This episode was the first one of the miniseries i was able to see(i need to stream the other ones).
Ive seen all the seasons before this new series, i loved them.
This episode was just so bland, i feel bad for the mulder character. He went from cool beans to mulder vs Lying Loser Lizard. Who will be the victor? Find out in this issue.
>>
>>17312551
>This episode was just so bland, i feel bad for the mulder character. He went from cool beans to mulder vs Lying Loser Lizard.

Actually, I felt like Mulder bonding with the Lizardman was one of the stronger parts of the episode. Yes, it was cheesy, but it was supposed to be. Surely you remember they did comedic episodes too? The ones in the later seasons sucked and they were overdoing it, but the ones from the earlier seasons were fantastic.

This episode had flaws, sure, and for a moment I thought I was going to hate it, but the good parts were fun enough for me not to write it off completely. This was no "Jose Chung's From Outer Space", it was closer to "The Post-Modern Prometheus" or maybe "X-Cops", but not as cringe-inducing as the ones from the last three seasons.
>>
>>

I guess i just miss the cool stuff like the soul eater or the fungus boner and expected that instead of... This.

>>
>>17312578

The Lizard-Man was the best one of the new season by far IMHO.

The first two seemed forced, and Mulder and Scully looked bored to tears, I know I was.

The Lizard-man episode was laugh out loud silly. I loved it. "Not the gun! Stab me in the appendix" - Racy Scully in the backroom, the jackalope mask on the wall, Mulder trying to explain transgenders to a lizard, the motel manager was powering down rubbing alcohol for fucksake. I found it all very funny. If it had been like the first two episodes again I probably would have bailed before it was over.
>>
>>17312590
That's understandable. I'm just trying to find enjoyment in the new series where I can while reserving my final judgement for when it's over. There were definitely times during this episode when I was cringing or thought the dialogue was too rushed or forced. Three episodes so far, and this series is a mixed bag. There are good parts, and then there are some really dumb parts, but I didn't hate it instantly like I thought I would, so I haven't given up on it yet.

Now that I think about it, since that one anon posted this >>17312549

I've been thinking of the whole "That's good"/That's bad" Frogurt joke from the third Simpsons Halloween special. Sums up my feelings on this miniseries exactly.
>>
>>17312624
I recommend you skip the last three seasons except the plot-relevant and Mytharc episodes if you want to know what's going on in this new series, but they are pretty terrible.

>>17312628
>What new problems does he have now?

It's Mulder, he always has problems. I think they're overdoing it a little with the Disillusioned Mulder, though, because we've already seen this several times in the past. And while it was funny that the psych was offering him some meds in the last episode, they've done better jokes about Mulder needing therapy. There was even a more serious take on it in the episode "Demons".
>>
>>17312685

And now that I've posted that, I think the whole pencil thing was an example of them overdoing some of the callbacks to the original series. Yes, everyone loves the pencil scene, but it feels like one of the more overt attempts to run the show on nostalgia fumes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he did this in more than two episodes. It wasn't like his constant sunflower seed habit. Now we've seen them reappear twice in a six episode mini series. Some easter eggs are funny, other times it feels like they're overdoing it, and this was one of them.

i'm in the same boat as you. i'd say they're lucky they have the nostalgia factor keeping me watching. and i really want to like it but certain scenes (and especially in regard to dialogue from mulder and scully) just aren't great. but it does have some of the old charm and it reminds me a lot of /x/ and real life internet conspiracy fans so i'll probably stick around.

>And while it was funny that the psych was offering him some meds in the last episode, they've done better jokes about Mulder needing therapy. There was even a more serious take on it in the episode "Demons".
honestly, i felt that psychiatrist part was more of a joke on psychiatry itself and how "the doctors are crazier than their patients." i think the doc even takes a couple of the pills he offered mulder at the end of the scene. i thought this was pandering to real life conspiracy theorists who seem to hate psychology in general because they often end up getting committed to mental hospitals for some reason.

