Numbers are great troves of information. As symbols. The arabic number system has been used to create symbols for a long time. I am a fan of the riddle of the sphinx.

2 legs in the afternoon
and 3 legs at night.

But digging into the numbers as symbols we have 4 (earthy natural) first. Then two (i don't know this one), then three (a number relating to religion and philosophy, a number being representative of a god-head)

So we are base, and then something, and then religious throughout our intellectual pursuits.
