I found the oddest stuff going through those, I don't know if anyone knows what i'm talking about though. Usually those searches just wielded city streets.
I once found what looked like a cat daycare, though. You couldn't see the left wall, where I assumed the door was, and it was a big room filled with various cat toys and beds (and of course cats.) I had that tab open for days because it was just so odd, and I liked seeing the cats.
What was odd, though, was that I never saw anybody in the room. Actually I rarely ever saw signs of people. At night the lights would be dimmed and the cats would be gone, but nobody would ever come into round up the cats. They would just slowly disappear off the screen. They'd go off camera towards the left of the room, and then not reappear. Eventually there'd be like three cats left in the room, and at one point they'd all look to the left like somebody had food, and walk off the screen. Then the lights would shut off, and the next morning they'd all be back in the room. A few cats would be missing, though, and new ones would have appeared, which is why I assumed it was some sort of day care place where people dropped their pets when they vacationed or what ever. It was still odd though. I cant help but wonder why nobody ever came to add new toys, or pet the cats, or anything like that. It was like they purposely avoided the camera, which I assumed was there in case the cats ever fought or something and the owners wanted to see what happened.

Someone should point out that looking through IP cams, even unprotected, is almost certainly breaking at least 1 law. Just because someone isn't smart enough to password protect the camera doesn't give you the right to watch.

It's also really creepy, a lot of these are baby cameras. Do you really want the NSA to know you watch stranger's babies online? And that you find these addresses on a site that's mostly porn?

Reset leaves the password the same, the parents just have to go turn it back on when they notice the screen is blank.

Rebooting does the same thing.

If I put a password on it, the parent might not be able to log onto the screen to even see the seizure. But i do see your point lol

Accessing Unsecured IP Cameras!
If you enjoy my videos, you're probably asking yourself, as well as asking me in the comments or messages how this is done, where can you find the cameras, and why do the cameras have speakers and microphones.

I'm going to teach you how to do it in a few simple steps so you can enjoy having fun like I do.
Finding the cameras.
This is the first, and most important step in the process. How to find these IP cameras.
You will need to goto this website.


(note:the website will look different, this is an older image)


In the search bar at the top of the page, type in "Netwave IP Camera" without the quotations. You will then be brought to a results page with about 10-15 camera links from various countries. You will have to create an account if you want to be able to search the cameras by country (and for each country, you can also search it by city..for example if you want to find cameras in Canton, OH, you would search "Netwave IP Camera Country:US City:Canton")


Accessing the cameras

The next step is pretty simple in and of itself, you click the links! Some of them will just bring you to an odd page with details about the link, those are no good and you'll need to go back a page and try another camera. The ones that don't do that will open up a new tab, or page, depending on how you have your browser set up, and then a login box will pop up asking for a username, and a password. (keep in mind, some cameras may be disconnected, and the new tab or window will bring you to a "page not found" screen, which you'll just have to close out and move on)


Just like in the picture, all you need to do is type in admin for the username field and leave the password blank. Some of them will bring the pop up box back up meaning the info is wrong, but some will bring you to a page that will let you access the cameras.

That guy at the end was a pretty cool guy. I think It's horrifying how some people unknowingly put IP cams in their house. I remember about a year ago I got one that was set in a bird cage. I had a lot of fun turning the camera around in the middle of the night, the bird did not.

Only bad thing about this is that everyone will find out about it soon enough, especially since we get a lot of tumblr and reddit users on /x/ especially. This will be a craze and there will be less and less cameras eventually, people getting in trouble with the law too, probably. If you don't get a save box popping up, then you can't record those unless you use a screen recorder software like xsplit. The ones that work best to record are the ones that let you choose between activex mode (needed for the mic/speaker to work) server push and mobile mode.

What I don't get is how these are set up to be vulnerable. Do the instructions with these things say to just open port 80 in your router and forward it to the camera or something?

My cameras are read by the motion daemon and then presented on a web server secured with SSL username/password, so I don't really get what people are doing to make them vulnerable like this.

(And that's assuming they even realized they were being watched by a stranger) And if they even wanted to, unless they knew who exactly was watching them (Angry ex, disgruntled employee ect.), I doubt any law enforcement would waste man power looking for someone anonymous and charging them with something so petty when they most likely live states, even countries away (unless you witnessed something crazy done by someone thats wealthy/famous).

I think i was one of the first to start fucking around with these cameras after the trendnet security fail was starting to be known back in january and those cameras was starting to get taken down.

I saw a foscam at a shop in town and saw the audio in/out and my first thought was "trolling potential" so i went home and ordered one, port scanned it, then off to shodan.

Finally found one that let me in. What shitty surveillance, can't even see anything on half of them. There's cobwebs covering some cameras.

It reminds me of the early days of the internet, with security holes everywhere. It's insane how with a simple camera, you could be doing so much.

Just don't forget the basic rule of hacking: "leave no trace".

I found many cameras where the log wasn't cleared, and anyone could see the different IPs connecting to it. Just change some property that will cause a reboot, and the log will be cleared, at least cleared enough that only an experienced computer forensic could pull something from it.

Also, leaving backdoors is nice: I found many cameras with additional admin accounts, added at the bottom of the list, with "<space><space><space>" as the name, and no password, thus hiding it from the list despite existing. Nice strategy there.
