Sup /x/, what do you guys make of this. I bought it while abroad in Panama. I got it from "the river people", that is what was relayed to me....the object in question was described to me as a " death cast" where they make a mold of a dead persons last facial expression. The guy was very reluctant to sell it to me but I laid some serious cash on the table and he allowed me to depart with it. Do you think it really is a death cast or just some horrifying sculpture? I'm good either way but it would be cool if it is a death cast.

It's a neat sculpture made to bait tourists, a good conversation piece, but nothing more.
The mouth is open way too wide, when you die your muscles relax, but in order to open your mouth that wide you actually have to put in effort.
You can try it out for yourself, relax your jaw as best you can (which isn't quire the same thing since your muscles are still alive), you'll maybe be able to fit a finger between your lips, not like this.

This is true. OP got scammed like your average American tourist.
>when you die your muscles relax
This is mostly true, but your mouth can be caught like that if are killed with it open. They would only bother to cast the expression during rigor, since otherwise they would change the expression. Still probably a fake though.

Only if gravity pulls it open, when you die you go limp, you don't magically "freeze" or anything, which means that in order for this to happen you'd have to die in a really wonky position.

Oh well...thanks dawg...it was my second time abroad...
Ignore the trolls OP, that is clearly a fucking
That does look like a death mask, although I have no idea why the mouth is open on it