Do you think this chick is actually dead? If the Smoking Man can survive a missile to the face, is an alien or "ARV" laser beam really enough to get her? Mulder was going on and on about her being the key to everything, then she just gets blown up? But if not her, I guess those psychic kids who escaped could show up later.
>>
spooky bump
>>
I'm confused as fuck. Apparently Carter is showing the episodes out of order. So first ep went from them figuring out that a new conspiracy is afoot, then second and third eps they're just back in their old jobs hunting monsters? The disconnect for me is huge but I'm trying to just roll wth it cause I love the show.
>>
>>17322877
yeah, i was being tongue-in-cheek there. i was implying that they hate psychiatry because it's an industry full of people telling them that they're wrong (who actually have the power to lock them up if they get too frisky about their delusions).

i genuinely think the writers did at least some digging into conspiracy theory communities online so that they could be as appealing as possible to the current conspiracy crowd, which has evolved since the time they came up with the original premise for the show revolving mostly around alien coverups.
>>
>>17327070
That's how the original series was, except it was almost all Monster of the Week episodes, with the occasional plot-related or Mytharc episode, as they came to be known. I'll admit it is a little jarring for someone watching the series for the first time or hasn't seen it in years. But with only six episodes, I'm sure this will be the only monster episode and the rest will focus on the main storyline.
>>
>>17312490

>>

I'd swear they've been lurking in some of the conspiracy threads on /x/ here, some of the lines have sounded like they were ripped right from the posts.

>>17327889
I don't know if you can do that in real life, but it's probably a bad idea for several different reasons if you can. Don't know if he's paralyzed now, especially after they fixed his face so easily, but the last few times we saw him in the original series, he was in a wheelchair.

>>
>>17328822
He does feel a little flat. I'm hoping they are just showing him as depressed or whatever and hopefully next episode he'll get some info or see something and he'll be back to the old Mulder. Or maybe Duchovny forgot how to act when he has clothes on
>>
Awful season so far. Worse than season six through nine.
>>
>>17327889
He should be dead. Pushed down the stairs in S7
>>
>>17330286
They tried to kill him off before with a sniper too. Smoking Man is h4x.
>>
>>17327851
Is that really such a bad thing? The mytharc has gotten so convoluted and has so many holes that I can't imagine how they could possibly could give a satisfying conclusion. That and the monster of the week episodes are, at least to me, the reason the X-Files was so great to begin with. They were fun, sometimes poignant, sometimes dark and sometimes just outright hilarious. If the rest are similar to the last episode, I'll be happy.
>>
>>17329226
Season 6 still had some good episodes, even though this is where the show started to take a downhill turn. It wasn't as noticeable until they got to season 7, by then it was too late.

Their ballsy move in season 6 to kill off all the old Syndicate should have been when they started to wrap up the series, because the mythology episodes were never as good after that, and the monster of the week episodes just kept getting worse and worse.
>>
The new episodes are bad. It's like the director didn't even try.

>>17331755
>Scully never believes even when there is "proof"

This is where you either have to suspend your disbelief or go into full tinfoil hat crazy convoluted logic. It's not as bad some times as it can be at other times, but in order to make the show work, Scully can't be a total believer right away, it would destroy the dynamics between the two main characters. Not to mention this show has so many twists and turns and outright red herrings as time goes on, it's no wonder these two get skeptical or disillusioned as fuck. Maybe it's aliens, maybe it's a government conspiracy, maybe it's both, maybe there's a third or fourth party involved fucking with everything. What seems obvious at first doesn't stay obvious for very long.

Or, you know, the show does the occasional asspull in order to work, but still keeps things entertaining. Take your pick.
>>
>>17331755
It's a little hard to hold your beliefs up if a childish manwhore pesters you about it all the time

To make it worse this exact guy, with which you made a kid btw, comes up years later and tells you everything you believed in finally is a hoax and rambles about obamacare

Mulder has always been a rather deadpan and serious character, minus some of the intentionally funny moments in the series. That said, in this new series he does feel kind of "off" and less enthusiastic than normal.
>>
Episode 1 - 2/10
Episode 2 - 6/10
Episode 3 - 7/10
>>
>>17332263
He's having a midlife crisis about aliens. This should clear up after the werelizard ep where he gets his mojo back, but it's really hard to say because Carter switched around the episode order shortly before they aired, and I think episode 3 was actually episode 5. So there might be a couple more crappy eps before the real Mulder is back in episode 6.

Would suck if the miniseries doesn't get renewed. I'd like to see the show when everyone has shaken the dust off and gotten back in the zone, both the actors and also writers.
>>
>>17332263

Some random thoughts about the last episode before the new one arrives. SPOILERS, naturally.

