We have been in a corrupt system for centuries now, so we are looking for a change. A worldwide cataclysm, war or something similar would be the catalyst for that change.
There are of course more peaceful and less apocolyptic ways to change our society, but humans dont automatically think of peaceful solutions because we are a violent race, afterall.
