Wyrmwood. Based in Australia, lots of action, some of the camera techniques are reminiscent of mad max, and it puts an original spin on the stereotypical zombie.

John carpenter's the thing (1982). Foreboding sound track. Tension that is always in the background, deep paranoia sub-theme, great acting. It's a good film to research.

Check out Der Fan OP. It's a German horror flick that has been described as "nazi death porn" and it's not entirely far off. The whole movie is uploaded to YouTube under the title "Trance," which is its sometime release title in the US. Definitely worth the watch.

The only reason I don't agree is that Rosemary's Baby is just too subtle. And I don't need or even typically seek out gore or jump scares, but while the story is excellent, the presentation is just...I dunno, too tame.

Don't get me wrong, I love the movie and think it's a great horror film, but it will never rank in my top five because while the idea is excellent and the film is even well done, it just never, ever scared me.

Rosemary's Baby is neat, but not THAT good. Yeah, I understand the spoopy is all subtle... but the actual nature of the spoopiness itself is at times sort of silly. I guess it works if you assume she's just crazy though.

The first half of this is really good, probably the only time I've ever felt actual dread from a movie.