(1/2)

>Trashmonster

Pretty neutral on it. It wasn't fantastic but it wasn't terrible either, it was just kinda there, popping up at random and dismembering people. And is that generic happy face at the end really going to help? What if it goes searching for employment at Wal-Mart and becomes the embodiment of evil supermarket chains, ripping limb from limb anyone who dares try to support their local grocer?

The concept of this monster itself seemed to be recycled (pun intended) from the episode Arcadia, which was fairly mediocre, unless you hate HOAs or love the fact that Mulder and Scully went undercover as a couple. Duchovny recently said it was his least favorite monster, calling it the "poo" monster due to the way it looked. Other nicknames include shitmonster, Gumby on steroids, and Mr. Butterworth.

http://www.metatube.com/en/videos/294056/Jimmy-Kimmel-Live-David-Duchovny-Shares-His-Least-Favorite-X-Files-Monster/

(Starts about 3:00)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcadia_%28The_X-Files%29#Effects

Had a nice lol at Mulder correcting the guy about "tulpas", even though I think that's what he called the monster in Arcadia. I guess he's learning after using them internets more often. They seem to have been poking fun at or correcting their own flaws from the original series a lot in this new one.

(2/2)

>Scully and her mom

So now both Scully and Mulder have lost both parents and a sister, how depressing. Mixed feelings about bringing back Scully's mom just to kill her off for some angst, though. I sort of felt the same way when they killed off Mulder's mom.

Even though this plot was better than the other serious episodes they've done so far, it still had some issues that really bugged me. They made Scully seem both naive and selfish with repeatedly wondering why her mother was asking for her estranged son, Charles, instead of herself or her other brother, when it's obvious that a dying person is going to want to make amends with a loved one they've lost contact with. It was nice to see them finally give some background on this character, who we knew almost nothing about before, but it still felt really vague by the end. I was also kind of bothered by the way Margaret came out of her coma so quickly and that her last words were to Mulder (who I thought she was confusing for Charlie, at first) about William III before dying shortly after. Then at the end, Scully's line about hoping she and Mulder didn't treat him "like trash" by giving him up for adoption left a bad taste in my mouth too.

I was never a fan of Alien Baby Jesus, as I called him, but seeing as this is the second or third time he's been mentioned in a significant way in the new series, I bet he'll be making a comeback. Maybe this time they can try to salvage his character. But my theory is that there will be some drama when he returns. It wouldn't surprise me if the Cigarette Smoking Man tries to get a hold of him or use him in some way. Pawning him off to adoptive parents to live a "normal" life when he literally had alien super-soldiers and space cults trying to kidnap or kill him seemed like an incredibly stupid thing to do. CSM could get to him easily if he wanted. But for all my complaints, this episode was way better than the other serious ones.
>>
>>17351966
Good double.

I did love that Mulder & Scully went undercover as a couple, "poopyface" & the fact that David hated it makes me even more enthusiastic, to be honest.

This new one wasn't great though, not as good as Arcadia, for sure.

Easily. Christ Carter, that lazy, useless hack, admitted at the end of season two that he had no story and was just making random shit up with no direction at all as he went along. That is, sadly, all there is to say about the actual story "arc."

>Why are there no genuinely good TV shows about alien mysteries.
That's a good question but then, thinking about it, I can't remember too many instances when it's actually been tried. Maybe we're due!

The SyFy (ugh) channel has had a sudden epiphany and is unexpectedly starting to turn out watchable OC. Maybe they'll make an attempt.
>>
>>17362010
Yeah, except that whole "making random shit up" thing worked really well for the first five seasons or so.

>useless hack

Lazy douche.

No, really. Carter has an ego problem and has made some bad decisions, but dismissing someone as a "hack" is the laziest way in the world to criticize someone.
>>
>>17362037
Whether or not I'm lazy doesn't mean I'm wrong. Carter pretended to have a complex mystery into which he fed a series of clues and characters, only to reveal that they didn't mean anything at all.

I explained that. That's more than just saying he was a hack. That's explaining why. Carter was a fucking hack.

