My guess is that the Russians were doing some stupid shit I.E. testing nuclear weapons in the area, figuring nobody is stupid enough to be hiking there in the winter.

Disorientation occurs, people run down a mountain hill, concussive force happens to really fuck people up because that's what it does and the elements/animals account for the rest of the damage.

People suffering extreme cold and hypothermia can, in the last stages before death mistakenly feel extremely warm as their body shuts down.

People trapped in freezers and in cold conditions often strip themselves naked just before death.
