There are times in your life when things just go strange. They exist in that grey, fuzzy area where you go sometimes, and something seems real, but you're able to explain it away. Only sometimes you're not.

Growing up, I'd been a normal, average, every day kid. I played in the dirt at recess, thought girls were gross (except for her, you know the one), and played ball every summer. But that all changed when I got to Junior High.

From day one I was wearing a target on my back. I don't know what it was, maybe because I was tall, lanky and could disappear if I turned sideways, but it seemed like everyone was out to get me. It started with name calling, and escalated into instances of minor, passing violence that could be brushed off as an accident, like getting shoulder checked into walls or lockers, clocked in the back of a head with an instrument case as I was getting off the bus, the kind of stuff kids do when they just really don't like someone. It never got to daily beatings, but they really ground me down until I was pulp.

I admit it, I cried most days and only came out of my room for dinner. Even when I told my parents what was going on, my dad would say I had to stick up for myself. When I brought it to administration, they'd punish the trouble maker, but then an entirely new wave of folks would start picking on me. This happened all through Junior High, up until my last year. The year I had the dream.

I knew I was at school, even if I couldn't see anything. Someone was moving after me and I could barely breathe. After stumbling forever, I was grabbed and forced to my knees, sobbing the whole while. I felt cold metal press up against the back of my head and I screamed.

And then I woke up. Holding myself, visibly shaking and screaming. My mother rushed in and tried to calm me down, but I was inconsolable. I refused to listen, I even refused to go to school, even when she threatened me. She didn't understand that I felt like I was going to die if I went to school.

But eventually she relented. Said we were going to have a talk when she got home. I stayed in and did some homework, slept a little more once I felt safe, and did what I could to pass the time.

But then she came home in the middle of the day. Wrapped her arms around me and started crying. I asked her what was wrong, and she told me there'd been a terrible accident.

One had a guy who was in a haunted hotel and there was banging on his door. He thought the ghosts were trying to get in. Answer was that the ghosts were replaying the event of the hotel burning down and were in the room with him.

Another had a guy wake up covered in blood and with his family dead. He goes to take a shower and hears someone open the door. Answer was that he killed his family and someone just found out.
