So how much of an effect did the X-Files have on the paranormal community in general? I know it introduced the public to a lot of pretty basic theories and whatnot, but how did it affect actual conspiracy theorists and larger theories? What theories portrayed did they screw up and how? Has Gillian Anderson aged well?

IIRC, barely at all. All that really happened is that their communities became larger due to increased awareness of subject matter.
