There must be some reason for that pick in one famous title, looks like author specialised not only in astronomy and mythology, but also crystal gems related things

In Polish translation, everytime Jadeite appears, it's translated as Nephrite

Example: Jade Dragon -> Nefrytowy Smok

But seriously, they're minerals. Rocks are a mixture of minerals, while minerals have a specific chemical composition.
Analogy: molecules are to rocks as atoms are to minerals.

Try Moldavite, OP. It's about 40$ for a small piece but it's worth it. Crystal are weird thought. I never was able to undertand how it works, but it does.
