So I have only been watching anime for a like 2.5 years now so I have just been coasting off of all the mainstream stuff that is always mentioned in these kind of threads; Eveangelion, Code Geass, Bebop, FMA, Attack on Titan, Bleach, Naruto, Steins;Gate, Hellsing Ultimate etc etc
But now that I have finished those I don't really know anymore, so does anyone know really good animes that would NOT have been mentioned in top anime / top x genre lists since that's where most of my suggestions came from.
Heres MAL, been slacking on updating it lately but gives you an idea if you care to look; http://myanimelist.net/profile/ZeroCool395
Cute girls doing cute things.
Detroit metal city
cromartie high school
Go watch ghost in the shell stand alone complex
Did you watch yuru yuri its one of the better slice of life shows nichijou is good too
>Go watch ghost in the shell stand alone complex
is that a good starting point for someone that has never seen ANY Ghost in the Shell stuff?
Noticed it before but it had so many different entries was confused where to begin.
Also never seen / heard of Yuru Yuri, the only slice of life I have ever enjoyed was WataMote just due to the cringe factor... not really my jam besides that one in particular.
Yuru yuri is the thing in the op and nichijou is really over the top and actually funny not just cute girls doing cute things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YPRGVIX5TM
>is that a good starting point for someone that has never seen ANY Ghost in the Shell stuff?
I think its the best starting point personally
You can watch the movie then SAC but its not necessary to understand it
Movie is good to I just like the show more
Need help finding that
>back of the knee maybe
doomguy comic, can't seem to find it anywhere.
I like lots of stuff, Horror, Psychological, Superpowers, Thriller / Mystery, Ecchi..
Mostly I just don't like Mechas, Slice of Life, Romance.. basically anything super slow lol.
Gona head to sleep now though will check back on this tmrw anons!
Chaos;Head, Psycho Pass, Death Note, No Game No Life, Zankyou no Terror, Mirai Nikki, Another, Shiki, School-Live!(Do not be confused by looking at the name. School-Live is a very apocalyptic, psychological anime), Serial Experiments Lain, Elfen Lied, Chaos;Child
High School of The Dead(Horror/Ecchi/Harem), Corpse Party: Tortured Souls, Corpse Party: Missing Footage, Zekkyou Gakkyuu, Ajin,
Hunter x Hunter 2011, The Seven Deadly Sins, Charlotte, Ergo Proxy, Deadman Wonderland, Kekkaishi, When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace
Hope this helps. bye
The Vision of Escaflowne
my favorite show of all time, just happened to fall right in the middle of the whole cowboy bebop/evangelion/etc age and for whatever reason isn't often talked about.
it sort of tries to be every genre all at once and it somehow remains radical despite that
>so you want a down to earth show that's completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots
it's shonen its shoujo it's fantasy it's scifi it's romance it's comedy it's got angels and dragons and airships and prophecy and catgirls and gigantic fucking noses and and and
By far the most "unique" ecchi and my personal favorite is Midori Days
Kino no Tabi
Serial Experiments Lain
Watch some fucking movies.
Sword of the Stranger
Jinroh: The Wolf Brigade
Ghost in the Shell
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Highlander: Search for Vengeance
Galaxy Express 999
The Professional: Golgo 13
You could even watch Interstella: 5555
Then theres some other stuff like Blue Submarine No. 6, Fucking JoJo is pretty damn mainstream but it's great.
Oh boy do i have a list of obscure but good anime for you. Most of these will be mid-late 90s titles though
Mezzo DSA (Mezzo forte is the prequel, but it's porn)
Gungrave (i didn't like the second half personally, but it's good.)
Mardock Scramble (three movies)
Great Teacher Onizuka
DearS (Cutesy futuristic moeblob anime, but pretty good)
Birdt the Mighty Decode (the newer series will probably interest you more)
Denpa Teki na Kanojo (One of the top anime's ever created imho)
Dominion Tank Police
The Guyver (The classic OVAs are the best imo)
Kara no Kyoukai (Another contender for greatest anime ever. split into 7 movies.)
Kino no Tabi (aka Kino's Journey)
Kurau: Phantom Memory
Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne
Shadow Skill (Probably my favorite high action martial arts anime)
True Tears (A good Slice of Life drama)
White Album 2 (same as above)
Most of these you can find Dubbed if that's your thing.
