks less stretched...

If I remember correctly Blender has an option to edit topology while maintaining the UV texture intact. Maya's bonus tools comes with this feature as well. 3Ds Max most likely has it too. I forgot how's it called exactly.

You don't need Maya's bonus tools to do that, it's a simply checkbox in all your tools "Preserve UVs".

Okay, to be fair, you're probably new to this, or whatever the circumstance.
My suggestion? Just remap it. Learn from this mistake so that it never happens again.
It really shouldn't take 4 days for this, this is 30 minutes - 2 hours work, TOPS.
What software and how exactly are you UVing this?
If you can use Roadkill, I highly suggest doing so, it might help your speed problem, but may also bring up more problems depending on what you do with it
