Fays are etheric beings, and iron disrupts etheric patterns. Silver is even better. Think of acid and you sort of get the idea.
But they are not physical, and there would be no trophy to bring back. When you see them, you are seeing a sort of projection taken from your memory. In their realm they look like egg-shaped balls with multiple shifting colors.
Not to mention that if you manage to kill a fay and other ones see it, you would be in a world of hurt.

But like I said before, what you see is not what they are. What you get from the so called "glamour", their natural projection ability, is not how they really look.
