In Arthurian legend the survivors of Atlantis travelled to Cornwall and from there they built a vast city beneath the waves off the Cornish coast.

This city is where Arthur was laid to rest and fishermen sometimes tell stories of seeing lights from the tallest towers of the city beaming up to the surface.

They lived at peace with the spirits of the land until their king found a stone from a meteorite bearing supernatural properties called the oricalchos.
It's incredible energy efficiency is what allowed atlantis to become technologically advanced and create a high standard of living for the people, but they also fell away from their co-existence with the earth spirits and become extremely hedonistic, ignorant, angry, and miserable, like we all are now.
The king sacrificed the people of atlantis to space dragon god that first sent them the oricalchos. It's name is leviathan.
The survivors called upon the aid of the earth spirits that their ancestors lived aside, and drove leviathan back at great cost. Their civilization was wiped out and humanity developed on its own without the aid of oricalchos.
However, that king has lived the entire time, rendered immortal by a transfusion with the nigh-infinite energy of the oricalchos, and has watched the world for thousands of years, watching humanity repeat the same mistakes, and soon he will try to finish the job and sacrifice all of humanity to the space dragon god leviathan.