Just watched the 1995 movie, I don't even know what really happened at the end there.. did sh e merge with the Puppet Master?
Didn't really hook me the way I hoped it would and want me want to watch the anime.
>did sh emerge with the Puppet Master?
iirc yes its been years since ive seen it though
I found the show more engaging and the characters acted more human
I think the show takes place before the movie anyway
Redline trailer because movies are cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2H_FsmxWzc
Agreed, watch the original GITS movie before moving into SAC, or much of it will seem irrelevant.
Wacky comedic adventure - 宇宙海賊ミトの大冒険 [Uchū Kaizoku Mito no Daibōken] (Space Pirate Mito) lots of WTF?
Romantic drama - 彼氏彼女の事情 [Kareshi Kanojo no Jijō] (His and Her Circumstances) lots of D'AWWW
Hentai - 淫獣学園 LaBlue Girl [Injū Gakuen La Blue Girl] (Lewd Beast Academy: La Blue Girl) lots of tentacle grape
Police comedy/drama - 逮捕しちゃうぞ [Taiho Shichauzo] (You're Under Arrest) lots of slice-of-life
and a random surreal dystopian crime drama (movie) - デッド リーブス [Deddo Rībusu] (Dead Leaves) what is this I don't even...
These are rather old-school, and certainly won't appear on the "mainstream" viewlists :p
Have fun with 'em.
OP here, is there any way I can archive / save this thread besides just coming screenshoting it?
Don't want to lose all these good suggestions :u
It's in the top-left corner of any application whose target audience includes people who can dress themselves unassisted.
perhaps you can point it out to me then?
What the fuck does that even mean? Do you mean late night UHF anime? Old anime? Something to do with how popular with western audiences that don't really matter in the first place?
Akame ga kill is GOAT.
Dubbed isn't finished yet, so I'd wait a few weeks until Adult Swim can finish and watch the others in this thread until then.
>Akame ga kill is GOAT.
Yep. This is /wsr/, alright.
>Akame ga kill is GOAT.
>Dubbed isn't finished yet, so I'd wait a few weeks
I don't want to believe this is real y-you are just pretending right anon?
The increasing number correlates to both age and usefulness.
is that the one based on the japanese bored game similar too chess? If so, figured I wouldn't get it since I don't know the game, if not.... go on
not that anon you are thinking of akagi wich is about mahjong and by the same guy
Kaiji is about gambling in general and has different games the rules are explained or obvious no prior knowledge needed
Its also fucking great
So , not OP but I'm also always looking for god tier anime.
My absolute favorite has probably been Beck:MCS, I've yet to find anything that has that sort of feeling to it. Do you have any suggestions off f that?
I've also watched from that list:
Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, FMA, Champloo, Black Lagoon, Fate/Stay Night, Gunslinger Girl, GTO, Berserk(read, maybe I should watch too), Paranoia Agent, Mushishi, Claymore (my absolute second favorite), GiTS, Xamdo (probably my 3rd from that list)
No don't, it's an insufferably preachy shitfest that presents psych 101 stuff like the Prisoner's Dilemma and Milgram as some kind of stunning revelation about human nature, and then shits the bed by having everyone defy said human nature and be nice and cooperative just because the gary-stu MC tells them to.
Actually no. Many of them have both. I hate to sound like a shill, but they even have One-Punch Man and Attack on Titan which don't have dubs.
Only series I've found so far with a dub only is Zatch Bell.
What about shinsekai yori? A solid Godtier that, for some reason, nobody talks about.
Kekkai sensen is other option that, to me, isn't that mainstream, but I wouldn't put it in the god tier list.
Holy shit how has no one mentioned Anidb yet? That site is useful as fuck, has most anime even obscure shit because of all the animu nerds on it, and it has a good system for sorting by rating (and the community is pretty good at rating harshly but fairly), and even by useful keywords, themselves ranked by how well they apply.
It's literally up right now, I downloaded almost everything suggested in this thread (over 300GB) over the last 2 days.
Googling nyaa will even get you there
Duckduckgo even has a bang for it now! (This is awesome!)