And worked really well? I dunno, I stopped watching about four shows into the third season and a recent attempt to go back and revisit the series found me bored to tears during most episodes. I'm gonna stick with hack, thankyouverymuch.

I just wasn't feeling this new episode. It seemed pretty bad compared to the last one. Mulder's shroom trip was moderately amusing, but the comedy in the third episode was a lot better. I called it being a placebo as soon as he got those pills, though.

Agent McSmartypants and Agent Fanboy were okay, but they've done better "fan characters" than this. Seems they might show up in the last episode, so I hope they aren't so over the top in that one.

Really hoping the Lone Gunman come back for more than that quick little cameo, but I'm doubting it.

All in all, it felt like this episode was a waste of space that could have been used to build up to what we're going to see in the finale. And I'm desperately hoping they don't screw this last one up.
>>
>>17363242
>Mulder's shroom trip was moderately amusing

It wasn't comedy. Most media depicts the shroom trip like that, which is true in a way but it is way deeper than that. TV and movies depict shroom trips as laughing your ass off but not truly understanding the unconditional love.

This is what made the show unwatchable at some point. There was zero progress and the characters constantly forgot what they went through. this is so true and yet it's kind of parallel to real life in some ways. i mean it's a show so it's prone to be more dramatic, but for example my mom and i have experienced paranormal stuff in my childhood home, no shapeshifters but definitely ghosts and stuff. and mom always writes it off afterwards, as do lots of people who don't have an "active" interest in the paranormal. many people have had paranormal experiences but simply don't remember them because there's not really a space in their worldview for these things to have meaning - easier to forget and dismiss sometimes. i think some events are so disturbing to the fragility of everyday reality that we have to forget or alter these memories in order to get along without having a breakdown. a remedy would be a culture which has a space for paranormal aside from insanity or generally things on the horrific spectrum but i'm getting off track.

tldr anyhow yes i thought it was weird too - but the mind is indeed delicate and the need to fit in with collective consciousness will tend to dominate individual events
>>
>>17364021
You make a very good point. I also thought Scully always wrote things off because they conflicted with her religious beliefs as well as her scientific views.

I honestly think it's psyops by Fox. Only way I can explain this heaping pile of shit. That or in the last episode it'll be revealed that Mulder is senile or in a delusional coma and dreaming all this shit. Even then it's probably still psyops to discredit actual events.

The Cigarette Smoking Man's most common answer to this was that killing Mulder would make him a martyr. It's sort of a handwave, but it's also highly likely he has ulterior motives for keeping Mulder alive.

Probably a day or a few days depending on social media hype, so FOX can pretend that they're continuing the show for the fans, when they obviously had greenlit more than one season from the get-go.

This season would have benefited from a few more episodes, no less than 8, but no more than 12, like cable shows. Trying to cram 10+ years of blueballs into 6 episodes left them really uneven.

That said, I like the forced population decrease angle, because it goes to the heart of like every NWO conspiracy ever, and seems like a do-over of Millennium's plot. The series basically ended the same way, with the show's clandestine organization releasing a disease. And making it so that the only way to save the world is by giving them alien DNA? I'm sold on that.

What a legitimately shitty season.

The only halfway decent episode was the lizard man episode. Everything was way too rushed and full of poor dialogue.

It became a "lets see how many conspiracy memes we can make mulder and the blogger say in one scene." Competition.

It gave the paranormal community bad publicity, and was a shitshow of a way to "reboot" the x-files. The whole thing was very embarrassing to watch even in private.
>>
>>17388799
I really enjoyed the stand-alone episodes, however, I found that the last episode felt a bit rushed... I felt like they packed my shit in with a bunch of cameo's and information pertinent to the main story-line... I really enjoy the series, but I felt as though that the stuff I was really interested in took a back-burner to the goofy and less relevant episodes. Essentially, I feel the finale could've been stronger if they didn't throw us into the middle of a fucking appocalyptic scenario, when the last episode was about a fucking tulpa.
I don't know... I just hope that if FOX chooses to green-light another mini-series, they actually focus on answering a few questions, and not leaving us completely blue-balled like Lost.

Or maybe I'm just a petty bitch.

See, my problem isn't with the conspiracies themselves, it's the way they were delivered. I feel like it was a missed opportunity to get the viewers immersed in the potential realities the conspiracies were suggesting.

