My laptop powers up, but the screen is black.
I dont really surf /g/ and I am sorry if i am using this board for the wrong purpose. but My Toshiba Satellite c55 powers up. all the lights on the keyboard come on but i have to use a external monitor with a HDMI cable to actually use it. I wonder if i can fix this or i need to take it somewhere. I do realize now Toshiba is pretty shitty. I've only had this computer for 9 months and shit is already starting to fall apart. Hell, the left computer hinge screw some how came loose and now the back of the screen wont stay on. but i just need help on the screen going black.
thank you guys,

Get a really ducking bright torch, and shine it at the screen.
Picture shows up: you need a new inverter
No picture: you need a new screen, screen ribbon, graphics card or motherboard.
This has happened to me multiple times. I've used the "Reflowing" a motherboard method and it always works. Although Keep in mind you have to make sure your laptop isn't getting too hot otherwise the screen will turn black and you will need to restart the process.