Just in case you don't already know, there is actually a thing called Agenda 21 which many people believe is a government conspiracy to massively depopulate the planet and establish more controllable cities. This is generally only talked about on fringe sites, but could have been explored in depth if the writers had some balls to explain in detail. The writing just wasn't there, and the viewers will just think its some neat bad guy plot on a tv show when there could be some real aspects of it.

Plus, alien DNA? Why couldn't they just synthesize a new gene to fit their needs? What purpose would the "Alien" gene serve? I'm not necessarily against the alien gene topic, but I feel like there should have been an episode where the gene was explored in more detail than "i have a gene now"

It felt like they originally made a 10-12 episode series, then chopped it in half and tried to play it off like they planned it that way. It was lazy fucked up writing. Carter is a hack.

The mini-season was a 4 to 5/10, just passable enough for what it was however, if they cant do better than that, there's no reason to continue it. There were so many little flaws and absolute sloppy writing decisions and all those little 4th wall breaks really piled up. Was willing to forgive all of it though just because it's X-files but, let's hope they can get it together and give us a real season

Actually it's all linked to the aliens. The kabal made new pact with aliens that instead of invasion, humans themselves would decrease earth's unsustainable population. Those with alien virus would be protected, but would be genetically reengineered to become aliens themselves and become the part of new alien society on earth thus, surviving fate of the rest of humanity.

As someone who has actually used Accutane, this is a massively bad idea. The side effects just aren't worth it. No, I didn't get depressed or suicidal like some people apparently did, but still not worth it.

Chris Carter is just being a massive fucking troll at this point. A friend who watched the series with me said he figured they really only needed two episodes to tell a story to set up for a third movie and the rest was just padding. At this point, I'm inclined to agree with him.

So, either we'll be getting that third movie, or perhaps season 11, but I really don't want this to drag on too much longer. This new season was spotty at best, anyway. And they cut it short right when it was starting to get interesting again.

>>
>>17391088
>they really only needed two episodes to tell a story to set up for a third movie and the rest was just padding.

Which is exactly how the original series went - a few myth-arc stories a season with the rest being padding.

Except some of the best episodes were the padding, and the myth-arc when looked over as a whole (again, like the new mini-season), is rather spotty and incoherent.
>>
>>17390119
The first episode of the mini-season stated that all of that was faked. It was an elaborate stage play to get Mulder and Scully to believe and spread misinformation.

Basically, they took a massive shit on all of it.
>>
>>17391362
>stated
>something that mulder just thought
>>
>>17391369
And confirmed by CGM. Are you watching the show?
>>
>>17391375
You mean the guy who has been bullshitting everyone in various ways througout the series? So reliable!
>>
>>17391382
So what are you taking as reliable in this series? Something they show on the screen? That's been repeatedly shown to not be reliable. Scully and Muler's experiences? You apparently shit on that in your first response.

If you wish to deny what the most recent episodes are telling you, then there's no reason to believe ANYTHING they showed was true in the show EVER.

>inb4 it was all Scully's dream
>>
>>17391395
There are parts shown involving all of those that are not witnessed by Scully or Mulder. Why shouldn't those be taken as reliable?

>>17391401
Why should they? Give an example and explain why it's reliable and not an elaborate setup to fake people into believing the lie.

This is why it's a massive shit on the canon. There is now literally nothing in the show that can't just be thrown away with "we staged that." The black oil is just as much canon as the ginger vampire.
>>
>>17391439
>black oil and the cavemen
>takes place long before civilization
>clearly the black oil and the spawns are real

>the rebels burning all the gubmint people when they were expecting the greys

None of these involve Mulder or Scully.
>>
>>17391456
>black oil and the cavemen
Never happened. What YOU watched was a mental reenactment from Mulder's mind after becoming convinced of the lie. The black oil was a product of researching the alien DNA found after the crash. The research group made up the ancient history part.

>the rebels burning all the gubmint people when they were expecting the greys
False flag attack to sell the idea of aliens among us.
>>
>>17391469
By that logic nothing in the series ever happened and nobody has any right to complain about "shitting on all of it".
>>
>>17363749

That's because he was the only one of the three that looked relatively normal.
>>
>>17391479
>By that logic nothing in the series ever happened

That is exactly why it is shitting on all of it. The logic they used in the mini-season destroyed the X-Files canon.

But let's talk it out from your view. Say CGM was lying, and the myth-arc is still in place. The original plan was to create alien-human hybrids in order to create a slave race for the coming invasion. None of what happened in the mini-season fits that. Not the "it was all fake" lie, not the illness, not anything.

My whole point is the main plots between the original and this mini are incompatible.
>>
>>17391504
>conspirators plan on scully using her alien dna to cure people
>everyone in the world has alien dna
>cue gene expression
>everyone in the world does whatever the aliens or conspirators intended for them

Maybe they become hybrids. Maybe they become genetically programmed to obey the greys. Who the fuck knows.

It ties in just fine.
>mulder thinks he knows something
>gets completely shat on
>then he learns another thing
>gets completely shat on
>>
>>17391530
>Maybe they become hybrids. Maybe they become genetically programmed to obey the greys. Who the fuck knows.

We know because the mytharc explained what the Syndicate and the aliens and the rebels were trying to do. None of their objectives match what you wrote.

>mulder thinks he knows something
>gets completely shat on
>then he learns another thing
>gets completely shat on

So now you AGREE that CGM in the mini-season was telling the truth? Or are you a different anon than >>17391382?

What I find really funny is this is exactly what they did with Season 4 - Mulder became convinced all the alien shit was faked.
>>
>>17361976

muh diversity. carter is trying to stave off the sjws
>>
>>17391550
>So now you AGREE that CGM in the mini-season was telling the truth?

Why? We are talking about what Mulder knows. Mulder "knows" what he is shown and told.

There is a difference between what the viewer knows and what Mulder knows.

I was on the film crew about a few years back. We were getting ready to get started on the opening scenes and Carter was really hyped and shit.

About ten minutes in carter stopped us and said he needed a minute. There were abour two guys in the corner that he went to talk to, both of them didn't really have any facial expressions and one was holding a large manila envelope.

After about an hour and a half carter finally came back and was visibly distressed. He redistributed the script and said "alright lets go back to where we started" except it wasn't. None of the actors or actresses seemed to know what their lines were either and looked very confused.

After a while of Carter getting frustrated he just sent everyone home and said he'd call them back in about a month. My company was never called back but obviously the season still happened.

I really think carters original script was fucked with.
>>
>>17391359
I agree with you. "Padding" just doesn't work in a miniseries.

>>17391375
Why do you keep calling him "CGM"? It's CSM.

And at this point either of you could be right. But unfortunately it does seem more like they fucked with the canon.

Yep, I hope the new season of Twin Peaks isn't as much of a shit show as this was.

A couple of the episodes were okay but lackluster overall and I am not pleased about them basically throwing 9 seasons worth of story into the trash.

It pretty much killed any excitement I had for old favorites getting brought back especially after finding out that the new Star Trek reboot is just a rehash of TOS (Why revisit a period with plenty of info already instead of showing the story post DS9 or between Enterprise and TOS?) and that the new Stargate reboot disregards everything that happened after the first film especially since there are already two movies(resurrection and extinction) already written and ready to go. I bet SyFy ruins Ringworld too.
>>
>>17393789
Don't worry, I'm hearing much better things about the Twin Peaks revival.

>inb4 it was all Scully's dream

Scully's eyes snap open suddenly in consciousness. She realizes her face is on her keyboard and she's been asleep for 6 hours. Wiping the drool from her cheek, she reopens the word document she has been working on these past few weeks. She continues typing, "Agent Diana Leski soon finds Agent Ranerdt Muldradt on the crowded bridge. He is sick and in need of care. She tells the eager, young Agent Milner that the only way to save Muldradt is through stem cells. She breathlessly confesses that they have a child together but they do not know where he is. Suddenly, a triangle craft appears overhead. It shines its sinister green beam down at Diana. She stares back in terror. The End." Dana then saves the word document and emails it to her publisher. Pouring a glass of bourbon, she gives a thumbs up sign to a framed photo on her desk. The photo is an old one of the dearly departed Jose Chung giving a thumbs up. Dana whispers to no one in particular, "We did it." And in 8 months, From Outer Space 2: Electric Boogaloo soon hits the shelves. A promise finally fulfilled. *X-Files whistle* *Executive Producer Chris Carter*
